I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

I would've thought shielding the vulnerable would have a better impact that shutting pubs at 10

RedToothBrush · 22/09/2020 17:51

@Clairaloulou

Am I the only person that thinks it’s odd that there has been no mention of the vulnerable or shielding?
Dont be so inconvenient.

BusMum79 · 22/09/2020 18:00

Didn’t he mention the formerly shielding in the HoC earlier? I am one of them (although it was apparently over-zealous on my GP’s part and unlikely to have to again, plus have had the bloody thing although no test and still suffering after-effects) - so I always listen out with trepidation. He said something like “I want to say to all those who were vulnerable / shielding that we have been talking to medical experts and at this point there is no need for you to take extra precautions/shield but we will keep you updated”. I may well have imagined this as am so at the end of my tether with everything Smile

They need to crack down on schools not following the rules. DDs is horrendous but the LEA insists all is fine and they're following the rules. Kids with coughs are sent to the back of the class instead of home for 2 weeks, bubbles don't isolate when members test positive only people who've been close to the infected person ie friends with or sat next to and bubbles mix in common areas. I've complained but nothing gets done. I work with vulnerable people. If I catch it from. DD and take it to work before I realise people will die.

Longpinknails · 22/09/2020 18:11

@PurplePansy05

Is it OK to meet people from outside your bubble outdoors in England now?

Sorry I'm in Wales, but travelling to England soon and trying to understand all the rules.

Purple Pansy - if the rule of six continues, it means you can meet up to and totalling six people outside (and no more), but that must include yourself.
ineedaholidaynow · 22/09/2020 18:41

@Frequency it should not be the school's decision whether bubbles are sent home, they have to report any positive cases to the PHE (or equivalent) and they tell the school what the action should be

ineedaholidaynow · 22/09/2020 18:42

I think shielding was mentioned but that people currently didn't need to shield unless in local lockdown areas

Notreallyhappy · 22/09/2020 18:45

The shutting of the pubs at 10 is to stop all the pissed people from not socially distancing.
If licenced establishments are shut early there no clubs, bars for the younger element to go to. they are potentially contaminating older people, due to the fact that they have less or no symptoms.
It's not about sensible people booking a table for food & a drink it's about 4 jagearbombs & 12 pinacoladas & not knowing where or who you've been with

You do realise that none of this is the schools fault. They are following govt guidelines.

Here's some joined up thinking going on

www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/deansgate-takeaway-given-pemission-sell-18977090
Deansgate takeaway given pemission to sell alcohol with food deliveries until early hours - but hours will be cut

Article from today.

Instead of closing at 3am Mondays to Thursdays, the owners of the takeaway agreed to close at 2am and employ door staff on Fridays and Saturdays between 11pm and closing time.

Now, it strikes me as pretty stupid to still be issuing licences for take away alcohol until 2am in the morning when the pubs are being forced to shut at 10pm and the identified problem (which is particularly true in manchester) is house parties.

Its hard to fathom why there isnt a suspension on issuing new such licences under the circumstances...

Frequency · 22/09/2020 21:04

I was under the impression government guidelines were to keep them in a bubble as much as feasible and send children with symptoms home not make the common areas a free for all and shove all the coughing kids to the back of the class (before releasing them for lunch where they can mix with any one from any bubble or year).

If I'm mistaken then it's still the case th e government need to crack down and tighten the guidance for schools.

i was chatting to a friend of mine who happens to be a paramedic, apart from all the blame on the government he said that if the public had done as they should then the pandemic would have practically gone by now

Oh right.. they're an expert are they?
earnshaw47 · 22/09/2020 23:31

my friend the paradmedic might not be an expert but believe me, he has been out and about in the ambulance and seen how members of the public behave, you dont have to be a brain surgeon

Yes, am sure this is right tbh, transmission could have been much more effectively suppressed.

You only have to read threads on here to see how many people are saying 'I won't follow the rules'. It's infuriating!

ronT · 23/09/2020 04:50

At a rough guess, I'd say his speech will be something along the lines of "We...we...we...we must... yes... flatten the er... yes... sternuntur et in curva, so to... ah... whuff! Yes. We must stop the spread by... ah... staying... er... staying at home... or... or... or or or going... er yes... going to... er... to... to work... or... er... or not as it were........." for about an hour or so until everyone has lost the will to live anyway.

The reality is so disappointing I'm going to give you a chance to not read the next bit of my post

DON'T LOOK IF YOU WANT YOUR REMAINING SLIVER OF BELIEF IN THE GOVERNMENT TO DISAPPEAR

it stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A.
Yet again when proof that government (all not just this shot show) are smoke and mirrors, appearance over delivery.

Yep government. Threatening fines, not allowing schools to ask for a negative test (that's if they can get one in the first place) demonizing those who do get tested for a 'cold'. Giving guidance that children can attend with colds. Expecting whole year groups to be bubbles, or several year groups in some cases. Tip of the iceberg, teachers predicted all this before schools opened.
pinkstripeycat · 23/09/2020 16:41

Do people need to be told to shield? Can’t folk make their own sensible decisions rather than relying on the Government and then saying the Government advice doesn’t make sense?

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2020 16:54

@pinkstripeycat

I am shielding effectively and am in between retirement and semi-retirement. I have made every choice I can to reduce my risk.

However, I have children still at school. It would be very hard to shield from them.

The government has insisted that vulnerable families and children still have to be back at school. Previously, they insisted that

  • children would not catch covid
  • children would not pass it on
  • schools were very safe.
  • there would be lots of testing!

and so on.

This was all nonsense.

But,even with positive cases over 6 thousand a day, there will be fines and possible loss of school places if these children don't go to school.

It would be great if the government let us make our own sensible decisions.

ineedaholidaynow · 23/09/2020 19:45

I assume if you can officially shield then you have protected employment rights or if a child not get fined for non attendance at school. If you unofficially shield then you won’t have these rights as you are not off sick.
