I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

@Howslifenow it needs to be up to families. For instance my parents and pils are all in their 50s, most still working and in good health. If grandparents are over 70 then that would be a different thing.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/09/2020 17:38

I reckon they'll say no visiting other households or mixing with other households in venues such as pubs and restaurants - try to keep people to their family bubbles as much as possible.

If that doesn't work they may close down things like hair salons and beauticians which will put many out of business.

Whichever way you cut it, I dont think they can really stop the virus letting rip now if people are allowed to work and children allowed to go to school. They are merely slowing it down a tad, but have to be seen to be doing something. Unfortunately without a full on lock down until a vaccine is widely available, which would reduce many to penury, they won't do a full on lock down again. Actually fortunately, as I'd rather get the virus than be destitute.

glitterwobbles · 21/09/2020 17:39

Maybe he'll just say up yours. Grow a pair and get on with it I'm leaving the country.
That's how I feel having stuck to all the rules and some throughout. I'm fed up with the old man who stood virtually on top of me in a queue today. There was no need.
I miss catching up for a sneaky Gin with my friends, parties ,theatre trips and family birthdays. But not as much as the loved ones of people who have died prematurely miss them.
So I hope more of us can stop making this political and just keep our distance, wear a mask and believe that our small actions make a difference.

kwest · 21/09/2020 17:39

@swabthenose

They won’t close schools until they’re forced to admit that with everything else closed it clearly is still transmitting in schools. Even then they’ll probably say it’s mostly the teachers and parents chatting on the school run!
Apparently there’s always an up spike in colds/flu/whatever virus is doing the rounds when kids return to school. Makes sense I suppose and an increase in cases doesn’t translate to deaths in the majority of cases.
daisychain01 · 21/09/2020 17:40

@Toomuchtooyoung01

I'm going to a wedding at the weekend, what do you think it means for that?
I'm no expert @Toomuchtooyoung01 but I expect well-controlled venues that have what the Government deem to be C19 safety steps in place will not be told to cancel those events. It is more the ad-hoc socialising in people's houses where space is limited and people don't do social distancing very well, that they are trying to eliminate for a couple of weeks.

That's only my take on it, but it would be well worth the hosts contacting the venue immediately to talk through the implications on safety for them and their guests.

HeIenaDove · 21/09/2020 17:41

Hairdressers where i am are all using PPE and the one i go to (i had my haircut and colour done last week) is scrupulously clean , taking all Covid precautions and then some. Cant be compared to pubs. The drinkers have already had all the bloody leeway when it comes to masks.

BunsyGirl · 21/09/2020 17:41

I really hope he will keep the support bubbles if he bans household contact. My dad lives on his own and would not be able to cope with the isolation again.

They have kept them in the areas where household contact is banned so far.
Dominicgoings · 21/09/2020 17:45

‘I can't understand the curfew?. Does covid not circulate before 10pm?’

I see this kind if weird comment all the time.
Would you rather pubs were shut completely?
Or measures introduced to mitigate some of the risks associated with them staying open?
What tends to happen in pubs as the evening progresses? People get drunk, social distancing goes to pot. Hand sanitising out the window. The risk of infection rises.

Reduce the risk by shortening opening times. It’s not rocket science Wink

I hope so too. My dad lives alone and was diagnosed last week with terminal cancer. There is no way on this, or any other, planet that I will not be going into his house.

Stop going on about boris only caring about the economy as if none of you don’t ? It’s the economy and taxes and NI a and corporation tax that pay for the NHS a and all other services . Of course it has to be a balance between the two and it’s ridiculous to suggest anything else .

It’s not black and white

There is no one single answer

If we have full lockdown again and especially without furlough then thousands more will lose their jobs .

And the fact is that many people are commenting that the rules have made no difference and they are being ignored so there is your answer about why we are in this position again .

And as to the boring people who mentioned DC again . He had a vunerable child , he did not break the rules that were in place at the time except for the Test drive . And unless you are all lemmings that can’t think for yourselves then that argument is just so over now.

One of my colleagues has a very seriously ill daughter 12 years old and she is terrified that the hospitals will be full again and if she needs urgent help it may not be available . It’s not just about the older generation.

If my uk holiday is cancelled again I think I will just live with it but if I see people flouting the guidance of course I will be annoyed .

EmbarrassingMama · 21/09/2020 17:47

I wish they’d shut the bloody pubs.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 21/09/2020 17:48

The NW restrictions that come into play tomorrow have just been published

www.gov.uk/guidance/north-west-england-local-restrictions

No socialising
Limit travel
Organised sport and gyms/classes etc can open
Weddings etc back to 6
Table service only in bars/cafes etc

I suspect this might come in for whole country for next week or something. With the promise of full lockdown with the exception of schools.

The pub closing thing is because people are less likely to go out if they know it's over by 10. And most of the youth don't go out till 10 anyway.

Unsure33 · 21/09/2020 17:49

Support bubbles for vunerable were there before it’s just that people did not read the guidance properly so I can’t see they will remove them now.

MoaningMurlock · 21/09/2020 17:50

Have you met British people? 😂

What will happen is the pubs will open earlier, and people will go earlier.

Then go round their mates houses when the pubs shut at 10 to carry on the party.

Unsure33 · 21/09/2020 17:56

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis

That’s very comprehensive but takes some reading .

I wonder if they will see if it works to bring down cases first before implementing nationwide .

I think the hard thing might be people sorting their support bubbles .

And sticking to them

Areyousureted · 21/09/2020 17:58

I don’t think they are going to do enough to stem the virus. If schools and offices are allowed to stay open I can’t see anything else making much difference. I am no expert though so maybe it will 🤷‍♀️

Unsure33 · 21/09/2020 17:58

@MoaningMurlock

So that’s why we have a problem so asking people nicely is the main problem?

If you go to some other countries they are much stricter about no question on the spot fines .

DGRossetti · 21/09/2020 18:00

"except for the test drive".

Is that like being a little bit pregnant ?

I live in a city with 3 universities.

Students don't go out till later, though if they have no teaching and no library access and no SU then they will have to find something to do to pass the bleak and miserable time.

The daytime drinkers here are far from youthful - drinking all day anyway. Karaoke from 9am.

But people who work all go home for their tea and get done up before going out.

Anyway - that is the rationale it is based on. Theoretically people get less pissed and less people get pissed in public.

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/09/2020 18:07

It’s spreading via the 20 somethings - makes sense to restrict pubs etc

Who’s ‘they’? You are all in this as a nation. You need to work together to prevent the spread. You make those choices. Not the government. You!!

Janaih · 21/09/2020 18:07

I think hes going to resign.

Echobelly · 21/09/2020 18:07

Something feeble. Earlier closing for pubs, maybe a short no visiting time. Schools open. Don't know about other organised events.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 21/09/2020 18:10

@Janaih - that's a lovely thought

Ellsbells12 · 21/09/2020 18:10

Can't blame him who would wanna do this job
