Article from oxford professor summarising new data that it's safe for children to be in school. Great pre September reading!

Plenty of posters recently saying they work in a school ... In which case you know what your school plans are and should be aware what SLT messages are just coming out depending upon your region.

latticechaos · 20/08/2020 17:41

Yes, I have been to the dentist this week . I know most people are meeting from more than one other household - maybe you aren’t.

Well you'll know how different they are from January then.

My dentist takes temp outside, straight into dentist room, full PPE (more than normal), stands other side of room, no aerosol-generating procedures...

Restaurants are leave contact details, paper menus, sanitiser, order by app, max six, spacing between table...

On what planet is that 'normal'???

FrippEnos · 20/08/2020 17:55

Charliescar

Once agian lets break this down for the stupid amounst us.

So children miss out on the biggest part of their young lives?

Other than people with the anti teacher agenda, who is actually saying this?

It’s ridiculous, kids have been forgotten.

Kids have been forgotten by many for years, including those that have just started banging on about their MH. Some of us have known this and been talking about this for years.

Everything else seems to have returned to normal apart from schools.

I'm not going to go in to this in depth but you are wrong, masks in shops, hairdressers, no air con ion offices, lots of people still working from home. etc. etc.

In my city people are carrying on as if their was no pandemic , no social distancing, sitting and standing so close in bars and restaurants 🤨.

And look at the rise in numbers.

"In fact , I think some of the your family people are really trying with social distancing, I know my 12 year old .*

No idea, what this means.

We can’t keep schools shut whilst everything else is back to normal

Again its the anti teacher wankers that are saying this.

it’s just a greedy society that wants to have money and forget kids.

Yep, so why are you supporting their view?

If people don’t want to send your kids back then don’t

easier said than done

teachers if you are worried find a different job where you won’t have to interact with people

Again which teachers have said that they won't go back? Just more anti teacher BS.

One wonders if the monumentally stupid posts are designed to get the thread title in active where people might see it.

I am starting to believe so.

But I am also doubting the amount of "I work in a school" statements.

Emmememe · 20/08/2020 18:27

I’m not a teacher. However I am inclined to listen to them on issues they know far more about than me. Such as school settings.

FlySheMust · 20/08/2020 18:36

Opinions are only valid when they have some basis in evidence. Opinions based on lies are just more lies.

In some people's opinion the earth is flat. It isn't and they are stupid for thinking so.

Stupid opinions are still just stupid.

Uhoh2020 · 20/08/2020 18:46

Nothing is back to normal including schools!
AND BEFORE ANYONE BITES MY HEAD OFF I AM NOT SAYING WHAT SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CHANGE NOW MAKE THEM RISK FREE JUST TO CLARIFY AND BE CLEAR THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM SAYING!
My youngest ds (was reception) went back in June, what he went back too was nothing like what he left in March nothing much is changing for him in terms of July to September or for the foreseeable.
My eldest is in high school I am yet to hear the finer details from them what school will be like for him. Im not naive to think there will be that much different than before but it certainly won't be the same as what he left in March.

In conclusion there's no such thing as normal anymore

I'd be interested to know what deniers make of this warning from the WHO that young people are likely to be driving the spread.

askmehowiknow · 20/08/2020 19:17

@Piggywaspushed

How many posters have wholeheartedly supported the article?

It must be annoying that the cheerleading squad didn't show up.

My cheerleading squad. What an amusing thought! I wonder if there's anyone in mumsnet who isn't confident in their own opinion and calls for back up Grin

My point still stands. You were the one who made the assumptions that only teachers, as a single blob, took issue with the opinion piece. There really has been a majority of posters who have unpicked the article.

I still want to know what in the actual article itself you found so reassuring.

I can't tell. Are you suggesting the oxford paediatric consultant is stupid and believes the earth is flat? Or me for agreeing with him?

Sad

“While young people are less likely to die than older people they can still be very seriously affected, this virus affects organs throughout the body.” This has been my worry all along, I really want more numbers on outcomes other than death!

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 19:35

What?

Just answer my question!

Never has a user name been so badly chosen!!

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 19:37

You ARE miffed that your OP didn't gather a load of posts telling you what marvellous news this all was.

I think your OP title may have been badly worded perhaps, compared to a similar thread attracting lots of people who see things your way.

askmehowiknow · 20/08/2020 19:39

@latticechaos are you suggesting schools shouldn't fully reopen until we have more data?

How much more data would you be happy with? Conclusive data would take years (if we ever get any- studies have a habit of disagreeing with each other)

I think possibly you're projecting.

Projecting what? This is surreal.

Are you having fun?

I am just assuming you have been rumbled and realise the thing you want to be in that article isn't there.

Hallelujah!!!

I'm saying I wish I had more info on outcomes other than death.

Stop being so combative and hostile to any post!

Everyone should want more data, unless they are a dipshit.

At no point did I say schools shouldn't open. Please don't put words in my mouth.

My view, fwiw, is part time to allow for SD in schools would be the best balance as we approach a first winter with covid.

I'm just genuinely not understanding people who don't think children deserve/need to go back to school full time.

I'm just genuinely not understanding people who don't think children deserve/need to go back to school full time.

I actually prefer the full-time model to the part-time model, personally. I just genuinely can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to put every conceiveable measure in place to decrease the likelihood of as many children as possible needing, or being forced to have, more time away from school.
