How pissed up do you think Johnson and Cummings are right now, discussing our futures on a Saturday evening...

There is a plan to have 2 week lockdowns at various points in the winter as numbers peak. Will be announced next week

Johnson isn’t known for doing any work at a weekend!

...or at any other time of the week if we go by the amount of waffling he does.

We were shielding (me) and I wouldn’t comply.

I am forced to send dc to school in high risk area (we are already supposed to be licked down - no one is paying one bit of mind to it) as we had to fight so hard for an EHCP for dd that I can’t dereg.

That is where my major risk is coming from. Bubble is essentially every person my dc’s classmates cone in to contact with at hone and school. What difference would it make, having a coffee at one of the other dc’s mind houses in the garden?

Our area is not even an “area of concern” yet but considering cases are increasing by 50% each week, I think we will be sent into lockdown in two weeks and the rest of the country on 4.

Having said that... we are already isolating, just a week after DS went back to school his 300 strong school bubble has been sent home for 2 weeks.

I think it'll be very soon, I'm going to try and see my grandparents at a distance tomorrow before we are not allowed to.

Do you think it’ll come in as early as next week? I’m meant to be seeing my parents for the first time in months this coming weekend.

They are busy coming up with a catchy new slogan for it. No mingling, Shop your neighbours, stop your endless carping!

@Ellsbells12

People won't comply more people dying of suicide ! /now poverty Etc my friends little girl rushed to hospital on Tuesday breathing problems diagnosed with asthma and she cabt get a docs appointment to follow up .. that is why people are fed up and I don't think they will comply Boris has lied (maybe to keep spirits up ) but been worse .. whitty and valence are idiots too

The trouble is that if people don't follow the rules covid will spread more widely, covid patients will fill up hospital beds - it will get harder, not easier to get healthcare for non-covid illnesses.

Not all Greece places need quarantine

Well I could hear them discussing how they have to quarantine but don’t think they’ll be checked on and “can afford the fine anyway”. I think they were on Zakinthos.

The trouble with getting people to comply a second time is that hardly anyone caught it and hardly anyone knows anyone who caught it! Certainly that’s my feeling anecdotally. Nobody around me knows a single person who has had Covid, let alone died from it. This makes it feel very remote and abstract to a lot of people. It’s hard to see the point of running away from a virus that hasn’t touched most people’s lives anyway.

I read this just now about new restrictions coming from Monday in London

People in England who test positive for Covid-19 will have a “legal obligation” to self-isolate from 28 September, the government announced on Saturday.

London mayor Sadiq Khan has warned Boris Johnson that the English capital needs fresh Covid restrictions by Monday if it is to avoid a big spike in the spread of the virus, the Huffington Post reports.

Khan is also preparing to urge the public to work from home if they can do so, in a switch back to the message used by the government at the height of the lockdown.

I find that really surprising.

Locally, I know lots of people who had it very early in lockdown - local area had an early peak. 2 colleagues, 1 of whose husbands was very poorly. About 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 of the families in the class I taught, with 1 parent left significantly disabled. Whole department of DD's secondary school's teachers. And so on....

My mindset is that I'll consider their suggestions on their merit. They have failed spectacularly to keep up their side of the bargain. The social contract is strained. So I will continue to do what I can to reduce transmission but beyond that ..I'll take their ideas under advisement.

It's Khan who is calling for stricter measures in London. He's not exactly an arch-Tory, is he.

Where is Starmer in all this? What actions is he calling for?

If it becomes legal to self isolate if you test positive, punishable with a fine, surely this is going to mean that many people won't get a test. After all the law does not penalise for self isolating only if you have symptoms. So people can get symptoms, not self isolate and not go for a test all without breaking the law.

For most people £100 fine will be nothing compared to losing 2 weeks income anyway.

Thats true, especially as its so hard to get a test at the moment.

Why are they announcing all this at 11 pm on a Saturday night? Surely it could have waited til the morning seeing as it's not being implemented for another week at least.
