I very, very naively posted on here back in March saying a lockdown wasn't happening blah, blah...

Oh how wrong I was. Mumsnet was all over it.

What's your thoughts this time future predictors?

YABU - No Second Lockdown
YANBU - SECOND lockdown is aaaa' coming

How come it costs too much for the uk to support people through lockdown , whilst Germany and France somehow can afford to pay for extended furlough schemes?
Good point but you do remember all the furloughed bashing threads on here ?
I was furloughed because my job impacts the hospitality industry. I've been back full time since beginning of July but if they start having to close again I'm not sure what will happen .

mrshoho · 18/09/2020 08:18

If the test track and trace cannot meet demand then yes I could see a national lockdown at some point. We are having increasing numbers of local lockdowns now but it may get to a point where there are more areas in lockdown than not. Work and schools are to be prioritised to stay open but if a high enough number of staff are ill or isolating closures will happen anyway.

BabyLlamaZen · 18/09/2020 09:10

Yes but with school still happening.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 18/09/2020 09:20

I don't think it will happen the same as last time. I think schools will stay open and most businesses as long as they have strict measures in place for social distancing and masks.

Stinkyguineapig · 18/09/2020 09:56

The if at the beginning of that sentence is unnecessary. Test, track and trace cant meet demand now!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 18/09/2020 10:36

I’m not a government apologist but a big reason why the ‘demand’ can’t be met is that lots of people who don’t need a test are demanding one.

The government needs to tell schools and businesses to stop sending kids and staff to get tested when they don’t need it.

This is true, I mentioned this on another thread and people did not believe it, but I personally know of at least 7 people that have. I don’t mean people with “cold types” symptoms, it’s people with no symptoms at all, for peace of mind.

I'm not falling for that. The blame for this stops at the government. Here we are blaming ordinary people again. There will always be some people requesting a test unnecessarily but so few in numbers not to cause the chaos we have now. Schools ate following guidance to send children home with symptoms and families then have the choice of everyone isolating or obtain a negative test. With an average 3 child household this will happen with each child one after another. Schools and unions said all along this would happen but the government assured us the fabulous test track and trace would kick in to get people back to work and school after a negative test.
YukoandHiro · 18/09/2020 16:46

It's still the gov's fault for being unclear with schools and employers. Both are being risk averse and refusing re-entry without a test.

OneForMeToo · 18/09/2020 17:06

Of course we will. School bubbles are bursting like crazy.

Probably not the exact same lockdown however. I expect they will leave schools till last, pubs/gyms/hair dresses to be some of the first to close or be tighter regulated. Non essential travel to be demonised so not popping off to Blackpool for the weekend.

MarshaBradyo · 18/09/2020 17:08

They’ll be curtailment on socialising, pubs shut early but not much more (I hope)

Stinkyguineapig · 18/09/2020 17:46

I cant believe they didnt anticipate additional demand for testing come September when it was ok to go on holiday over the summer and then encourage everyone back to work/school, in close environments. (There was some official on tv acting as if it was a complete surprise....Confused)

MarshaBradyo · 18/09/2020 18:16

LBC - Professor medical biology two week lockdown more harmful than helpful. As brings economic damage but won’t do a great deal to lower spread of virus. Best you can do is flatten curve to make sure healthcare is there when you need it.

Paraphrasing interview

Legoandloldolls · 18/09/2020 18:24

Isnt there going to be a half term.two week lockdown? I imagine it wont be as strict as the first with education open. But maybe just curfew hours on shops and being out? Maybe back to only households mixing?

Who knows? I saw my mum.and best friend the weekend before the last lockdown. I was expecting it due the extremely strong hints. I think we are being prepped again for another one.

My opinion on lockdown seems irrelevant. But I didnt enjoy it

Mamawell · 20/09/2020 20:54

Hmm... I fear it's coming! Or Daily Mail scaremongering again?

@OneForMeToo and how will hairdressers survive this time after the last time when self employed didn’t get their money for ages and some weren’t even eligible? That’s the vast majority of hair dressers then when I highly doubt transmission is happening there. My personal hairdresser wears both mask and visor and is cleaning Every 5 minutes

OneForMeToo · 20/09/2020 21:30

My hair dresser was willing to break the rules for certain clients, only a face mask no extra ventilation or cleaning and clients don’t have to wear masks.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 20/09/2020 21:44

@OneForMeToo not fair to take them all with the same brush though

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 20/09/2020 21:44

*tar

Pixxie7 · 20/09/2020 22:09

I think it is inevitable eventually but I don’t think it will happen immediately due to the economy. However until they get the track and trace system working, which I think will hampered by the end of the furlough scheme combined with the new fines.

Treaclepie19 · 20/09/2020 22:16

I can't quite get my head around it. I may just be being stupid but if you look at the graph showing the deaths just before we went into lockdown and the deaths now it's similar and rising.
The graphs of what is expected means really we should be going into another lockdown now to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed.

WILTY43 · 20/09/2020 23:54

Wow, not good
OneForMeToo · 21/09/2020 07:03

Not saying they all where but a hell of a lot where if they had their clients information lots of things that should of been shit where happening behind locked doors. Tattoos, massage, beauty treatments if you knew the ‘right’ people.

JacobReesMogadishu · 21/09/2020 07:23

I think we will be banned from socialising in each other houses.

I’m not sure about closing pubs, gyms, hairdressers, etc. Because if they do that who is going to pay the wages? Will they extend furlough? Can they afford to? They keep saying the science shows transmissions isn’t happening in these areas (not sure I believe it). So why shut them down if that’s what they say?

JacobReesMogadishu · 21/09/2020 07:25

@OneForMeToo

Yeah, my daughter’s hairdressers, the staff don’t wear masks. Dd went in wearing one and they laughed and said she didn’t have to. So she took it off. Was there for 3 hours.

They’ll only have themselves to blame if they get shut down.
