I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

His speech for the HoC is at 12:30 tomorrow.

I suspect it will be no household mixing, I can’t decide if they’ll close hospitality businesses for two weeks. I hope they don’t, but they’d need to be strict with not letting groups mix in them. The ones I’ve seen seem to be being well run near me, but the news is always full of photos of bars and clubs that are massively overcrowded... and it seems a lot of places in the NW hadn’t stuck to the table service only suggestions; etc.

I’m selfishly hoping that they don’t close the borders, and we’re not all stuck at home in a mini lockdown.

Disorganisedfish · 21/09/2020 16:01

I’m in an area with local restrictions and absolutely nothing seems to have changed. People are still posting photos of them in pubs, people are still going into school / work / gym. I am genuinely shocked at how little things have changed - it’s been utterly ineffectual here from what I can see.

HoneyBee03 · 21/09/2020 16:02

A curfew on pubs will make no difference. Our local pubs were packed from about 5pm at the weekend.

My guess is just restrictions on going into other people's homes (which a lot of people won't follow anyway) and a reminder to social distance and wear masks. Workplaces and schools to stay open.

MrsMayo · 21/09/2020 16:06

Will people still be allowed to go abroad? I have no holidays booked or plan to book any, I just wondered.

Morfin · 21/09/2020 16:07

@bizmum1

I predict ... more lies
And more nothing, more empty soundbites and something about Christmas.
roguecat · 21/09/2020 16:07

pubs should be shut totally

Hotmilkandhoney · 21/09/2020 16:08

@Toomuchtooyoung01

I'm going to a wedding at the weekend, what do you think it means for that?
Weddings are allowed in local lockdown areas I think? So should be as Covid ‘normal’ unless they decide that wedding receptions are especially risky (there have been some high profile superspreader events recently) and stop them completely as in lockdown. Sad But it’s all speculation at this stage of course.

It's more a question of will they be allowed to come back ....
SueEllenMishke · 21/09/2020 16:10

I'm in an area under local restrictions. One being we can't meet another household indoors or outdoors.
I can tell you now, since coming in end of last week, it's made no difference what so ever. Not many following it at all in my area.

We've had these restrictions in place since August - it's made zero difference

Devlesko · 21/09/2020 16:10

We can go anywhere and do anything as long as we use cash or card whilst doing it.
Hardly rocket science, and at least we can say they are a transparent gov.

billysboy · 21/09/2020 16:14

they cant even enforce what measures that are already here

Thisisneverending · 21/09/2020 16:14

@roguecat

Take it you don’t own or work in one then?
PickAChew · 21/09/2020 16:15

I expect that the measures that have been applied to the north of England and some of the Midlands and which people are expecting to be apied to most of London will be extended through all of England.

dementedma · 21/09/2020 16:17

My mother is 85 and lives alone. She has a support network of neighbours and friends who pop in to help her. She fell at the weekend and broke her big toe and got various other bumps and bruises so now she cant walk. I have been there today but cant do this on my own. If households are banned from mixing, how will we care for her?

Those things are still allowed though aren't they? Confused

Isn't that the truth!

The legislation has also only just been passed for the 'rule of six' so it will be interesting to see whether the new rules are guidance or legislation.

TableFlowerss · 21/09/2020 16:20

I agree with most, it will be a no mixing of households.

I don’t know how that’s going to work for parents who rely on childcare from grandparents. It’s ok saying they’ll have to manage but then they won’t be able to go to work...

I’m not taking grandparents in there 80’s, I’m taking about ones in they’re 50’s, 60’s with no health conditions...

IrmaFayLear · 21/09/2020 16:20

There is always a pub-hater on here. Many, many pubs are really restaurants, and not bars full of drunk youngsters.

Perhaps all hairdressers should close. You see, I can blithely demand that because I have not been to one in over two years....

Some people are SO SELFISH Angry

You are able to do welfare visits.

I'm disabled and DH and I are both vulnerable due to age and health and our DS's are allowed to visit (one at a time) for welfare visits.

To bring things we haven't been able to get delivered and to do household stuff that we can't.

Trevortrilby · 21/09/2020 16:20

Agree the ban on households mixing has achieved exactly zero in my area apart from increasing anxiety levels.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 21/09/2020 16:21

@Letseatgrandma

Is a pub curfew to 9/10pm actually going to make any difference to anything?! It will probably just encourage the people in them to drink more in a shorter time and be more pissed when they leave.
If they stop households mixing it will.
frustrationcentral · 21/09/2020 16:22

@blue25

No mixing of households and a curfew on pubs & restaurants.
Us too, although we also require childcare help so can see us having to cancel even if the wedding is allowed to go ahead
swabthenose · 21/09/2020 16:22

It SHOULD be WFH where possible. There is no good reason why not. But it won’t be as Boris only cares about his property owning pals and many employers only care about having their employees where they can see them.

Id hope there’d be exceptions for caring responsibilities like there were in the lockdown. And frankly I’d ignore it if there wasn’t. You can’t leave someone who needs care to fend for themselves.
roguecat · 21/09/2020 16:22

How is it selfish? Pubs, hairdressers, beauty salons, are high areas of transmission. To stop the virus spreading they need to close. It is commonsense. That is why we are in the position that we are in, because too much was opened up and no enforcing of the rules.
