I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

@MoaningMurlock

The pub closing thing is because people are less likely to go out if they know it's over by 10. And most of the youth don't go out till 10 anyway.

Have you met British people? 😂

What will happen is the pubs will open earlier, and people will go earlier.

Then go round their mates houses when the pubs shut at 10 to carry on the party.

I don't know how old you are but I remember the days when pubs shut at 10.30 anyway during the week and generally it meant we only spent about an hour or so in the pub. It may be different nowadays but it may not.

I wish they’d shut the bloody pubs.
Do you work in a pub people are losing their jobs and Homes stupid statement
Janaih · 21/09/2020 18:12

It is indeed @Ihatemyseleffordoingthis but I fear more chaos would be heaped upon us. We really are up shit creek.

bbc news just now predict curfews like that makes a diffference

Ratbum · 21/09/2020 18:15

Prediction-wise, I suspect it will be laying the groundwork for more restrictions backed by enforcement measures.

What I'd LIKE to hear, however, is Boris making a point about parent behaviour around schools. Refusing to distance or hanging around in groups for a chat near the gate is potentially undermining the work the schools are putting in to keep staff and pupils safe.

Melbourne did curfews. Depends what time they are set at. But it probably helped there.
ineedaholidaynow · 21/09/2020 18:17

Curfews seem to have worked in other countries, but many countries don't seem to have the drinking culture we do. So they won't go to a pub earlier to get drunk or drink with mates at home to make up for earlier closing time. Pity some members of our society can't be more civilised

Howslifenow · 21/09/2020 18:18

I don't know how other countries are able to get virus under control. South Korea just did. Same Australia. Our government comes up with half baked measures making us go for the restrictions my h longer.

MaxNormal · 21/09/2020 18:18

Can't blame him who would wanna do this job

He did. Not such fun after all, too much like hard work for the lazy shit.

MarshaBradyo · 21/09/2020 18:18

Ratbum our school has said masks at gates, no hanging around and chatting. Makes sense.

Although it was ironic after this that two parents were standing close by chatting about the school not doing enough.

That's not very good for the people who work in them.

I wish people wouldn't just think about themselves.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/09/2020 18:23

@Whatwouldscullydo

I dont see the point in the curfew tbh.

Pubs used to shut at 11 and 10.30 on a sunday.

Its just a cop out to avoid paying the businesses more furlough cos they can stay open.

The preloading at home and going out til close will just shift back to how it used to be. As will the "back to mine " afterwards.

Agree that it's a cop out as there is no furlough money left.

The government are out of workable solutions and they know it! So they will come up with any old shite to make it look like they are doing 'something' but sadly that something just won't be enough

Well me and friends all prefer to go out early, go home early and we do meet up for drinks at each others houses but in a very civilised manner. In normal times.

I do and will stick to the rules.

SunbathingDragon · 21/09/2020 18:27

I think it will be about limiting indoor contact wherever possible and minimising social interactions.

I hope it keep schools (as safely as they can be) open and means that we can have a slightly bigger gathering of friends and family over Christmas.

Agree. This is what my student DC are already doing.

They're not giving their real names and phone numbers for track and trace purposes, either. They have spent several months locked up and I can't see many of them giving up their freedom again in a hurry - especially now they know how shit it is not to have it. I don't think they fancy a £10K fine for non-compliance, either.

emmcan · 21/09/2020 18:36

Johnson won't last much beyond the new year.

frozendaisy · 21/09/2020 18:36

@swabthenose

They won’t close schools until they’re forced to admit that with everything else closed it clearly is still transmitting in schools. Even then they’ll probably say it’s mostly the teachers and parents chatting on the school run!
Schools would be closed due to staff shortages because of self-isolating before this happens.

Now I work in the hospitality industry and I disagree with closing pubs as many are safe and not to pension the job losses etc .
But I disagree that so many pubs that are packed in with a pad & pen to write your name or not . People sat together from different household no distancing etc . Queuing at the bar .
I went in a pub once since they reopened and it was like that so never went back .
I've been in a few pub restaurants and all completely different / distancing etc .
So it can be done safely and if it can't you close.

Not all grandparents are elderly and frail.
Many are of working age and are at greater risk in their work places, than looking after their own grandchild.

Aragog · 21/09/2020 18:40

That link says that weddings can still go ahead with numbers ranging from 20-30 depending on your location.

MintyMabel · 21/09/2020 18:40

If they don’t close pubs and restaurants, they are just fooling us in to thinking they are doing something

Lemons1571 · 21/09/2020 18:40

They basically need proper visible enforcement of big fines/consequences. Rather than all these pleas. That would sort a lot of it.

I anticipate no household mixing, curfew, essential use of public transport.

Would also like something to be announced on next years GCSE’s and A Levels. So stressful to think that the current stance is “going ahead as normal” when let’s face it, missing 6 months plus god knows how many fortnights of taught content is hardly recommended when studying for exams.

Aragog · 21/09/2020 18:41

I also assume that the childcare section is now out of date follows MH's latest announcement today regarding informalities childcare in lockdown areas now being permitted.

herecomesthsun · 21/09/2020 18:45

I think if we are now on Nandos level 4 we need some advice about people who were formerly shielding. There have been previous mumblings about us,but if they think the UK is heading to 200 deaths a day in the next few weeks, then they need a plan for the extremely clinically vulnerable. Because there are lots of us, we are the ones likely to peg it, and we are larded through the schools and outside the school gates.

So. Predictions for tomorrow? Boris's speech.
