I'm pretty sure we're going to get told we can't see any other households for 2 weeks and a curfew on pubs.

Although a part of me thinks they'll just say no to seeing any other households and leave it at that with no limit. I'm hoping they'll keep the support bubbles though.

@TheSandman

I hope it ends, "I have therefore handed my resignation to the queen in the hope that some grown-ups will be allowed to fix everything I've fucked up for the past four years."

A ritual self-disembowelling immediately afterwards wouldn't go amiss either.

Love this
PurplePansy05 · 21/09/2020 21:15

@clareykb Thank you so much! Fingers crossed. It's just me and DH and a secluded cottage, we're pretty desperate to have a break, been looking forward to it for a year now. X

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 21:15

That was in reference to the northwest Post earlier

Cam77 · 21/09/2020 21:18

If only Keir was PM right now.

Hotmilkandhoney · 21/09/2020 21:19

@Redolent

Looks like tomorrow is going to be a relatively mild affair: 10pm, curfews on hospitality, maybe closures in very hard hit areas, enforcement of rule of six. (according to The Torygraph)
Really don’t understand how that would constitute swift strong action (or whatever the scientists called it)? That seems like it would barely make a difference. There is a cobra meeting tomorrow so presumably it’s not all decided yet... I would expect some curbing of social mixing surely?
ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 21/09/2020 21:27

@Aragog Similar situation here. My usually extremely compliant and mild mannered DH has been muttering ominously about anyone trying to stop him picking up his daughter if she needs him.... I am praying she will be allowed home, but I think we would accept it was worth paying a fine if she finds herself locked down with strangers she can't get on with.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 21:33

@Aragog

Bathroom - technically he will no liver be part of your household. His household will be his student accommodation.
I have this dilemma too. As far as I am concerned student DC is away at uni and in whatever bubble is deemed by the uni whilst at uni. But his home is our family home, as stated on all legal identity documents.

Does anyone know where I can read the legal definition of a household for Covid purposes?

Aragog · 21/09/2020 21:35

Good luck to your Dd - and to you and your Dh. I hope all goes well and all our concerns are unnecessary in the end.

Mind you - she will definitely be coming home Christmas regardless if any rules!!

Mumratheevergiving · 21/09/2020 21:36

@Stinkyguineapig Boris will probably waffle on about closing pubs 10 minutes early and not mixing households if your surname is in the first half of the alphabet, work from home on days starting with t and other ineffectual methods which might contradict what todays scientific advisors were hinting at.....
By jove, I think you’ve got it!

Whatever Johnson does say will be as clear as mud.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 21:37

I have a vision of 40,000 parents intent on sneaking into a university city under cover of darkness at the end of term and inadvertently causing traffic chaos!

Aragog · 21/09/2020 21:40

Shaunathesheep - that's kind of the view we will be taking. She's going to her place of education and - just like bil has to stay over in London in order toaccess his work place - she is staying over in a university bubble in order to access her education, especially as it's only two sessions face to face in the university to start with. But here is her home. All her legal documentation says here is her home at this point and it's staying like that for the time being.

And it's true at least for the first month - for a number of reasons and mainly linked to deaths of close family (we are finally able to hold a small social distanced gathering to complete two of the funeral procedures which weren't allowed in April) she will be home each weekend for the first three weekends anyway. So she pretty much is only going over there for accessing the face to face lectures. We just happened to have paid for her to have a room in a flat rather than rooms in a hotel.

HesterShaw1 · 21/09/2020 21:44

I live alone. If he thinks that I and people like me are giving up our personal support and love lives again...especially in an area with hardly any infections...its not going to happen.

ShaunaTheSheep · 21/09/2020 21:52

@Aragog my sympathies for your losses. There is a distinct lack of compassion in any of the so-called rules - most of which seem to contradict each other.

Mumratheevergiving · 21/09/2020 21:53

He might also:

  1. go off on a tangent about bbqs and what his favourite sausage is
  2. attempt to rally the naughtytestusing hoards & evoke some patriotism
  3. probably close with jolly prospects for Christmas as he can’t bear to be the Grinch.

What time’s the solo BoJo Show?

cdtaylornats · 21/09/2020 21:56

In Scotland we shall as usual be betting on Sturgeon rushing to get her announcement in first or after Boris. It will be the same but with slightly different wording.

@ShaunaTheSheep you might notice a lack of compassion from the virus.

TwentyViginti · 21/09/2020 21:57

I can picture the scene - complete with cloaks and hoods and the Pink Panther theme tune playing! Grin

I no longer work, DC very adult now, so no worries there - but I'm still VERY PISSED OFF we're going backwards with this arse of a pandemic.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/09/2020 22:04

@Staffy1

Am I the only one that wants schools to close again? I am fearful for my DS at a special needs school that can't do the social distancing and a lot of the children, including my DS, don't understand not to touch everything before fingering their faces and mouths. I hate this situation.
I don't want them to close again because my dc seem so happy & dc5(3) has settled in to nursery really well considering he had not taster sessions or anything. I can completely see why you'd like them to be though Staffy1. I think it would be wise for them to drop fines again so those in similar situations can make the choice, if they're able to homeschool.

It's all well & good saying hospitality venues should close, but there are vast numbers of people employed both directly & indirectly. With furlough due to wind up I don't see how it could work, without huge job losses & the near collapse of the sector.

He'll just waffle & tell us it's our fault.

Those that have always followed the rules will continue to do so, same goes for those that have ignored them.

WhoWants2Know · 21/09/2020 22:19

I feel as though any changes they announce tomorrow won't really make a difference. People have heard so many announcements in the last 6 months and most haven't lost a loved one or seen enough people significantly harmed by the virus. So the announcements have become background noise.

It doesn't matter if they bring in fines and ask people to report on their neighbours. The people who are already mixing in large groups don't give a shit. There aren't enough police to come out and issue fines to every household who invites someone to tea.

People will still mix at work and school, in pubs and restaurants and shops. At home they might just do it more discretely. That's about it.

Areyousureted · 21/09/2020 22:21

Agreed whowants2know

Sunnydayhere · 21/09/2020 22:24

Currently on holiday on remote Scottish island.

Hopefully we can get home to NW on Wednesday!

I like it here but to have to stay until things get better........

Ellsbells12 · 21/09/2020 22:25

@Jourdain11 125 suicides last week , my friends husband suicidal ., 2 teens suicide , young man suicide due to job loss no money for 6 months more worried about that

Omg I laughed so much at this

ohthegoats · 21/09/2020 22:29

I do NOT want schools to close right now. I've just got my class into a decent state for learning again. Time to go hell for leather for a few months frankly.

WhoWants2Know · 21/09/2020 22:35

BBC just announced pubs in England will close at 10pm and the hospitality sector will be reduced to table service from Thursday . Boris will speak tomorrow at 8pm.
