I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

Maybe if they announced things properly instead of in dribs and drabs and treating it like its some big X Factor type reveal, it would help

SeekingCoffee33 · 21/09/2020 23:42

Except I haven’t flouted the rules... I’ve bloody followed them so I’ll point my finger at the government all I want.

CalmYoBadSelf · 21/09/2020 23:47

@Cam77

If only Keir was PM right now.
How would you know? He hasn't said anything for months! I had great hopes he would be a voice of reason and compassion but he hasn't had a voice at all.

I'm quite pessimistic about all of this because I think enough of society are bending and breaking the rules to undermine any results and the price could be paid by any one of us

Announcement will be flesh on the bones of the two week half term circuit break. The thinking is that once children finish then society with shut down, pretty much as the deep restrictions in March and April. Read, leaving house for essential food and work only if you cannot work from home.
Pubs, personal care such as hair and beauty to close. There is an idea also to restrict travel between areas, Scotland had 5/30 miles earlier, this may come into use in England.

This !! I don’t understand why they do it like this, it just leaves us all nervous and on edge all the time - never mind completely confused
HeIenaDove · 22/09/2020 00:19

@Pink98 It seems celeb culture is so embedded now that this is what politicians think they are.

Stinkyguineapig · 22/09/2020 06:59

One thing I'm really struggling with is a lot of people seem not to want to comply (with stricter rules) because the Government are a shower of shit. I think we should comply despite the gov being a complete shambles.

I am no government sympathiser. I cant bear BJ bumbling and waffling his BS at PMQs, and have complete disdain for JRM .They have absolutely made a complete cock up of multiple certain things, namely test and trace, which should be their top priority, and have not given meaningful clear guidance when most needed.

HOWEVER even when they have laid out guidelines, some people have huffily said "well I'm not doing that for this pathetic government," or " if you think I'm going to stick to the rules after that twat Dominic Cummings..." thinking they are sticking 2 fingers up at them.

If the only consequence of masses of people not following guidelines was pissing off the government, I would completely break the rules, see my family, invite lots of my kids friends round, go out to dinner parties etc. But it isnt. I dont try to follow the guidelines to please BJ and co (they dont really give a shit anyway) I do it because I hope that it might be effective against minimising the spread of the virus....

We don’t break up for nearly 5 weeks-that seems a long time to leave it.
SisterAgatha · 22/09/2020 07:22

I doubt it will be half term, if infections are doubling so quickly already, that will put us near the numbers CW is suggesting. There may be restrictions now and then some more in October. Given how weak the ones leaked are.

Catsarelush · 22/09/2020 07:27

I thought the two week half term sounded like a good idea but it’s too far off. There will have to be other restrictions sooner.

Aragog · 22/09/2020 07:28

What's the point in waiting til half term. That's another 4 or 5 weeks isn't it?

If we follow the numbers few predicted yesterday it's way too late, or are we waiting until we are right in the middle of a leak again to do too little too late? If they are serious with their predictions it should be happening now.

Aragog · 22/09/2020 07:30

I guess Thursdays rules will result in an early night following our friend's wedding on Friday now though?
Though I imagine some will now decide not to bother with the couple of hours break in the middle of the day and head straight to the evening bar/restaurant venue instead.

Egghead68 · 22/09/2020 07:40

Sky News:

Mr Gove adds there will be a "shift in emphasis" in asking people to work from home if they can.

Egghead68 · 22/09/2020 07:50

"If it is possible for people to work from home, then we'd encourage them to do so," says Cabinet Office Minister @michaelgove.

But Mr Gove adds that those who cannot do so should still go to "COVID-secure" workplaces. DC

Whirlwind14 · 22/09/2020 07:54

All this speculation is just awful. Why not just announce straight away and we can get on with it?!

@Stinkyguineapig absolutely! Whatever our opinion, it’s not about politics. No doubt they’ve cocked up with track and trace, the testing but it’s an unenviable job and no one has the answers. Let’s hope Gove is right this morning, if we can comply and change the course of transmission then this might not be a long term period of gloom...

MarshaBradyo · 22/09/2020 07:55

I find the wfh flip flop concerning

Do they know all that stimulus will drive up cases and do it anyway or does it not enter the decisions - the latter is a bit worrying.

The80sweregreat · 22/09/2020 08:10

Reading the Daily Mail you would think he will announce Marshall law today!
It's just a few things to try to keep everyone happy : they know they can't lock us down again fully and leaving it up to the individual to try to keep things jogging along. It's not perfect but hopefully people will abide by the rules and just use common sense. It's a big ask especially as people won't comply to the basic rules such as mask wearing.
Half term might help as a circuit breaker.
Ours is five weeks away.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/09/2020 08:15

Leaving it until half term is likely to mean that the problem will be much bigger by then.

No idea what the 10 pm pub curfew is supposed to achieve.

Egghead68 · 22/09/2020 08:15

Sorry but seeing this a lot here and my teeth are on edge. It’s “martial” law.

MorrisZapp · 22/09/2020 08:18

When they make announcements with no notice people are furious about having to cancel plans and bemoaning the lack of lead in time. The gvt literally can't win on this.
MarshaBradyo · 22/09/2020 08:19

Wfh again will do more than the pub thing

Egghead68 · 22/09/2020 08:21

A lot more.

All those lies they were telling us about “the evidence is it doesn’t spread in the workplace”...

BarbaraofSeville · 22/09/2020 08:24

But no-one currently knows what the restrictions will be, it's all speculation apart from the pub curfew.

People need a couple of day's notice of what the actual rules will be so they can act accordingly if they have to sort childcare, cancel holiday arrangements etc.

It would have made more sense to have the CW/PV show immediately followed by Boris or another senior minister telling us what the new rules are and having the written rules and guidance published on gov.uk at the same time.

Because last time there was a big change, this wasn't published until the day after, leaving everyone scratching their heads about what they were and were not allowed to do - I think it was the northern England local lockdowns, which were announced late at night with no clarity where they meant in northern England. Of course it doesn't matter to them as 'the north' is one amorphous blob of NotLondon.

SeekingCoffee33 · 22/09/2020 08:45

All those lies they were telling us about “the evidence is it doesn’t spread in the workplace”...

Indeed. Lie, lie, lie

SleepingStandingUp · 22/09/2020 08:50

Is it a 5om announcement?
