I can’t believe this is how people think

My MIL told me she’d rather die of “anything else over Covid”

My own mother is convinced she’ll end up in ICU on a ventilator if she gets it, despite having no health concerns.

I fully blame the media. It’s becoming frightening how big it is in people’s minds.

The difference between now and earlier times is that we know what to do to stop a lot of the deaths - and the, possibly permanent, disability this virus causes in a substantial minority of those who dont die.

And no, people were not less afraid of dying, because I'm old enough to have heard stories from my relatives about the time before the NHS existed. If you think a child's death is any more bearable when it's your third child to die you are beneath contempt.

Plus most people no longer think that there is a pre-ordained plan for their lives.

I was talking about the 14th or 15th century!

Where did I say that??

You only need to see what's happening in Brazil to know what would very likely happen if COVID was allowed to spread unchecked. It's horrendous, and the US isn't much better (more deaths still but that's only because the virus struck sooner there).

Sometimes I wonder if Bolsanaro is on Mumsnet insisting that COVID is 'just a little flu'.
