Article from oxford professor summarising new data that it's safe for children to be in school. Great pre September reading!

Out of genuine interest. Is there anyone that's posted slating the article that isn't a teacher?

There were several upthread.

But, anyway, who are the experts on education and schools? Who has the government never consulted? The huge board looking at Ofquals algorithm contained ONE executive head of a large MAT. There is no respect for teachers expert views in government, or from you.

hedgehogger1 · 20/08/2020 14:59

I'm still looking for a statement from a union that's against schools opening?

keep looking @hedgehogger1 it is Us For Them bull shit - part of the lies being spun to support the cause. A bit like the one that children don't catch or spread COVID.

I wasn’t always a teacher. But anyway, even a teacher can click a link in your article and find that it links to this rather damning article in the Times

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/older-pupils-spread-virus-like-adults

And sure it’s behind a paywall but it starts

“A health minister has sought to downplay an official study after its preliminary findings contradicted blanket assurances from the government that it was safe for all children to return to school next month.

Edward Argar suggested the Public Health England (PHE) research would not be published until long after pupils go back to class, after initial results suggested that secondary school pupils transmit the virus like adults.

Scientists at PHE believe that tougher rules will probably be needed for older children, despite finding that primary pupils do not appear to pass the virus to each other.”

So how reassured should secondary teachers be by that, ask given that it was linked to from your article?

Why this question? So you can lump them all together and discount their views? Nice.

Look what happened when they tried to cut out teachers from the a level results with an algorithm.

I think involving teachers in schools is sensible?

To try and cut them out and ignore them is at best arrogant.

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 15:51

How many posters have wholeheartedly supported the article?

It must be annoying that the cheerleading squad didn't show up.

FlySheMust · 20/08/2020 15:52

Where's your critical thinking?

In full working order.Such a shame that you persist with the same lies.

Embarrassing as well as simple.

noblegiraffe · 20/08/2020 15:52

Even the article doesn’t support the article.

I wonder how a link to a different article destroying the first article’s claims ended up in the first article?

So children miss out on the biggest part of their young lives ? It’s ridiculous, kids have been forgotten.

Everything else seems to have returned to normal apart from schools . In my city people are carrying on as if their was no pandemic , no social distancing, sitting and standing so close in bars and restaurants 🤨.

In fact , I think some of the your family people are really trying with social distancing, I know my 12 year old .

We can’t keep schools shut whilst everything else is back to normal - it’s just a greedy society that wants to have money and forget kids .

If people don’t want to send your kids back then don’t - teachers if you are worried find a different job where you won’t have to interact with people .

Reminder from upthread:

There is a demented fringe group who want them open at all costs with no safety measures at all for teachers and older pupils.

Here’s a handy checklist on how to spot them:

  1. They will assume that anyone arguing for the safe re-opening of schools actually wants them to remain closed

  2. They will suggest that any parent unhappy with the lack of mitigation measures deregister their child

  3. They will suggest that any teacher unhappy with the lack of mitigation measures resign their job

  4. They will slate teachers at any opportunity.

Eyes peeled.

CountDuckulasKetchup · 20/08/2020 16:06

Charlie, please define normal?

Shops are open, but not normal. You need to wear a mask and numbers are restricted (6 at a time in a typical classroom sized shop that I walked past recently).

Pubs, restaurants etc the same. Gyms, pools etc. All with reduced numbers. GPS are online where I am, dentists are closed unless it's an emergency. Hairdresser etc have masks. Exactly where, (especially indoors) is back to normal?

No-one is saying keep them closed, just open with the same protection that other work places have. Some money for cleaning would be nice too Hmm

Have we touched a nerve? There is no old normal. Schools are reopening after the summer break as usual.

Your child will return to school in a new normal capacity. There will be new behaviour rules.

How often do we have to say that?

Chop chop - toughen up

Is this meant to persuade us that schools are safe?

Charliescar · 20/08/2020 16:40

@noblegiraffe what rubbish !!! My brother and cousin are teachers ! I work in school too on the office

Charliescar · 20/08/2020 16:42

@HipTightOnions nope just saying why should kids come last down the list . I work in a large secondary school . My daughter attends it .

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 16:47

Ah the old I know a teacher chestnut has been played

latticechaos · 20/08/2020 17:02

Read this just now:
Speaking on a Royal Society of Medicine webinar, Bell said: “My bet is that we will get a second wave, and the vaccines won’t get here in time to stop the second wave. And I’m not sure the new home testing is going to get there in time either, but it perhaps will take the edge off it. ...

Speaking about testing and schools, Bell said there was data that suggested children were “pretty infectious” when they had the virus. “They’re usually asymptomatic and they’re quite infectious, so managing the disease in a school environment is going to be really important for the overall trace, trace and isolate programme,” he said.

But everything isn't back to normal is it? Why lie?

Been to the theatre lately? Or a National Trust House?

Been out for a group meal of more than 6 people all around the same table in the pub?

Been to the dentist?

I won't go on. But your argument is facile.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/08/2020 17:33

@Charliescar you should know that @noblegiraffe is also a qualified teacher of very high standing - very successful and knowledgeable.

Charliescar · 20/08/2020 17:36

Ah it’s the new normal ?

I work in a school, so I know what’s going on. So no @StaffAssociationRepresentative
not that old chestnut .

Yes, I have been to the dentist this week . I know most people are meeting from more than one other household - maybe you aren’t.

I have my opinion and you have yours .
