Considering there are so many on the other thread that are and that the rhetoric on other threads seems to be not about the amount of deaths, but of the the long term side effects,it would be interesting to hear from people who HAVEN'T had these.

This virus is just so bizarre. I know some people who had it where it was no more than a cold and I know someone who is still completely wiped out- although they contracted it in hospital whilst already quite ill with something else. I don't know if it's the original health condition or the Coronavirus, or both, that is making their recovery so hard.

I also sadly know of someone who died. It was discovered that he had an underlying health condition so was more vulnerable. He did not know about the underlying health condition though so would not have expected to die. He had raised iron levels in his blood but had lived without knowing this until he became very ill and then passed away from Coronavirus.

tmh88 · 13/08/2020 08:15

I don’t know anyone that’s had it.

happypotamus · 13/08/2020 08:15

I know a few people who had it mildly and one who was completely asymptomatic (confirmed by antibody testing as we work for the NHS). None of them have long-term complications.

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 08:15

Personally I know 10 people who have had COVID:

3 died
2 recovered minimal issues
1 barely noticed they had it
2 recovered but took a while (2-3 months)
1 long term issues (5 months and counting)
1 still recovering but only been 3 months so we'll see.

Kokeshi123 · 13/08/2020 08:15

The only people I know (two people) who have had it, had positive antibody tests. They have no memory of being sick at all. Either asymptomatic or cold type symptoms, presumably.

knittingaddict · 13/08/2020 08:18

I do question the longevity and severity of some people’s symptoms months on is slightly exaggerated.

What gives you the right to say that TeddyIsaHe? Is it because you don't want to believe it? I don't want it to be true either, but it's horrible to dismiss people's first hand experiences of this illness.

Blinkyblonkyblimey · 13/08/2020 08:18

I know three people who have had a confirmed case of coronavirus. A lady in her 70’s who was really ill, but only for a week and has made a full recovery. A man in his twenties who recovered after a month, and a really fit, young woman who got it in April and is still extremely unwell. She has been admitted to hospital numerous times and suffers from breathing problems and her heart has been affected too. She has been told she may never fully recover from the effects.

Looneytune253 · 13/08/2020 08:20

Yeah my dh had it (confirmed) and he was really poorly but he's fully recovered now. I also had it (not confirmed but I was symptomatic mildly at the same time as he was) and I don't have any longer term problems.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/08/2020 08:23

I know two people who survived (and several who died) confirmed cases.

One of the two was not hospitalised and though she was very ill for many weeks, she fully recovered.

The other was hospitalised and has been debilitated for months, but is slowly recovering. Not clear whether he will ever completely recover.

I also know several people who almost certainly had it with mild symptoms but weren't tested.

Layladylay234 · 13/08/2020 08:24

Thanks to all who contributed and actually read the title of the thread. As I said, there's a LOT of stuff about people with after effects,I was interested in those to hear from those who haven't,as I'm sure a lot of research will be going in to try and determine why that happens. Never at any point have I questioned or said people exaggerated their symptoms. Thanks again x

Yes I know of three families who all had it pretty mildly - 13 people were sick with it and only one has had long term issues and he has high blood pressure and is overweight and terrible at actually resting!

Layladylay234 · 13/08/2020 08:26

@Kitcat122,where did you hear/read about ,the 10%? Would be really interested to understand more about the after effects and how common they are.

My friend : no temp, had persistent coughing and anosmia for 2 weeks, she's recovered now and feels fine

Another friend : very high fever, shortness of breath. Also has diabetes, hypertension, kidney dialysis patient. Recovered approx 2 weeks later and tested neg 3 weeks after she got a positive covid test

My colleague : just had fatigue and stayed in bed for 3 days. She still testing positive a month later even though she feels well and has no symptoms

Another colleague : cough and fever. She feels a lot of aches and pains in her legs now but possibly not related to having covid

AstonishingMouse · 13/08/2020 08:27

I guess the Mumsnet demographic is at relatively low risk of severe Covid or death - it's not a forum full of BAME older men in deprived areas.
I think there was initially such a focus on death / life, that we were all rather surprised that some people come through the illness without much drama but have longer term effects. And as it's such a new illness with so many unknowns, those people with longer term effects will likely be more worried than they would be with other post viral illnesses. Hence the activity on this forum.

IllustriousToad · 13/08/2020 08:28

I know 7 people - 3 have got ongoing issues. 1 has proper long covid and has been unable to work now for 4 months (she is 38), 2 have developed asthma and are having to use inhalers every day (both aged 30). All 3 previously healthy people.

Sassanacs · 13/08/2020 08:31

I've had it and there's been no longer term issues that I'm aware of. I've felt a bit off on occasion but have been able to attribute to something else e.g totm or this fucking heatwave!

MrDarcysMa · 13/08/2020 08:32

Yes I know a couple of people who had it and didn't know they definitely had it at time- until they got private antibody tests which were then available, they actually thought it was shingles at the time and no lasting effects.

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 08:33

I also have friend who is completely asymptomatic and has been for the 5 months she has tested positive for COVID. She isn't allowed to see anyone outside her immediate family who live with her, isn't allowed outside to exercise. It's been hell!

OverItAndTired · 13/08/2020 08:34

I know lots of people that have had it- the main cases are

2 died (both elderly but otherwise well)
1 ventilated (overweight and diabetic) but fully recovered- one of the early March cases
Everyone else symptoms that kept them off work but have recovered with no lasting affects
I question 1 person who has had a string of issues since April / May time but refuses to attribute it to the virus- they think it's allergies / adult asthma and stress- which it may well be but could also be post-viral symptoms too.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/08/2020 08:36

@lazylinguist

just trying to give an alternative view to the idea that is bouncing around that yes,you won't die from it,but you will suffer terrible after effects.

But it's well-publicised and widely known that the majority of people have it mildly or are asymptomatic. Surely nobody thinks most people will have long and terrible after effects?!

I'm pretty certain I had it, and the only others I know are a very few people like me, who had fairly mild Covid symptoms, were never tested and have had no ongoing problems.

there are plenty of people on mumsnet - and other forums - who never tire of proclaiming that 'most people will have long and terrible after effects'
LittleSwede · 13/08/2020 08:37

My friend, her partner and 4 weekold baby all had it (test positive). Baby 40 degree fever spikes for a few days and off milk/feeds buttgen absolutely fine. The partner only had a mild cold with sore throat. My friend was already weak as a kitten after a difficult delivery resulting in emc, she had a very sore throat for 5 weeks and felt weak but no fever or cough or any after effects later on.

Dh, dd and I think we had it. All coughed for weeks (me 5) and felt under the weather for a couple of weeks but no long term issues. Fingers crossed!

MoreListeningLessChatting · 13/08/2020 08:39

Yes, friends sister - mid forties had it very mild only knew because husband works for NHS and had it 50's he was 'poorly' and in bed for a week. Both fully recovered and no long term effects.

ANother was my SIL's BIL works at a nursing home actually was in ICU for 10 days back in APril - fully recovered and back at work in same care home.

MoreListeningLessChatting · 13/08/2020 08:40

@AlecTrevelyan006

Indeed there are .... I think if you look for it hard enough every little twitch, sniff and ache can be attributed Hmm

HowFastIsTooFast · 13/08/2020 08:40

I don't know anyone who's had it, despite having a number of friends/colleagues in Spain and Sweden that were both hard hit.

ChangeOfNameNeeded07 · 13/08/2020 08:41
