If you wear your mask under your nose...

WHY??

Don't you realise the same air comes out, and you might as well not bother.
Just been shopping and the amount of masks under noses is unbelievable. I just don't get it!? If I see someone with no mask at all I assume they can't wear one for some reason. But under the nose?? I'm desperate to just ask someone but don't want to risk getting punched in the face 😬

Can anyone shed some light on this? Do they not know that it's the same air coming out as their mouth air?

I should imagine people wearing masks like that are only wearing them because they have to

I see people wearing their mask off nose on mouth just walking around outside. Also back in April before masks were required at all, that was in Tesco. It's laziness and half an effort thinking, I reckon.

onlinelinda · 23/08/2020 07:02

As someone with lung disease it astonishes me how many people claim masks affect their breathing. It doesn't affect mine.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/08/2020 07:30

The people I see doing well this tend to be mostly outside in-between shops. I just assume that are not bothering to take them right off but want to breathe a bit easier until they go inside again.

Oct18mummy · 23/08/2020 07:32

It’s like the pp meme. I see it exactly the same would you have your dick hanging out of your pants?? Honestly some people don’t have a clue.

yawnsvillex · 23/08/2020 07:47

@smellyhouseelf I think it is my business if they're breathing near me.

HOW VERY DARE PEOPLE BREATHE!

minnieok · 23/08/2020 07:50

It's the chin warmers that make me giggle, why?

smellyhouseelf · 23/08/2020 08:13

@yawnsvillex

As I explained earlier, I have no problem with them breathing near me. But when I see people wearing their masks like this, it makes me wonder why.

Are we not allowed to be curious about things?

OP posts:
yawnsvillex · 23/08/2020 08:24

You don't come across as curious @smellyhouseelf

You just come across as part of the mask police and following with blind obedience

Notredamn · 23/08/2020 08:26

@minnieok I pull mine down to my chin to save me from rummaging round for it in my bag when I need it again. I can just pull it up when I go in a shop. It's fairly obvious!

Namechangr9000 · 23/08/2020 08:29

I see a lot of people on the train with masks hanging off their ears, under their chin, or on the seat next to them. I assume (rightly or wrongly) that they have them simply to put on in case anyone "official" challenged them?

smellyhouseelf · 23/08/2020 09:08

@yawnsvillex

Nope, definitely not interested in being the mask police 😂. Everyone I know in real life wears them properly when I've seen them. So I asked on here in case there were any under the nose wearers who could answer.

I hate the mask too but wear it in shops/shopping centres/buses/crowded areas because the scientific advice is that we're all safer the more we wear them. I wear it properly because otherwise I might as well not bother. And I want to take what precautions I can to ensure I don't catch or spread Covid 19. If you call that blind obedience then I'm ok with that.

If others choose not to wear them, or not to wear them properly, that's entirely up to them, I just didn't know why and wanted to ask.

Orchidsindoors · 23/08/2020 11:37

Do you mean in the shops or out of the shops? Because yesterday after being indoors in shops and precincts, as I walked outside, where I dont need one, I did pull it down to breath better. I'm sure a lot of people dk this.

smellyhouseelf · 23/08/2020 13:53

I mean in shops/on buses/trains etc

@Nochangeplease

Really!? You would take it off to sneeze? I think I would sneeze into my arm but keep the mask on. Otherwise (I would assume) any germs I might be carrying would spread further. It's more important for me to consider the spread of the virus than my own comfort. There have been times when I've really been too hot and struggled, so I've simply gone outside and taken the mask off to have a breather.

Masks are uncomfortable for everyone I think. Maybe if everyone made more of an effort we won't have to keep wearing them for too long 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
Nochangeplease · 23/08/2020 14:24

Yes I would. Unless I had a spare. I’m not going to sneeze into the mask and continue to walk around with it pressed against my face just because the government have decided I should.
I personally do not believe mask use is beneficial at all, not unless everyone is wearing proper surgical ones and not touching them at all so I am only doing it because I have to.
Often in shops I’ll pull it down completely if it’s fairly empty and pull it up if I’m going near other people just out of respect for others.

You say maybe if everyone made an effort we wouldn’t have to wear them for much longer but numbers were the lowest they’d ever been when masks were made compulsory so I don’t think that logic stands.

Nochangeplease · 23/08/2020 14:26

I actually find it astonishing how conditioned people become. Can you imagine if 6 months ago someone told you you would be sneezing into a mask and continuing to walk around with it on your face 😂 obviously, the solution is to have a spare of course. But still, it beggars belief that people think this is even an option.

smellyhouseelf · 23/08/2020 14:38

I think carrying spares would be a good idea for everyone. Although I tend to dry sneeze so wouldn't find it uncomfortable to wear a mask after a sneeze. I would change it if I had a spare but I'm not scared of having my own sneeze germs on my own face.

The numbers were low at the point they were made compulsory because everyone had been in lockdown or 2 meters away from each other. Masks were introduced to allow businesses to reopen 'safely' .

I would do the same OP, I guess we just have to accept various people have different standards. Confused

littlepeas · 23/08/2020 15:30

Dh told me one of his colleagues removed her mask to sneeze!

littlepeas · 23/08/2020 15:30

Should have read the whole thread! I see she’s not the only culprit!

GreyGardens88 · 23/08/2020 15:32

There was a man on the tube the other day with his mask on his chin whilst coughing away

RaspberryRuff · 23/08/2020 15:33

I felt a sneeze coming the other day in the supermarket, it was quite stressful thinking what to do! I sneezed into the mask in the end. It was a dry one thankfully!

EmMac7 · 23/08/2020 17:32

If you do this your a moron. The inside of the nose has recently been identified as the key site of entry for C19:

“Scientists at Johns Hopkins Medicine, experimenting with a small number of human cell samples, report that the “hook” of cells used by SARS-CoV-2 to latch onto and infect cells is up to 700 times more prevalent in the olfactory supporting cells lining the inside of the upper part of the nose than in the lining cells of the rest of the nose and windpipe that leads to the lungs.”

I'm afraid that there are plenty of people on public transport wearing their masks improperly.
bigmamama · 23/08/2020 17:38

It's because masks are absolutely fucking pointless and Covidiots like to moan about everything so I do it on purpose. Yes I believe in the conspiracy theories and while I'm here I might aswell tell yall that I'm on holiday in Turkey Shock.
Let the lynching begin.
I'm also not thick, at risk or have been ill or in contact with anyone who has been etc.
Let the lynching begin ....
