Sunday night or Monday? Or is it still all just hearsay?

I think it will be an announcement on Tuesday, but the real question is when it comes into force. Will they give everyone a final Friday night to get pissed and lick each other's faces? Or will they actually consider thst the opportunity for a final party misses the point entirely?

OvertheRainbow2U · 19/09/2020 23:30

I live in Bristol UK and have just heard 1st person to die of covid in our local hospital after no covid deaths for 3 months. I am a NHS nurse and would welcome lockdown - hopefully a short/sharp scenario - i.e 4 weeks strict lockdown will stop the spread and also lend more time for a vaccination to be given the blue light ?

Guylan · 19/09/2020 23:32

I found Independent Sage’s 10 suggested measures to prevent a lockdown interesting. I know when Independent Sage is mentioned some complained they are partisan. However, they have some highly qualified people in the group and let’s face it the govt have made a pig ear’s of it.

I realise official Sage may well have given similar advice to the govt as Independent have given over the last months but govt not listened.

Independent Sage have stressed these measures need to be done immediately as there is little to waste before the rise in cases becomes exponential.

Anyone know when we'll get the new announcement?

Am I the only one thinking that the new measure being talked up - anyone with a positive test result has to self-isolate or else - is a very convenient way for the government to take the heat off themselves over the criminal lack of available testing? They know loads of people won't get tested for fear of losing money/jobs/homes, but the numbers will keep rising, so they get their herd immunity experiment into the devil's bargain Hmm

I have just seen that the govt are at least going to offer £500 to those on low incomes who have to self isolate for 2 weeks.

Why is there always this stupid hearsay of things maybe getting announced on certain days. Are they incapable of just deciding on something and telling us, not via the bloody press.

TheSeedsOfADream · 19/09/2020 23:47

I was just coming to see if there had been an announcement tonight as the late Italian news has just said Boris Johnson will be "shortly" announcing a full lockdown in "more areas".

I noticed last night on my sky T V guide 11 . 00 am .Leaders speech BBC . Make of that what you will .

Bramleyapples13 · 19/09/2020 23:52

From the 28th September, it's going to be £1000 fines up to £10000 for people not complying with self isolation from the latest update.

This lockdown will be nothing like the last one. We will Be able to go Out for non essential trips just with our own families for 2 weeks. Pubs and resteraunts likely to shut aswell for 2 weeks... Hardly the doom and gloom of the last lockdown.

lemoncrisp · 20/09/2020 00:11

Does anyone think airports will be closed this week? My dd has been stuck in Buenos Aires since March. Got tickets with KLM to return via Amsterdam this week, arriving Friday. This is the third time she's bought tickets since march ....each time flights have been cancelled/Argentinian boyfriendcant go through immigration in madrid/Argentinians cant leave Argentina. Fingers crossed they get their flights this week!!!

justasking111 · 20/09/2020 00:21

Spain and France have much higher figures than us daily, they have not locked down again they know it is economically unworkable.

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 20/09/2020 00:42

@TheNewLook

The trouble with getting people to comply a second time is that hardly anyone caught it and hardly anyone knows anyone who caught it! Certainly that’s my feeling anecdotally. Nobody around me knows a single person who has had Covid, let alone died from it. This makes it feel very remote and abstract to a lot of people. It’s hard to see the point of running away from a virus that hasn’t touched most people’s lives anyway.
This is nonsense, I live in a city, I had Covid, my husband did, my colleague did, her mum died of it, my other colleagues uncle died of it, my husbands best friend had it so badly it hospitalised him, one of husbands customers died of it - it's not a bloody figment of people's imaginations and it's not a joke

You're an NHS nurse and you reckon a vaccine is awaiting a blue light, seriously... Confused

Airports never closed. A friend of mine was in Indonesia in March and her way to go back to Spain was via London.

I live in Bristol as well and don’t agree with you. We’ve got 11/100k cases/week. 1700 since March and 250 deaths. The hospital they built in uwe was dismantled without being used.

Why kill the economy of the city with a full lockdown for something that is barely affecting us ? Id accept some of the measures like pubs to close at 10 and so. But not fully closed not hairdressers and so.

Btw we had lockdown in March - June. Did it kill the spread ? Spain had an even tougher lockdown ... are you telling me this helped the Spanish ?

notevenat20 · 20/09/2020 07:20

What about if they come up with a new three word slogan? Surely that would be enough.

Heatheronthehill · 20/09/2020 07:36

According to the BBC article I read, it sounds as though they’re going to Stop households mixing and put a 10pm curfew on pubs. I assume that’ll be coming in from next week.

HopeClearwater · 20/09/2020 12:44

@justasking111 Parts of Madrid are about to be locked dorm again so you’re just wrong.
