I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

@ferretface

One thing you can take from today's announcement is that the rule of six will be in place at Christmas, given current restrictions are anticipated to last for six months.
Yes. This. Highly likely. Quite possibly it will be stricter on the basis of what he's said too.

Given that I've just heard of someone testing positive after an adult's birthday party and they work for the NHS in a senior managers position, I'm not holding much hope for high levels of compliance.

So yes I think that the military will be deployed in places surprisingly soon.

Snoringferret · 22/09/2020 13:07

Re indoor team sports my guess is that it may affect the max size of group fitness classes but not general gyms or swimming etc as those are supposed to be covid safe anyway. Arguably fitness classes are not team sports though so may not be captured.

I run a boutique fitness studio that only does classes. I'm really hoping classes can go ahead or I will have to close my business after 10 years.
I only just survived lockdown but 5 people in a class won't cover my rent let alone anything else.

icedaisy · 22/09/2020 13:13

So frustrating trying to follow this.

Why is his announcement 8pm if it's happening now?

Yet Nicola is now and headlining live on BBC SCOTLAND is boris talking to parliament.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/09/2020 13:13

So how long are the giving the R to get below 1?

ferretface · 22/09/2020 13:17

@Snoringferret I hugely sympathise. I only attend group fitness classes and have no real interest in going just for the machines etc. So terrible for business owners if this is the consequence as there is real demand for the class only format. Fingers crossed for you that it only applies to team contact sports (and it's still terrible for people who run indoor team sport venues or participate in those sports)

I see there is a limit on wedding guests to 15 - can’t find anything about funerals .... did anyone hear anything please ?

Funerals remain at 30.
Snoringferret · 22/09/2020 13:21

Thank you fellow ferret.

I know other people have been going through so much more but my business is my life. I don't have children and I have invested everything I have into it. I have managed to keep it going through lockdown but I'm exhausted now.

Feeling very disheartened.

He's made a speech to the Commons and the announcement for tonight is for us to watch.
Rosehip10 · 22/09/2020 13:25

The UK doesn't has way less police and armed forces per head of population than places like Spain and France so I wouldn't worry about troops on the street any time soon.

Quickchange5 · 22/09/2020 13:26

@Whitney168 thank you

WestTen · 22/09/2020 13:26

@Quickchange5 Maximum of 30 people allowed at funerals. I heard him say that

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 13:29

'Why is his announcement 8pm if it's happening now?'

Because like Nicola they have to release a statement to the house for scrutiny before restrictions are also announced generally.

I must be missing something I just don't see how only closing pubs early, more people to wfh and indoor sport to 6 only will make any difference.

WestTen · 22/09/2020 13:34

Do the new restrictions include swimming pools?

Quickchange5 · 22/09/2020 13:37

@WestTen thank you

Madcats · 22/09/2020 14:08

I've have just been listening to the clip on the BBC website (of course we need to see what emerges in writing). www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54245931

In terms of sport it looks as if no more than 6 ADULTS are allowed in an indoor TEAM sport (so is that 3 on a team and no ref? I suppose it must be). My local Uni has 1/2 dozen tennis courts in an arena - I wonder what that means if 4 people decide to have a game of doubles.

BJ's emphasis on 'adults' implies that kids can still practice netball/volleyball etc as long as they are following the rules set out by their sport's governing body or school.

Gyms and swimming pools did not get a mention. DD will be gutted if they have to close again.

Please please can everybody just have a dull social life for a while and stick to the rules.

icedaisy · 22/09/2020 14:43

Thank you @GetOffYourHighHorse and @mediumperiperi

BBC Scotland also appears to now be showing Scotland, which was half my confusion.

Ban on households indoors again. Sad

PurplePansy05 · 22/09/2020 14:54

Is it OK to meet people from outside your bubble outdoors in England now?

Sorry I'm in Wales, but travelling to England soon and trying to understand all the rules.

Splodgetastic · 22/09/2020 15:06

So NI and Scotland no household mixing. Did Boris miss something from his statement to Parliament? If not, why is household mixing okay in England?

southparkroses · 22/09/2020 15:12

I'm so confused
southparkroses · 22/09/2020 15:13

What does it mean for hotels?

Purpleheadgirl · 22/09/2020 15:31

Military involvement is to replace those police that aren't quite on the street e g guarding places apparently for example, this then frees up more police to help enforce the rules

Clairaloulou · 22/09/2020 17:30

Am I the only person that thinks it’s odd that there has been no mention of the vulnerable or shielding?

The80sweregreat · 22/09/2020 17:41

No mention at all of the vulnerable, it's true.
In fact it seemed a lot of drama over not very much to be honest. Warming us up for more to come maybe?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/09/2020 17:43

@Clairaloulou

Am I the only person that thinks it’s odd that there has been no mention of the vulnerable or shielding?
Yes, I noticed that it mention of the formerly shielding was absent & thought it odd.
