Government announcement at 10.30 tonight

Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

If you are in England @AlwaysLatte you probably shouldn’t have been doing sleepovers anyway as I assume they wouldn’t be SD

primabloodydonna · 09/09/2020 00:01

It also very much depends where you are in the country IMO. If I was in Bolton I'd be sticking rigidly to the rules.

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/09/2020 00:02

@kittensarecute

I'm done. Over it. I can't live with these restrictions anymore.
Cry me a fucking river. My parents and two of my kids have no choice.
MrsTravers · 09/09/2020 00:02

Thank you, @lyralalala - bad enough for us as a household for 6, will you have to draw straws before you go out 😂.

Does feel a bit harsh on my DC that they won't be able to have friends over to play anymore whilst smaller households will.

Lousy timing again too - just trying to arrange a small garden tea party for DC4's birthday the at the end of the month. DC3's was due to be the day after the schools closed in March.

Just very grateful I got to see my parents in August (first time this year) as no idea when that's going to happen again!

ineedaholidaynow · 09/09/2020 00:02

@cantkeepawayforever it seems to be a really hard concept for many people to understand, I’m not sure why.

Alwaysinpain · 09/09/2020 00:04

@primabloodydonna

Get it in your tiny minds that the best way to lessen the virus currently is to minimise contact - yes education is vital as is keeping the economy going but if everyone did their bit with social distancing/hand washing/mask wearing/not bending the rules to suit themselves - we wouldn’t be in this mess.

But I can go to work, teach in a school, go to a pub and go to a wedding, yes? Righto.

Wrongo. No weddings from Monday!

Also, going to work/school is essential! They are restricting everything else ie: social, non-essential gatherings of 6 or more to ENABLE schools & workplaces to stay open!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

ineedaholidaynow · 09/09/2020 00:04

But Bolton happened because people weren’t sticking to the rules, so surely the same could happen where you live if lots of people don’t stick to the rules

primabloodydonna · 09/09/2020 00:04

Wrongo. No weddings from Monday!

Erm no, you are wrongo. Weddings are exempt.

Alwaysinpain · 09/09/2020 00:05

No, they're not! It's a social gathering of more than 6!
ineedaholidaynow · 09/09/2020 00:05

Weddings are exempt, but I think there are rules with SD etc with weddings

SallySeven · 09/09/2020 00:06

If I was in Bolton I'd be getting the domestos out when the shopping came home!

The budget concept has been deemed too hard for Joe public to understand or have I missed them pushing it?

No, the wedding services are exempt - the receptions are not!!
Idontbelieveit12 · 09/09/2020 00:06

It specifically says with the exception of weddings and funerals

primabloodydonna · 09/09/2020 00:06

Yes they are. Read the news.

primabloodydonna · 09/09/2020 00:08

I understand the budget concept completely, but I have deemed seeing my family an acceptable way to spend that budget given I'm not going out to work and avoid shops.

I wouldn't go to a rave.

queenjaneappro · 09/09/2020 00:08

@cantkeepawayforever I understand the concept thanks. I was making a J O K E - are you familiar with the concept of jokes?

Seems to be thought too hard. Absolutely no idea why.

I suppose the only issue is that some people might decide that they should maximise their risk budget completely, all the time, whereas of course the concept relies on the fact that some -health workers, teachers etc - will be maxing out the budget all the time on essential things while others are more parsimonious and don't 'spend' everything every day.

primabloodydonna · 09/09/2020 00:11

None of the doctors I know are paying the blindest bit of attention to SD by the way.

cantkeepawayforever · 09/09/2020 00:12

As a clinically vulnerable teacher, spending far more risk budget than i have on a daily basis because I believe education is critically important (and therefore isolate myself entirely the rest of the time), yes, I understand jokes BUT forgive me if i don't find yours particularly hilarious.

jessstan2 · 09/09/2020 00:13

Who cares, honestly? I think most people have become immune to announcements.

cantkeepawayforever · 09/09/2020 00:13

How big do the cases and deaths numbers need to become before people start noticing them again, do you think?
Heffalooomia · 09/09/2020 00:16

The budget concept has been deemed too hard
🤔 I guess the 'average' is to think in absolute terms, either everyone's allowed to do or no one's allowed to do it....so if it's understood that some people are allowed to spend more of their budget than others there will be complaints that it's unfair, expecting us to grasp the reasons behind the weighting of different people's expenditures would be just making it harder to get everyone on the same page
It's very difficult to get a complex and urgent message out to a mass audience ☹️

janetmendoza · 09/09/2020 00:17

primabloodydonna as her name suggests is exceptionally important. To herself anyway.

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2020 00:18

I think the real barometer is whether Dominic Cummings and his family take a road trip north. If that happens, we know we are all proper fucked again.

Heffalooomia · 09/09/2020 00:19

I think it's not so much that people don't have the intelligence to grasp things more that for a message to be effective it needs to be grasped in a similar way by everyone
Because the population contains a range of intellectual types and capacities it's very difficult to design a message that everyone gets that which is also effective
