Yep, a child is ds's class is having a party this weekend. They are Year 1. I declined even before we became symptomatic. I'll-advised at best to be having a party. Especially in greater Manchester Hmm

SistemaAddict · 08/09/2020 13:57

Ill-advised. Silly phone.

Perihelion · 08/09/2020 14:09

176 positive tests in Scotland, with over 90 in Glasgow.
3 deaths, highest since end of June.

Growgrassgreen · 08/09/2020 14:42

The other issue with the teen party my dd has been invited to (and declined) is it's a sixth form group and kids from several different sixth forms have been invited too 😬.

Further action in Bolton! Glad that the government have finally decided to take action

Absolutely. Young people in other areas need to know this too.
NotAGuineaPigForBoris · 08/09/2020 15:44

Are today's new case figures for UK out yet?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/09/2020 15:44

It’s usually about 4.30 I think.

boys3 · 08/09/2020 15:51

BJ press conference tomorrow / later this week?? As requesting questions from the public

Augustbreeze · 08/09/2020 15:58

Ooo @boys3!

boys3 · 08/09/2020 16:05

Looks like another 2094 cases added in England before the .... started. Not great but better than the 2500 mark over the previous couple of days

cathyandclare · 08/09/2020 16:10

And 30 deaths, which is higher than they have been- I've not yet dug in to when they happened and in which setting

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/09/2020 16:10

I briefly caught around 2500; hope just a glitch.

Goldistheanswer · 08/09/2020 16:11

Just read the official figures for 8/9/20 and it states 2948 new cases.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/09/2020 16:11

No, 2094 now.

At least not nearly 3000; however we were Shockat over 1000 not so long ago. Sad

sunseekin · 08/09/2020 16:12

Still showing 2948 for me! 🤷‍♀️ Can see the Northern Ireland message.

Goldistheanswer · 08/09/2020 16:12

Sorry, I posted too soon but I can’t do a link. It’s on the Gov.uk website though.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/09/2020 16:13

Cross post gold ShockShock

ancientgran · 08/09/2020 16:13

Goldistheanswer I saw that but wonder if it is a mistake, it is exactly the same as yesterday isn't it?

Goldistheanswer · 08/09/2020 16:14

Sky news just showing 2420 cases but this doesn’t include Northern Ireland as they’re delayed.

NotAGuineaPigForBoris · 08/09/2020 16:15

sky news : 2420 excluding NI

cathyandclare · 08/09/2020 16:15

Yes it's updated now 2420, so better than the last couple of days

Beebityboo · 08/09/2020 16:16

30 deaths is the highest I've seen it in a while Sad.

ancientgran · 08/09/2020 16:16

On the govt website the Uk total says 2948 but if you add up the totals for the 4 nations it is 2420.

FingonTheValiant · 08/09/2020 16:17

Bit late for the question but somebody asked about school closures in France and Spain. The news yesterday reported 28 school closures and 262 class closures. The kids have been back since the 1st, teachers since the 31st (that’s the same for all schools nationwide). So not too many closures yet. However reports suggest a large number of children are out for testing (like mine). They’re looking at reducing the isolation time from 14 days to 5-8 to get children back into school faster, which shows a certain lack of joined up thinking for a virus that is established to incubate up to 14 days... everyone assumes this is the economy speaking.

Also Macron has allegedly softened his stance to «we can’t rule out another general lockdown».

And on the subject of transparents masks: all nursery school teachers are required to wear them here (children spend 3 years in nursery, up to equivalent of year 1. Year 2 is the beginning of primary school). They argue that speech and language development is crucial at that age, so they need to be able to see their mouths. I agree entirely.

DH and I are both language teachers and I’m looking into buying some. It’s been nonsensical trying to teach pronunciation when they can’t see my mouth.
