Considering there are so many on the other thread that are and that the rhetoric on other threads seems to be not about the amount of deaths, but of the the long term side effects,it would be interesting to hear from people who HAVEN'T had these.

We hear a lot about the long term effects here on mumsnet because those who have it are very vocal. People who had it for a week and then got over it, or were asymptomatic, dont bother to mention it because why would you?

I know 2 people who have had it (confirmed by test). One asymptomatic, one mild symptoms for 3 days. I know about 6 people who believe the have had it and it was bad for a few weeks but then was fine.

LeahDownTheLane · 13/08/2020 17:44

A friend who got it late March, very poorly in hospital for two weeks and still very ill and having lung therapy. She was very healthy with an active job. An elderly family member tested while in hospital was positive with absolutely no symptoms.

Couchbettato · 13/08/2020 17:53

I only know 1 person who has had it, but they died from it. Presumably caught at work, as he was the only over 40 on our floor.

JaceLancs · 13/08/2020 18:35

2 colleagues one recovered quicker than the other but neither have any long term effects

lifeafter50 · 13/08/2020 19:09

My husband - the bastard...
I have a cough early some mornings which I assume is related, but not onerous or debilitating.

Vanillaradio · 13/08/2020 19:37

I have had it. I had no symptoms at the time and feel fine now. Dh possibly had it but tested negative despite having symptoms, he is fine now either way. I know 3 who had it mildly and seem fine now, 2 who were quite poorly but also seem fine and 2 who died ( one of these was a man in his late 80s in poor health and the other with advanced Parkinsons)

Aliceinwanderland · 13/08/2020 19:42

I know of about 10 people who we think had it or definitely had it. 2 died (both elderly) Of the others 1 had breathing problems 3 months after but is now better. The others recovered after about 2-3 weeks.
We also now think DD1 probably had it. Ill for about 3 weeks and then recovered.

RedRosie · 13/08/2020 19:54

My friend's husband ... Bit of a cough. Tested positive. Better after three days.

Out of my friend, their teenager and a younger child who were all tested, only the teenager tested positive and none of them were in the least bit ill. Not a sniffle.

I've not heard the official advice mention vitamin D, Mummabeary. I wish they would! And yes to sleep for the immune system.

ilovebagpuss · 13/08/2020 19:58

I’ve had it spent a week feeling a bit crap aches fever skin pain. I’m asthmatic too but my asthma was only a little worse no cough.
It did wipe me out fatigue wise but only for a couple of weeks after. I only took one week off work should have had longer but they were expecting people back.
I know a lot of people that had it and were ok some did have post viral fatigue and some had quite bad breathing problems but as far as I know they did not suffer beyond say 6 weeks and that was the worst case.

ilovebagpuss · 13/08/2020 20:03

I have just recalled someone that had it and is having ongoing heart problems which are related but they are hopeful they will resolve in 6 months she is being monitored.

Kitcat122 · 13/08/2020 20:45

@Mummabeary I had it mildly 10 days feeling achey, chills, slight fever no smell. Was doing the housework. No cough but week 2 developed chest pain and shortness of breath which then lasted 4 months. On the mend now but still can't exercise yet. The rest of my family had no lasting effects.

Kitcat122 · 13/08/2020 20:46

Sorry posted early. Was healthy, rested not run down.

Holyrivolli · 13/08/2020 20:50

@Layladylay234. The vast majority of people have no to minor symptoms which is why it spreads so easily. Most people don’t even realise they have it.

Doesn’t fit with the narrative of some of the healthy crazies on here who are absolutely terrified of it but it’s true.

BakewellTarts · 13/08/2020 20:50

I would turn this on its head. I know 5 people who had a positive test all recovered and have no long term impacts (that they are aware of all back to normal prte virus health). 6 others who probably had it but weren't tested (not available at the time). Also all fine. Obviously a very small sample so not statistically accurate but thats it as far as covid positives in my life.

