If you wear your mask under your nose...

WHY??

Don't you realise the same air comes out, and you might as well not bother.
Just been shopping and the amount of masks under noses is unbelievable. I just don't get it!? If I see someone with no mask at all I assume they can't wear one for some reason. But under the nose?? I'm desperate to just ask someone but don't want to risk getting punched in the face 😬

Can anyone shed some light on this? Do they not know that it's the same air coming out as their mouth air?

Why don't you mind your own business OP. Are you going to police how often people wash them, where they store them when not in use etc.?

StopGo · 22/08/2020 15:45

At my local hospital this week the worst under nose offenders were the medical staff.

SilkCashmere · 22/08/2020 15:46

putting it under their nose to stop them being hot and sweaty

There you have it, these people realise we are all hot and sweaty under our masks too?

Itchy, I had a drip of sweat once on my nose. I have had itchy stray hair get trapped under the mask.

Is it law abiding to pay half your tax?

smellyhouseelf · 22/08/2020 15:51

@OLGADEEPOLGA

Hilarious. I'm not policing anyone. I'm just asking a question.

Surely no one wears one except where they absolutely have to - just to comply with these clowns we have running the country.

Or do people still exist who think they are more than Government propaganda?

Presumably they're only wearing them because they know they're meant to in shops and aren't thinking about healthy and safety reasons.

This is absolutely true. People are wearing them because they have to, not because they see any benefit. Most people don't give a shit about catching C19, and don't think it's dangerous. If you think that then why on earth would you happily wear a mask?

Paranoidmarvin · 22/08/2020 16:06

As a menopausal women. My core temperature is higher now. And I’m having hot flushes. I cannot tell u how many times I have nearly fainted when wearing my mask. This is due to over heating. I’m trying I really am. But I’m struggling. Sometimes when no one is around I pull it down under my nose so the hot air can get out.

Is it a prefect idea. No it’s not. But I can only sit on the floor too many time’s due to nearly fainting.

Noextremes2017 · 22/08/2020 16:07

But hey there is good money to be made in sanitizer and masks - however they are worn.
Ineos for example owned by billionaire Brexiteer and Monaco resident Jim Ratcliffe are making good money on sanitizer. The joke where they make it is that the label on the bottle costs more than the contents. They’ll be very happy with Johnson & Co.

Because tax is same as masks Hmm.

Not even sure about the legality in cinemas or museums as was passed after parliament had closed.

profpoopsnagle · 22/08/2020 16:11

I think anyone who wanted to wear a mask and felt that it offered them and/or others protection was doing that well before they became mandatory.

From observation in my town, most people (@90%) were happy not to wear a mask and accept any risks. I think if the rule was overturned tomorrow, we'd see a return to that amount.

The majority of people are wearing them because they have to- they are only wearing them in the places they need to. They are not that bothered about correct wearing, layers, filters, correct handling, washing them, changing them when they are damp, etiquette etc.

TimeForLunch · 22/08/2020 16:16

As has already been said, I should imagine people wearing masks like that are only wearing them because they have to, not because they believe masks are in any way helpful.

cologne4711 · 22/08/2020 16:45

I want to make clear that I wear a mask correctly covering nose and mouth. But I wonder if there are people like me, who breathe through their mouth (yes I know we are weird) and think they don't need to cover their nose because of that? They appear to have forgotten that they can still sneeze though!

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 22/08/2020 16:52

I need to take it down for a minute or two, so I can keep wearing it properly for longer. I can cope with the headaches, steaming glasses, disorientation etc. But once I get faint /dizzy there are three options ... keep at it and fall over, take a few proper breaths through my noise or fuck off outside if I can. Mostly I go for option 3 tbh.

Actually option 4 is my favourite, avoid places that need them as much as possible.

Everysinglebloodytime · 22/08/2020 17:04

Reminds me of my nan who used to hold the seatbelt across her but not plug it in when she was a passenger in a car Confused

Notredamn · 22/08/2020 18:09

I think people pull them down in between being in shops so they can breathe and then simply forget to pull it back up again on entering another shop.
That's my experience anyway. I really struggle in masks. If people want to think I'm signalling 'fuck you' for the few seconds I forget to pull it back up, then fuck it. They might want to think why such a rebel would even wear one at all, though. Wouldn't not wearing one be more of a statement?

smellyhouseelf · 22/08/2020 18:13

@Everysinglebloodytime

Omg I'd totally forgotten my Nan used to do the same.

I sometimes pull my mask under my nose for a brief period because if I wear a mask for a long while I start to get short of breath and panicky. I'll pull it under my nose for half a minute or so to gather myself before pulling it back on. I try and do it in a part of the shop that's not busy to avoid nosy people staring and tutting.

I know that makes my mask temporarily ineffective but I'd rather have it off my nose for a short time to get my breath back than take it off entirely.

AntiHop · 22/08/2020 18:27

I've politely asked many people in close proximity to me on public transport to put their masks on properly. They have all obliged.

damselindedress · 22/08/2020 18:49

I have to be honest I do this sometimes for short periods when I can't breath properly in it. Although always have it fully on if anywhere near people. I've had the virus so don't see how I could spread it this way although I still follow the rules to be considerate.

lljkk · 22/08/2020 21:01

I haven't tried it but suspect it's easier to breathe with it off the nose. It doesn't feel weird even if it looks funny. I often feel like my nose is feeling squished & usually switched to mouth breathing when mine is on.

RaspberryRuff · 22/08/2020 21:06

This is me. Not sure I want to share how often I reuse them before either throwing them away or washing them. It certainly isn’t every day. And I ain’t using filters in them either. It’s just box ticking as far as I’m concerned

My gran used to do this too!

To be fair I only ever go to the shops in them. I’m not wearing them solidly for days on end.
Nochangeplease · 22/08/2020 21:51

I admit to doing this. I do understand how ineffective it is but sometimes it’s either that or take it off completely as I’m struggling to breathe, extremely hot and my glasses steam up.
I fully understand the correct way to wear a mask but honestly I touch my mask about 10 times a minute so it’s absolutely pointless me wearing it. I can’t not touch it. It drives me crazy. I honestly feel like it’s doing more harm than good

Luckily I’ve never needed to sneeze whilst wearing it but unless I had a spare, I probably would take it off and sneeze into my arm. That’s probably safer all around (and more pleasant for me) as the mask wouldn’t trap everything from a sneeze.
