What are you expecting from this weeks announcement?

OP posts:
Basecamp65 · 12/08/2020 17:36

I am completely stunned!!

People are actually still watching these - tbh I didn't even know the government was still making 'announcements'

eddiemairswife · 12/08/2020 17:40

I hate the term 'road map' when they mean 'plan'. A road map is something needed when you intend to drive from London to Barnard Castle, not something you have decided is a policy for next week.

Crabeyes · 12/08/2020 17:41

Eat out to help out

Lmao 😂

SixesAndEights · 12/08/2020 17:59

@Couchbettato

More tripe, probably.
This.

@TeddyIsaHe

God knows, we must all wear bobble hats and skip instead of walk? Locking everyone who’s ever had a cold forever?

The way this govt is going nothing would surprise me anymore.

I’m wearing a mask but I draw the line at a bobble hat, I’ve got very big hair & it just can’t be done. I predict further changes to exam results, with all grades allocated by your next door neighbour. Safe to have eyebrows waxed but you’re only allowed to have one done (and no a monobrow does not count as one) Everyone must speak like a pirate on Thursdays
Redland12 · 12/08/2020 18:12

What a fantastically funny thread! I can’t stop laughing! Brilliant. I also was unaware of any announcement. 😂😂

@bingbong1970

The quickest way to end this nonsense Pandemic is by people disobeying the government. The lockdown has caused the death of over 26,000 people. They deliberately inflated the Covid death numbers. Now the government have said sorry, not as many people died of Covid 19 as we throught. Here's the new number that's 20,000 less than the old number. 34,000 deaths in a population of 70 million in 5 months. 80% of infections cause mild to no symptoms. The average age of the dead is 82. Children under 15 are statistically more likely to die from being hit by lightening. The number of infections will keep increasing because millions of people have had it, not known about it and are testing positive because they've already had it. The continuous and enormous amount of testing is pointless. Covid 19 killed the weakest. It's over. It's no scarier than the flu. People have got to understand what is happening and disobey the government. If the flu season is bad, they are going to lockdown again and thousands more innocent people will die from lack of medical care. We have to stop.
Public health have announced a 5000 reduction as they have changed the rule to only count those who died within 28 days of a positive test, no idea where you've pulled 20,000 from

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 it was on radio 4's more or less today how we've been over-counting compared to how other counties do it. only heard it with one ear though. yay so maybe we don't stuck at killing old people!!

stovetopespresso · 12/08/2020 18:24

I would think it will be something about the economy, they will probably try and get more open irrespective of the safety.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/08/2020 18:54

@ohthegoats

I'm going to go with 'crowd pleasing bullshit which won't actually be acted on, but by the time we notice that, there will be some desperate people in a dinghy that they can distract us with'.
I don't think you've fully appreciated how important it is we keep desperate people in dinghys out of the country.

But didn't other countries test more?
In this country many may well have died at home either too scared to call an ambulance or seek medical advice or being told that they were still breathing so not ill enough to go to hospital.
Without any form of testing back in March and April we have literally no idea of the numbers of dead.

Roselilly36 · 12/08/2020 19:15

More of the same nonsense ...
1 we are following the science
2 making the right decisions, at the right time
3 wash your hands
4 stay at home, scrub that, get back to the office
5 clap like a performing seal for NHS workers, while Gov voted for against pay rises, protect the NHS, my eye.
6 go on holiday abroad, scrub that, staycations all the way, as long as you don’t want to use a beach.
7 results of Cummings eyesight test, modelling new his new specs
8 eat out, half price fast food, really going too help obesity, when you need to get on your newly repaired bike
9 more rubbish about the track & trace fiasco
10 still can’t get Coronavirus tests too detect whether it’s definitely Covid-19 or another Coronavirus
11 trying to get the stats right
12we will apply the brakes when necessary

I for one won’t be watching, confused enough already

WhiteChocTwix · 12/08/2020 19:15

1st world problem and all that but I want to know if I can keep my eyebrow appointment on Saturday...Grin

TheGreatWave · 12/08/2020 19:20

One-Trick-Pony Boris still believes that a bit of Brexit flag waving to appease the racist Northeners will do the job of getting him off the hook for all other cock ups.

Absolutely no need for this. The north is no more to blame for Brexit then any other area in England.

HeIenaDove · 12/08/2020 19:22

I predict we will all have to wrap ourselves in bubble wrap. No matter how much it makes us sweat.

bingbong1970 · 12/08/2020 20:00

Do I have the link to which figure?

bingbong1970 · 12/08/2020 20:03

6000 unwell people died due to being afraid of going to A&E and catching Coronavirus.

bingbong1970 · 12/08/2020 20:11

It's the figure that I've seen several times and it's very similar to the number that I come up with. But I'm not able to definitively prove it with a link on the Internet at the moment. I'm right though.

SistemaAddict · 12/08/2020 20:36

Will it be a 5pm announcement? 4pm? Midday? Is it a definite thing or a rumour?

The 6000 comes from the modelling the ONS did. I think it says it may have been due to not attending A&e or receiving care for pre-existing conditions. They also point out it would have been much larger if we hadn’t locked down.

Kitmerow · 12/08/2020 21:14

Majority of MN have been happy with previous updates then Grin
