If you wear your mask under your nose...

WHY??

Don't you realise the same air comes out, and you might as well not bother.
Just been shopping and the amount of masks under noses is unbelievable. I just don't get it!? If I see someone with no mask at all I assume they can't wear one for some reason. But under the nose?? I'm desperate to just ask someone but don't want to risk getting punched in the face 😬

Can anyone shed some light on this? Do they not know that it's the same air coming out as their mouth air?

Just had a thought. Maybe it's a sign of protest.

I'd rather they wore it under their nose than got fed up and ditched it altogether.

premiumshoes · 22/08/2020 11:39

People don't give a fuck. That's why.

Clive222 · 22/08/2020 11:40

It’s down to a failure of intelligence

Northernsoullover · 22/08/2020 11:40

i think its a two fingers up to the rest of us when people do that. I could be wrong but I can't see the reason why you would do that.
I guess its better to have one orifice covered than none though.

MiraWard77 · 22/08/2020 11:41

Always makes me think of this.

I might get it printed on a mask, then look pointedly at people who do it.

SilkCashmere · 22/08/2020 11:46

I assume these people are not very bright or think rules of life don't apply to these people in every way, they scream danger to me and fI find it a handy indicator of who to avoid.

TaxTheRatFarms · 22/08/2020 11:49

I saw a man wearing his mask under his nose. Then watched as he pulled it down all the way, licked his finger and picked up a lottery ticket.

Licked his finger.
Licked it.

I think some people lack common sense and honestly believe a mask over mouth is enough. At was at hospital few weeks ago and staff members were walking in with them hanging off their wrists!

MrsMayo · 22/08/2020 11:56

I was shopping in a supermarket yesterday and someone was wearing one around their neck. Is that in case they see the police in there and can just pull it up?

I understand some people can't wear them.

Uhoh2020 · 22/08/2020 11:59

Thats why they are pointless because they arent worn properly. I include myself in that, i do wear it over the nose but I'm regularly touching and messing with it when it's riding up my nose or I'm feeling hot and sweaty

Watto1 · 22/08/2020 12:03

I actually saw someone wearing one on their head in Tamworth services . No idea what good she thought it was doing there! It looked like an old fashioned knotted handkerchief sunhat!

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/08/2020 12:08

Can go through eyes anyway!!

Daysofpearlyspencer · 22/08/2020 12:11

Man in Tesco took his mask off to cough, (yes cough) right next to me. Then put his mask back on.

a women pronounced very loudly, in same tesco, that she and her family were mask exempt. Fair enough, but then didn't bother cleaning hands or trolley. The whole family TBH looked in the at risk group as well.

Bewareoftheblob · 22/08/2020 12:11

No one gives a shit any more; enforcing masks is just the government being seen to be doing something and most people only wear one because they have to.

I think you're right though, having your nose out is a not-so-subtle fuck you.

I doubt much thinking is going on in the brain of that case.

Most people seem to be law abiding and sensible on the whole.

happysunr1se · 22/08/2020 12:17

I think a lot of people have realised they have bad breath so if they put their nose in the mask as well then they have to smell their own breath.
It happened to me when I was commuting back from work (1 hour train trip) unfortunately with no drink.

As a lot of dentists aren't open for routine hygiene appointments to get descale, then for some people where no amount of brushing will get rid they will have to live with it.

LucyLeak · 22/08/2020 12:23

I thought I had my mask on properly in the supermarket recently until I got to the self service checkout, there was this CovIdiot looking back at me with her nose out!!! The shame! I've started to twist the strap over now before I hook them around my ears for a better fit.

BlueSlice · 22/08/2020 12:23

But not out of eyes @OverTheRainbow88 !

UnaCorda · 22/08/2020 12:29

I confess to wearing a mask under my nose a few times last week. It was so hot and humid before the weather broke I couldn't bear the extra heat of my breath on my face. However, I was on a virtually empty train well over two metres (more like 20) from the nearest person.

I think it's partly the poorly explained and contradictory official information which people take as permission to interpret the advice however they wish, or believe conspiracy theories or just make things up.

But more than that I think there is a growing culture of selfishness, and many people just don't care about putting others at risk. It's not just Covid, these are probably the same people who drop litter, leave public toilets in a filthy state, push other people's kids out of the way in queues, park in disabled bays - we've all seen examples of this kind of thing and people who just shrug or swear if you try to say anything. A big minority of the population don't believe they have any responsibility towards other people, especially strangers, so why would they bother to wear masks?

It's a very strange time, over sensitive people too expecting extraordinary empathy and egg shell walking, overburdening people.

Wearing it under their nose is as effective as ditching it altogether.

I’m adding people who litter to your list.

It is because they are thick.
