I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

Any ideas as to whether separated children will be allowed to visit dads under these new regulations as only seem to mention no mixing of households, which to me means i will not be able to see my children for a while?

From one of the local lockdown pages re exemptions:

  • to continue existing arrangements for access to, and contact between, parents and children where the children do not live in the same household as their parents, or one of their parents.

I went on public transport for the first time yesterday. (London Underground)

Going was fine, tube fairly empty, people masked, social distancing observed.

Coming home was an eye opener. Far more passengers so social distancing practically impossible, very many people NOT masked, quite a few groups larger than 6 travelling together .

I sat at the end of the carriage, put my bag on the empty seat next to me and glowered at anyone who looked at it. But it put me off public transport for the foreseeable future. There seem to be just too many people out there who clearly don't give a shit about their own health, let alone anyone else's.

MarshaBradyo · 21/09/2020 17:10

Hopefully no closures to businesses and schools.

Maybe socialisation outside the home.

Aragog · 21/09/2020 17:14

Nellodee

From those plans - who even knows if they are being followed anymore?!?!

Schools as a whole will be the very last to close down - everything else would lock down first. Primary schools and nurseries will remain open until the very end.

MotorwayDiva · 21/09/2020 17:15

All measures to be lifted and go for herd immunity. Has to be something major for a cobra meeting...

Belladonna12 · 21/09/2020 17:15

It may actually come to a point where we do have to learn to live with this virus in some way, but one which allows people to give their parents, grandparents, grandchild, best friends, boyfriends and girlfriends, etc a hug sometimes.

I think there will be a vaccine early next year. I'm not going to hug my elderly parents until they have had it. I'm sure my children won't either. It's not worth the risk.

Aragog · 21/09/2020 17:16

Belladonna12

And if the vaccine doesn't come??
How long can we realistically go on like this?

swabthenose · 21/09/2020 17:17

They won’t close schools until they’re forced to admit that with everything else closed it clearly is still transmitting in schools. Even then they’ll probably say it’s mostly the teachers and parents chatting on the school run!

Mymycherrypie · 21/09/2020 17:19

I know plenty of day drinkers who will think nothing of the measures.

ktp100 · 21/09/2020 17:20

I thought the medical expert briefing this morning was great. Straight forward, clear, no mixed messages, addressed a few of the SM-driven selfish wanker theories head on - hoping for more of this kind of briefing going forward, rather than Bozo bumbling on and making no sense.

As far as tomorrow's briefing, I'm expecting no mixing with other households (potentially outside of a support bubble - but then people just make up new bullshit & unnecessary bubbles because they're twats who only give a fuck about themselves) and a curfew on bars & restaurants.

If we don't do something now this could be really bad again in a few weeks. The shoot up in cases since the kids went back is really worrying.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 17:20

Ni has just said no mixing with other houses and child care arrangements can stay in place. That makes sense, esp getting to and from school... Instead of having every parent there when one can take more.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 21/09/2020 17:21

The thing is although pubs i have been to have been great with sd from other tables , waitress serving , sanitiser etc etc the fact is not one allows you to social distance from the 6 of you at the table so if you meet 5 friends etc
Where as if i have 2 friends come over me and dh sit in ine sofa they sit in the other more than 2 m away , same 4 go to pub we cannot sit 2 m away from other couple
10 pm curfew is stupid people will just go out earlier especially at weekend and also no one is enforcing anything
On sat went to local coast and pub had loads outside not social distancing as we walked past a police van also drove past , we ended up walking the long way so that we didn't have to try and squeeze through the crowd this was at 7 pm , when we walked past at 9 pm it was already much quieter but was cold outside

Why do you think the vaccine won't come? Good progress has been made so far. I'm not going to give up and start hugging everyone on the basis that it won't come at this stage.

If they cancel my wedding again I will be furious.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 21/09/2020 17:25

Have the cases in local lockdown areas actually gone down with all restrictions ??

Jourdain11 · 21/09/2020 17:25

I think this thread kind of serves to demonstrate that this situation isn't doing much for general mental wellbeing and morale Confused

Not in mine.

"The situation" is a government that couldn't be trusted to count the fingers on one hand and get the same answer twice. Compounded by a ringing bell message that rules is for fools.
MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 21/09/2020 17:27

@Remmy123 Hancock just said in the Commons that formal and informal childcare arrangements can continue even in areas/times of lockdown.

BlusteryShowers · 21/09/2020 17:29

I feel sorry for pub and bar owners. We have lots of lovely locally owned ones. I hope eat out to help out did enough to give them a boost.

My sister owns a beauty salon. They were one of the last sectors to reopen and only able to run at 50% capacity due to covid measures. I hope they allow her business to stay open.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 17:29

I can't understand the curfew?. Does covid not circulate before 10pm?

I think the only useful ideas coming out are about instantly shutting places down that don't take names or sd.

I went to several places, some incredibly fastidious, some absolutely not so. The threat may help to force them to comply.

Everyday though I hear so much confusion around the virus, people don't understand it at all!

Today I heard '' but I'm in the bubble so I can't catch it ''.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 17:30

Blustery, with masks and visors I hope they can stay open to.

kwest · 21/09/2020 17:34

@roguecat

How is it selfish? Pubs, hairdressers, beauty salons, are high areas of transmission. To stop the virus spreading they need to close. It is commonsense. That is why we are in the position that we are in, because too much was opened up and no enforcing of the rules.
But a lot of people who work in these industries were banned during the lockdown from working but also not in receipt of any financial help due to being new self employed, new starter, etc etc. They can’t be banned from opening again. And before anyone accuses me of caring more about money than lives, I would suggest that all those who were at home on furlough wouldn’t have been quite so happy if they received no money during that time. Not quite so willing to “save lives/NHS etc”.
Howslifenow · 21/09/2020 17:35

How can childcare be allowed now by grandparents. Has the science changed. Or the message now is ' Kill your Gran'

BlusteryShowers · 21/09/2020 17:35

@Bulblasagne They've got the lot; visors, masks, screens at the nail table, distancing and a fifteen minute clean after each client. Their income has been hugely affected as they simply can't get the turnover of treatments they normally would.
