We went to Beamish the other day and it seemed very safe but lots not open although tickets last a year so can go multiple times. Also pp mentioned Durham Uni I'm doing a part time post grad there although obviously not in student digs as I'm an ancient mother of 2. The college accomodation thing is to try and contain any immediate outbreaks quickly apparently that has come from advice from other units who have started earlier.

BikeTyson · 28/09/2020 16:30

I’m really confused by Matt Hancock’s announcement today, is it just making something illegal that was just an advisory restriction before?

alltheleavesarebrownnn · 28/09/2020 16:52

So can we still socialise with someone in our bubble ?
I live alone can I still meet my friend who also lives alone ?

RedCatBlueCat · 28/09/2020 16:56

I dont know about bubbles alltheleavesarebrownnn because I dont pay much attention to them, but yes, BikeTyson I agree he is just formalising the current rule - IMO possibly in anticipation of the Teesside set of councils being incorporated into your lock down, and they are adamant that it is mainly house to house transmission causing the spread in Teesside.

Bearfrills · 28/09/2020 16:57

I can't work out the detail of the restrictions, I'm going to wait for the more detailed story once the "BREAKING NEWS" frenzy calms down.

Had a rubbish day so this announcement is the crap icing on the shitcake that has been Monday! DH muttered the words I needed to hear "I'll put the kids to bed tonight, you order us a take away and choose something on Netflix while I do". I married him for a reason Grin

PennyDreadfuI · 28/09/2020 17:00

Hello all! Hope everyone's Monday is going as well as expected, given it's a Monday, and in lockdown and all.

@BikeTyson yep, I think that's about the size of it. He's not said whether it includes informal childcare yet though, typical clear as mud bollocks.

@alltheleavesarebrownnn I think that's still ok but who knows for sure? Like I say, clear as mud. As usual.

I must be thick. Doesn't going to the pub or restaurant involve several households "socialising" in a way, even if they are distanced, and even if the households don't know each other?

BikeTyson · 28/09/2020 17:09

Thanks RedCatBlueCat and PennyDreadful I saw the Breaking News and thought oh crap what now, so it’s a bit of a relief it’s not anything different from what I already thought the rules were!

BikeTyson · 28/09/2020 17:13

@NotQuiteUsual must be a really hard time to move!

We’ve been enjoying outdoor or mostly outdoor places, Northumberland Zoo, Hall Hill Farm, Druridge Bay Country Park, Bolam Lake, Plessey Woods - they’re all a bit less enticing when it’s cold and raining but outdoors is pretty safe.

The National Trust places (Gibside, Cragside, Wallington) still don’t seem to have opened their playgrounds (as of a couple of weeks ago anyway, I’m really annoyed with them about it!) but we’ve had a few trips to them too.

PennyDreadfuI · 28/09/2020 17:21

Newcastle council has just declared a major incident because our infections are at 246 per 100,000. Has anywhere else that's on local lockdown declared a major incident, does anyone know?

@TheSilveryPussycat you'd think, wouldn't you? I do worry about all the staff who are likely to lose their income if a tighter lockdown is announced, though. There is no easy solution to any of this, is there. If only.

BikeTyson · 28/09/2020 17:24

@PennyDreadful North Yorkshire did a few weeks ago I believe, because of a surge in cases in Harrogate. But I don’t think their levels are anywhere near Newcastle.

PennyDreadfuI · 28/09/2020 17:29

@BikeTyson it's gone through the roof here in a matter of a couple of weeks hasn't it. I really, really hope the new restrictions are over by Christmas. The idea of it being illegal to meet with family at Christmas is just awful.

OP posts:
Dementedswan · 28/09/2020 17:33

I think parts of Northumberland have declared a major incident too. We are at 138 cases per 100,000. 7 days ago we were at 36 ish.

Harrykanesrightsock · 28/09/2020 17:38

Has anyone got a link to the map posted on the first thread showing numbers by postcode/area. I have lost it and can’t find the original thread for some reason on my phone.

BikeTyson · 28/09/2020 17:40

@PennyDreadfuI yes it’s been very fast, it feels like only a few weeks ago I was looking at the rates and they were less than 1 per 100,000.

Dementedswan · 28/09/2020 17:43

Seems like theres no end to this, I must admit I've been pretty upbeat through the majority of this, but now the thought of not seeing anyone other than Dh or the kids is depressing and I just want to go to bed and stay there. I dont work through disability so life was restricted anyway for me. Now I cant have a conversation with another person for god knows how long Sad I'm deaf so dont even get the pleasure of passing them time of day with shop staff now.

RedCatBlueCat · 28/09/2020 17:51

The Arcgis one @Harrykanesrightsock

Hello bonnie lasses.
I’m trying desperately hard to look for the positives in this shitstorm. I just don’t know what to believe any more. I’ve read loads of contradictory reports on the internet and I’m baffled.

Everyone and their dog is getting tested now whereas back in the start only hospital admissions were getting a test so what does that mean? More tests equals more positive cases being found?

I just wish there was a balanced debate about what’s going on instead of the doom and gloom media headlines. It seems we are being fed what the government wants us to hear. If anyone is interested Dr Malcolm Kendrick has some interesting posts if you want to google but tbh my head is mashed by it all.

PennyDreadfuI · 28/09/2020 18:36

Childcare and bubbles are unaffected. Phew!

Hope everyone's ok after today's strange turn!! It doesn't make much difference for us as we weren't going to pubs and restaurants with other households (or at all as our household!) but it has caused some confusion and like a PP said, I'll have a proper read tomorrow when the media storm calms down. Thanks @PennyDreadfuI for clarifying that the informal childcare rule is still in place Smile.

Picked DP up from hospital after his op and thankfully all went to plan (although I don't know if I'll cope having him at home while I'm wfh for six weeks Grin), but then had to deal with an incident at work despite logging off an hour before said incident occurred and DS having a meltdown about bath time. He's recently moved rooms at nursery and has definitely regressed with his behaviour and he looks so nervous all of the time, and while I realise it's a big change moving from nursery to 'pre-school' it still feels like we're back to square one with him as he's had a number of late development concerns and challenges in the past.

Having said that tomorrow is a new day and we'll just take it one day at a time as we have done in the past! And I feel much better having written all of that down!

Flowers for you Demented. I gave up my job in June as I have osteoarthritis and am in constant pain with limited ability. Not the same as yourself, but I get the sentiment. I was pretty upbeat at the start. Even though DM had just been diagnosed with bowel cancer and ended up in ICU right after lockdown. Didn't see her for 2 weeks. We just got the all clear on Friday after her latest scan, but then she can't exactly go out an celebrate. She feels its safer just staying in. But it now feels like forever.

Much love and hugs to you all. Sorry, my brain won't retain much detail anymore but I know a lot of you are really struggling for different reasons. I just thank god for this thread. Some common ground and support within the madness means a lot.

Northumberlandlass · 28/09/2020 18:49

Haven’t jumped on before, I live in the Tyne Valley & was relieved that we can still see my Dad (he’s in our bubble)!

I have an 85yr old neighbour & while we don’t see a lot of her, I do call in to check on her & she comes to us if she needs anything. She has no family near by at all!

juneybean · 28/09/2020 18:53

As another poster said these new restrictions is what I thought was in place anyways!
