I know 4 who've had positive tests, 2 were quite unwell, like a bad case of 'just' flu. Two were asymptomatic but one was picked up on a routine test, the other was tested because her husband had it. I know about 6 people who've 'definitely' had it, 4 were never tested and 2 tested negative. The husband of one of the unwell positives was tested several times, always negative and no symptoms.

I don't know anyone who's died. Nor do I know anyone who knows anyone who's died. Which I think is encouraging as I volunteer (or used to) among the elderly and people with disabilities, so I know, or know of, a good few hundred people I would expect to be vulnerable.

MuffinHead · 31/08/2020 13:30

2 for sure. 1 passed away due to it. The other had no symptoms and had been living in her family home with her partner and 2 kids, who I guess also had it.

KitchenRollHuggers · 31/08/2020 13:41

2 adults. 1 died
4 children

Personally, 0. DP knows somebody through work who died and some friends of my brother had it mildly.

Crumpetswithbutter · 31/08/2020 13:53

The brother of my husband's colleague died from it (32 years old, no health conditions, so sad). They were in one of the first clusters in the country. My husband's cousin from a completely different area also died from it, in his sixties, smoker, but no other conditions. One of my relatives has just tested positive (she's in a different country) and her husband tested negative, but he was the one with symptoms, so that was unexpected. And I have a work colleague (another country again) who was in hospital with it ( mid-30s woman) but back at work now. But we have family and acquaintances across several countries, so I think it's not expected that we'd have heard of a number of cases.

MNOverinvestor · 31/08/2020 13:53

Probably about six, one was on a ventilator for a while and is recovering slowly, another avoided hospital but - having previously been 50 and very energetic/healthy is now struggling to stay out of bed for more than three hours a day...

yarncakes · 31/08/2020 14:33
  1. All of them survived, including one who had more than 3 comorbidities.
makingbacon · 31/08/2020 14:51

1!

roarfeckingroarr · 31/08/2020 14:53

@DancingCatGif

"It's hard to empathise with the hysteria because I know no one who has been seriously ill or died, even indirectly. I live in London!"

50,000 people have died.

It's hardly hysteria, is it?

How many of those are deaths because of CV, rather then deaths recorded where the patient may have also had the virus? Our figures are massively inflated.

I've been as close to normal as possible all the way through despite being pregnant. It all seems out of proportion and it's absolutely bollocksed up the economy.

roarfeckingroarr · 31/08/2020 15:05

@elenacampana what I meant is that it's hard to feel the fear and support all the restrictions and damage to the economy, tax increases to come etc when it seems so abstract

BatShite · 31/08/2020 15:05

2 confirmed cases (one died). And Me and DH (and assuming the rest of household) I think..unless we just have antibodies randomly which might be the case apparently. We did have a weird illness months back though that fits all the symptoms for covid..and my taste is not 100% back even now. So I assume we have the antibodies because we had it.

BatShite · 31/08/2020 15:06

Should maybe add, the one who 'died of covid'..I think it was more a case of dying WITH covid tbh. He had many many medical issues and his family says it was a stroke that took him in the end, but because he had a positive covid test, it was what it was put down to.

elenacampana · 31/08/2020 15:10

Well it isn’t abstract and I can tell you that because I’ve got it right now and so has my heavily pregnant sister, who has it badly. We don’t suspect we have it, we’ve tested positive. The restrictions are necessary are you’ll just have to deal with them regardless of your own lived experience.

elenacampana · 31/08/2020 15:11

@roarfeckingroarr - see above.

EstuaryBird · 31/08/2020 15:12

I know 4. All in my age group (mid sixties).

2 died - one was recovering in hospital from minor op at start of outbreak and caught it there, before lockdown, took a while before anyone realised what it was. Her husband, who was very fit with no underlying condition, died very quickly of it.

The other 2 recovered but one is still not ‘right’.

MrsVeryTired · 31/08/2020 15:17

2 confirmed, 1 mild case, the other quite bad but not hospitalised, flu-like and lost lots of weight, still fatigued 2 months after.

MrsVeryTired · 31/08/2020 15:17

Mild one mid 40's, more severe 50, but very fit before.

Changeagain1 · 31/08/2020 15:27

I do know of one person who died - but he was already very ill with a stroke - he died of the stroke but happened to have positive Covid which didn’t cause the stroke.
But he was counted as a Covid number .

lampshadery · 31/08/2020 15:36

0 personally. Know of 2.

Spinakker · 31/08/2020 15:42

This thread is quite frightening..

roarfeckingroarr · 31/08/2020 15:56

@elenacampana sorry to hear that. I hope you both recover well and soon.

Flymetothetoon · 31/08/2020 15:56

2 , one of whom died from it

happytoday73 · 31/08/2020 16:36

1 friend (hospitalised but avoided ventilator)
1 work colleague... Not hospitalised but pretty sick at beginning of April.. Positive antibody test.
3 work colleagues lost elderly relatives.. In care homes.
My parents neighbours went on holiday with another couple... Came back at start of lock down... Both men got covid, hospitalised and past away within 2 weeks of each other....