Bol87 · 13/08/2020 20:51

Yes, my friend & her family had it. She lost taste/smell & had a bad cough. Husband just the cough & temp. Daughter no symptoms. Her parents smell/taste & severe headaches. Her parents in their 70’s took a few weeks to feel fully better. My friend a week or so but 4 weeks for her sense of smell to come back! And husband less than a week.

Everyone is fully recovered.

amicissimma · 13/08/2020 21:10

I know 5 people who were really ill but not hospitalised with it. Only one got tested and was positive. She's fine now except that she's losing her hair. Another had a stubborn chest infection, to which he's prone, and eventually tested positive to antibodies. By chance he fell ill at the same time as someone else I know of similar age who also had a stubborn chest infection which the doctors believe wasn't Covid. They're both slowly recovering and in the same condition. The others seemed to recover fully in less than a month.

Everyone else had it mildly, including one who took to eating whole onions because she was amused by not being able to taste them. They were all fine within a couple of weeks.

Only one person I know who had it had a partner who also tested positive but had no symptoms. Everyone else's partner appears not to have had it.

I don't know anyone who's died, nor do I know anyone who knows anyone who's died from it. I don't personally know of anyone who was hospitalised.

I know two people who are still very unwell from having flu in 2017, however.

Foreverbaffled · 13/08/2020 21:13

Yup, two work colleagues. Both in early 60s and BAME. Both absolutely fine - one only lost sense of taste/smell for few days and the other had something similar to a cold (in his words.) I don’t know anyone else that has had it.

greytminds · 13/08/2020 21:15

My dad was very ill and hospitalised, and has ongoing heart problems and a partially collapsed lung but is recovering slowly.

A colleague was one of the very earliest cases and was tested before testing was dropped, so had it confirmed. She’s been absolutely fine - all she had was a day or two of headache, fever and sore throat. She only thought to get tested as she’d recently returned from an affected country.

BakewellGin1 · 13/08/2020 21:20

One didn't have any symptoms other then tiredness and was only tested due to her work (approx 2 weeks but never felt unwell other then tiredness)
One lost sense of smell and had a mild cough (approx 2 weeks)
One had temp, breathlessness, cough and was exhausted (approx 1 week)

My Mum we and her GP think had it November before it was a thing..

None stop cough, breathlessness, damage to lung and liver, exhausted and felt like she wanted to curl up and die - approx a 8 week recovery once the fourth lot of antibiotics helped so approx 12 weeks in total

Jano69 · 13/08/2020 21:27

2 of my daughter's friends had it (17) - both asymptomatic.

ChavvySexPond · 13/08/2020 21:38

Everyone I know who had an awful bug from New Year onwards thinks they might have had it, but since there was no community testing who knows?!

My son's friend just had it. No symptoms. No currently known after effects except that he seems to have lost some fitness and can't lift the weights he's used to, and his mum says he sleeps more.

Ontopofthesunset · 13/08/2020 22:02

We know loads of people who've had it, including me and my husband and my sister's whole family. My husband was the most unwell for a few weeks but he is back to full fitness, running several times a week and working out twice a week. None of the rest of us were very unwell at all - a couple of days of headache or fever, loss of smell and taste, tiredness and loss of appetite for a few days etc. I know of a couple of people who suffered for six or more weeks as well as a couple of people who were hospitalised. I know one person who is in a hospital recovery study (though he wasn't hospitalised originally) as he's still suffering chest pain, though apparently his chest and heart are undamaged but he has learned bad breathing patterns which he has to unlearn. We also know of many families where only one or two people were symptomatic and where only one or two have tested positive for antibodies.

ThousandsAreSailing · 13/08/2020 22:17

I'm a HCP in the community. I know loads who've had it. Some very frail patients who were inpatients at the time tested positive with no symptoms. Lots of staff had it but 2, young women actually, were very poorly and still have some fatigue
I know a 50 year old bloke with no underlying conditions who, sadly, died
All staff have had antibody tests. Some have antibodies without testing positive for covid, others tested positive but no antibodies
It's very strange. I've been pleasantly surprised how many of my very frail patients survive it but then it gets some people horribly
