Given the fact some people remain completely asymptomatic, and others have mild, atypical symptoms, that seems like a silly question. How are we supposed to know how many people we know who have had it? I know 4 people who are very likely to have had it, and one sibling and her entire family who definitely had it, because they have antibodies, but only one of them actually got noticeably ill with it, and that was without any of the symptoms you are told specifically to look out for except a temperature. Her main symptom was a killer headache. The rest of the family either appeared to have seasonal colds (the usual runny nose, sore throat sort), or had no symptoms whatsoever.

3 ‘mild’ requiring multiple paramedic visits and one hospital stay

2 deaths

ClumsyAnnabel · 02/09/2020 09:57

None officially, several people who think they had it but didn't get tested not least as was in March when tests were thin on the ground.

MaMisled · 02/09/2020 10:05

I know 2 who ended up in ICU on cpap machines ,both age 56, thankfully ok, one of those works in care and 3 of her co.lleagues also in ICU aged 30 to 58 plus 12 elderly deaths. I know 4 young people (30s and 40s) with mild cases.

  1. We all stayed in and shopped online.
Porcupineinwaiting · 02/09/2020 10:10

@caringcarer what, even in February and March? That was very prescient of you.

Ginorwine30 · 02/09/2020 10:16

5, including myself and DP. All recovered and back to normal. The eldest one was 57 and he felt very ill for 10 days but did not require hospital treatment.

Bubblemonkey · 02/09/2020 10:20

My sister had it at the end of April/early May. She’s only just off the codeine for chest pain from it.

My DS’s friend had a mild case and the sister of DH’s work colleague who is a nurse had it.

Those are the only ones I know of.

TeeBee · 02/09/2020 10:58

One death (v elderly man, otherwise quite fit, refused any treatment)

One middle aged very overweight woman who caught it at a night before lockdown party in a pub (eejit). She was very ill at home, but did not need hospitalisation, more like having flu. Better now.

Two with mild symptoms, both frontline NHS workers, both middle-aged fit women.

The others were symptomless family members of the above people who tested positive.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/09/2020 11:20

3 mild confirmed cases
But loads of people In December and January reporting a ‘nasty bug’- high temp coughing feeling like crap / never been so ill but didn’t need medical attention

Ontopofthesunset · 02/09/2020 11:28

All the people I know were ill in March/April, before lockdown or at the beginning of it. I live in London and people were working and going out with friends in early March - public transport, pubs. I caught it before lockdown, even though I had reduced social activities and trips in the weeks before. Anecdotally loads more people than the ones I know (all their friends etc) had it around the same time in our local area, some from a choir, some from parties before lockdown, some from church and the gym etc. So staying in only worked if it wasn't already circulating in your area in early March.

NerrSnerr · 02/09/2020 11:40

I know about 10. One ended up in ICU but is back at work now (care home manager). 2 immediate colleagues and a few more in adjoining services. My friend is currently self isolating as her MIL has it.

Jontysmum · 03/09/2020 17:50
  1. Me. I've got it now
Porcupineinwaiting · 03/09/2020 17:51

Sorry to hear that Jonty. You ok?

Jontysmum · 03/09/2020 18:04

Yes I'm good thanks. Bit of a cold but not as bad as flu

Cloudburstagain · 03/09/2020 18:19

Two diagnosed and in hospital. One of whom died.

ElectiveAffinities · 03/09/2020 19:08

9 that I can think of immediately. Two of them died. One is still suffering badly from ‘long Covid’.

I know of two other people who are friends-of-friends and sadly one of them also died. So....quite a lot, I’m sorry to say.

bengalcat · 03/09/2020 19:09

0 friends and family .

Sandyjag · 03/09/2020 19:11

Prob about 10 untested but with classic symptoms and timing, plus at least 3 confirmed including 2 members of extended family who sadly died.

Iamagree · 03/09/2020 19:35

nine.
All fairly healthy ,age range 11 to early fifties. Two who have fatigue and reduced lung function 3- 4 months on. No-one overweight or with underlying conditions, all count themselves lucky and despair of those minimising it.
