I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

@WhoWants2Know

BBC just announced pubs in England will close at 10pm and the hospitality sector will be reduced to table service from Thursday . Boris will speak tomorrow at 8pm.
I don't understand the 10pm closing thing. Is it The Science?
Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 22:40

Apparently because then people will get less drunk and socially inhibited Confused

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 22:46

No they will just congregate in private homes to carry on the party...

Gertie75 · 21/09/2020 22:47

I think the 10pm curfew is aimed more towards solving the problems around late night bars and nightclubs than the local pub.

SeekingCoffee33 · 21/09/2020 22:48

Literally probably just what’d been leaked... that restaurants, pubs and clubs must close at 10pm and we all better be good or tougher restrictions will follow

ineedaholidaynow · 21/09/2020 22:48

Curfews seem to work in other countries

Cruachan31 · 21/09/2020 22:51

@RedToothBrush “He will emphasis that this is a critical moment, that people have become complacent and if they don't stick the rules, he will be forced to 'cancel christmas' and we will be to blame (not the government) and he will be very sad and sorry about this.”

To be honest we WILL be to blame.

The number of people on this forum who say that they are ignoring the guidelines is dreadful. Then you have those who respond saying that they are right to ignore the guidelines and shoot posters down, calling them the derogatory term of the “Covid Police” if they consider reporting people, which is frankly disgusting!

I don’t think the Government has dealt with Covid particularly well (and I loathe Boris), but it has been a learning curve for them as well as us! The rate is increasing, but instead of just pointing the finger at the Government, people should take a good long hard look at themselves and own that they have a responsibility, if not to the Government, to themselves, their friends and their family! If YOU flout the guidelines and your elderly or immunosuppressed family catch Covid from you and die, it is YOUR fault, not the Governments!

MissPoldark · 21/09/2020 22:55

Boris is speaking at 8pm?
This is pretty poor timing, Bake Off starts tomorrow!
Wonder who’s going to end up with a soggy bottom?

EasterIssland · 21/09/2020 22:56

@ShaunaTheSheep

No they will just congregate in private homes to carry on the party...
If the mixing households law comes forward then this won’t be allowed.
Aragog · 21/09/2020 22:56

Shaunathesheep - thank you. We've certainly had better years. Although one relative did have Covid at the time of death, none were actually caused by Covid. Just the virus has made everything so much harder to deal with obviously.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 23:01

They want to break unnecessary links in households?

But every day cheek by jowl your linking tons of families through school!. Keeps rooms ventilated, we can't! Windows either barely open or students say they are cold Hmm, they cough without covering up, sneeze with abandon...

And they are supremely vocal!

PurplePansy05 · 21/09/2020 23:04

Sky just published an article on that...I'm still none the wiser Confused

Rosehip10 · 21/09/2020 23:04

As if the 10pm pub thing will do anything

PurplePansy05 · 21/09/2020 23:05

Pam from Gavin & Stacey comes to mind, "Is that IT?!", "Mick?!"

Egghead68 · 21/09/2020 23:06

I don’t think the curfew is going to do much at all except remind people they need to take Covid-19 seriously.

I suspect there may be no other measures announced tomorrow, just a pep talk and a “if you do not social distance we will put more measures in force”.

Guess the education of our kids is a right. Going to visit our parents or friends every day / weekend / whatever is not. I know for some it’s helpful cuz of mental health and I’d totally approve that someone that needs it but it’s clear that we need to cut on social life and if we don’t then stricter measurements will be taken so that we reduce it
ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 23:06

@EasterIssland obviously but it's impossible to control behaviours to that extent.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 23:09

That was referring to the curfew btw

TheSandman · 21/09/2020 23:10

@Sunnydayhere

Currently on holiday on remote Scottish island.

Hopefully we can get home to NW on Wednesday!

I like it here but to have to stay until things get better........

Only remote from where you usually are. Bloody next door for me.
EasterIssland · 21/09/2020 23:11

I know. Some people will always break the rules like they did during lockdown (you just have to look at mn and see how some say they won’t follow the rules ) but many of us will and that will help reducing the spread

Well said!

swabthenose · 21/09/2020 23:17

Can't be arsed anymore with people making speeches that have already been leaked to the press. Sometimes word for word. Such bullshit.

And yes, people will OBVIOUSLY go back to people's houses when the pub closes at 10? Against the rules, but there won't be police on every street corner.

Perfect! Then when bojo comes here and says full lockdown I hope these people don’t complain at all ... not even if they lose their job. Or their kids lose another year in education.
wedidntstartthefires · 21/09/2020 23:35

@Cam77

If only Keir was PM right now.
I would feel a lot happier/more confident if that was the case too.
LetsPlayAGame20 · 21/09/2020 23:37

Or people will just go out earlier.... To get beer time in
