Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

This is very shit as we all know it's mostly the twats out drinking that's done this.

FrolickingLemon · 17/09/2020 07:09

Looks like this thread is definitely now going to turn into a NE lockdown support thread then. My head is spinning and I'm trying to work out what I can and cant do. To be honest, we were doing pretty much fuck all. But I'm determined to still support my Mum who has cancer, while also trying to protect her. What an utter fucker of a situation. I've booked my online shop for next week, which I've always done, but I hope the online system doesn't go tits up again. I went through the fiasco of getting a test last week and can't be arsed with going through that again.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/09/2020 07:15

Yes we can support each other through this.

there will be panic buying today I imagine. No need though, they're just limiting social stuff!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/09/2020 07:16

Anyone think it could be from today?

Letseatgrandma · 17/09/2020 07:18

What is a local lockdown going to look like if there is one?! If schools are remaining open, universities will all be back and everyone is still going to work, what can’t we do?

fib11235 · 17/09/2020 07:19

On morning news, will happen at midnight tonight.
My wedding is due to be in Cornwall in 2 weeks with my sister who lives in Hexham as bridesmaid. Does anyone know if she’ll be allowed to come?

Nighttimefreedom · 17/09/2020 07:21

According to the article I read it will be pubs closing at 10 p.m. and no mixing of households outside school, University and work.

minou123 · 17/09/2020 07:21

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Anyone think it could be from today?
The media reports are stating they will announce the lockdown measures today, but it will start from midnight today.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/09/2020 07:26

I'm seeing a friend for her birthday tomorrow Sad

shesgonebatshitagain · 17/09/2020 07:43

Also can you drive somewhere on your own to collect goods you’ve paid for outside the area?

Plussizejumpsuit · 17/09/2020 07:45

@beansonbread I can't get anything anyway so won't do that but thanks. My only symptom of covid was loss of smell taste. This came on yesterday but has come back so I'm not too concerned.

But the pain from my sinuses is really bad. I'm taking cocodamol but you're only supposed to have it for 3 days. The paracetamol on its own isn't touching it. So I've just got a GP phone appointment to talk to my GP. It's 'my' GP who I see for ongoing stuff so hope he will know I'm not drug seeking! So with that and lockdown imminent not feeling great tbh.

beansonbread · 17/09/2020 07:46

I was just getting to the point where I felt quite comfortable being out and about. I was getting into a good routine with getting DS out to different places and now I feel like we need to be locked up again. My MIL is heartbroken at the thought of not seeing DS for weeks or even months again, it’s just so awful. And to make matters worse I know my DB and SIL won’t adhere to it at all and my DPs will be forced to have my nephews every day like normal which just pisses me off to no end!

Local lockdown hasn't officially been announced yet so can't say for sure, but they have continued in other lock down areas so it's very likely.
OutComeTheWolves · 17/09/2020 07:49

@Plussizejumpsuit I've been told that the availability isn't to do with the test sites it's linked to the processing afterwards. So you can still do that - just get a booking anywhere and then once you've got the confirmation drive straight to your nearest one. I know a number of people who've done this with the great park one.

A colleague yesterday couldn't get a test anywhere closer than Glasgow so he drove to great park on the off chance someone could help him. The people at the entrance told him to pull into a lay-by and just get a test for anywhere/any time then they'd let him in.

Obv don't do this just because a random off the internet tells you - but I've had friends advised to do this by 111 too so maybe check with them.

Vicbarbarkley · 17/09/2020 07:52

My dads in sheltered housing. I wonder if I will be allowed to visit him? I have missed this week as I feel dreadful, but in a couple of weeks time should be out and about again.
It will devastate him if I cant. I feel so guilty. I persuaded him it was the right thing to do because he wasnt coping at home, and now this!

OutComeTheWolves · 17/09/2020 07:53

I disagree. I think it's linked to the schools re-opening straight after the government encouraged everyone to go out to eat half price meals.
Plussizejumpsuit · 17/09/2020 07:54

So there was an article in the guardian about potential measures and on BBC both said measures likely to come in at midnight. Just makes me cross at the massive negative impact on women who will inevitably be the ones running around sorting childcare. What about the people who use family for childcare? I don't have my own children but do look after my niece (which is how I ended up here!).

My sister had a baby end of 2019 so I've been doing more of this as obviously a toddler and baby in lockdown were hard and she really struggled so as soon as I could I helped out. Just one personal example of how hard it us. I have friends with SEN children and my friend said her ds cried everyday because he couldn't see family. Sorry just rambling a bit. Think I need a coffee....

OutComeTheWolves · 17/09/2020 07:55

Do we think this will include using parents as childcare?
My little ones nursery is at full capacity, I can't book them in for any more days but I have to go into work.

beansonbread · 17/09/2020 07:56

It was Great Park we went to on Tuesday and then again yesterday. We had been told by the staff at Great Park to just get a test for anywhere on Tuesday and then come back with the QR but when we went back on Wednesday with a QR code for another site, they wouldn’t let us in. The QR scanner came up with an error to say we were at the wrong site and we couldn’t be admitted.

The guy at the first point of entrance was giving out the advice to use QR codes for other sites but once you got to the next entrance, there was no admittance without a Great Park QR code.

PennyDreadfuI · 17/09/2020 07:56

Morning all ☕

What a shit news notification I woke up to on my phone. From midnight tonight it is, then. Bollocking bollocks. Yes, this looks like it'll be a support thread.

I barely slept last night - the heavy 'rock' of worry in my stomach that I had back in March is back. As a pp said, back then all this seemed as something of a remove but this time it feels so much closer to home.

Surely with students coming back next week from all over the country/world and living cheek by jowl, numbers won't be able to go down anytime soon? I love the students being here, it makes Newcastle feel buzzy and vibrant, but perhaps it would've been wiser to put them off returning for a few weeks. Mind, whenever they come back the numbers will rise, won't they.

Is 7.56am too early for a drink?!

@OutComeTheWolves yes I've heard it's to do with processing too. My mum is a NHS research scientist and I have been wondering if she'll get called in like the little ships at some point! Grin

I literally can't get anything anywhere. I even tried during the night when I got up for many wees dut to the epic amount of water I'm drinking.

PennyDreadfuI · 17/09/2020 07:58

I agree. The pubs have been pretty busy since they reopened in July but the cases have only spiked recently. Kids being at school, EOTHO and people coming back from holidays is what's done it.

@nildesparandum

I am in Newcastle and have just found this thread.I in the age group for shielding and also have COPD and am honestly dreading having to self isolate again.I know it is necessary and if I get this virus it is curtains for me.Last time I was like a caged animal. I am not at least surprised this is happening again.Last week I was in Boots in the metro centre and there were three healthy looking young adults strolling through and not one of them was wearing a face covering.I mentioned this to a staff member and she told me they cannot force customers to wear one.The same thing happened in Fenwicks two weeks ago. The universities are opening for the new term and students are swarming around all over the place. This is to be expected I was young once, they are all eager to party and get to know each other. I hate this virus and can't see it going away
To be fair, I look fit and healthy (on the days I don't need my stick to walk anyway!) and I don't wear a mask because of a neurological condition.

I'm worried that I might be told to shield this time - I'm overweight and have an autoimmune condition (as well as the neurological one, joy). I don't know what I'll do it I am. You have my sympathies Flowers

Cases have only spiked recently because people are having to test even for "just" a cough.
