Still breaking so no exact detail on location yet but -

"Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas."
@Rosehip10 I have said several times that a formal statement at 6 pm last night in a press conference would have been annoying but fine. Sneaky Twitter shit at 10 pm two hours before the restrictions come into force is just contemptible
Yes I agree, shocking really.

Agree with this.
I'm happy to follow the rules but not if you treat us like idiots.

secretllama · 31/07/2020 14:53

Exactly what @DarkHelmet said!

IrmaFayLear · 31/07/2020 15:27

6pm or 10pm, why on earth were people planning jamborees? You can’t cancel something you didn’t arrange.

I see that people are still gathering. Do people feel they are immune, or has the message simply failed to get through?

As I previously said, community and religious leaders should be answerable. I see, however, that some are complaining. Wtf? Surely they should be urging everyone to get with the programme for their own sakes .

QueenCT · 31/07/2020 15:38

Preston is spiking also, texts are going out at the minute advising avoid visitors in the home and wear face coverings

SueEllenMishke · 31/07/2020 15:57

What exactly has been disrupted

Really? Are you fucking kidding?

I'm am completely on my knees and have worked full time throughout this without any childcare.
Finally we could use PIL and SIL but now we're back to juggling everything and it's shit.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 15:58

You think telling someone on national TV at six pm to change their plans is as convenient as spaffing out some shit on Twitter at 10

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2020 15:59

It is annoying because “Kirklees” covers several towns and COVID cases are only rising in one of them

labelsaccidentalbrewing · 31/07/2020 16:13

For now. People travel from one town to the other to visit family.
JaceLancs · 31/07/2020 16:19

I live in Lancs - no surprise!
Not in one of the areas of local lockdown
District I live in has very low incidence - however already had a mass text message today via my GP practice saying a neighbouring area is in danger of lockdown and not to go to mosque or anyone else’s household and avoid large gatherings
I’m not BAME but do think this community is being targeted - some of my friends from BAME communities are being very strict others aren’t - probably the same as those in other communities

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/07/2020 16:20

I see that people are still gathering. Do people feel they are immune, or has the message simply failed to get through?*

I can't answer that, but Leicester MNers on other threads expressed the view that some there aren't failing to follow guidelnes because they don't know there's an issue, but because they simply don't wish to comply - possibly a view shared by the huge crowds outside our city mosque today, where social distancing was nowhere in sight

Like PPs, what beats me is why large celebrations have been planned during Covid at all; the late announcement may have been sprung on folk, but the overall situation and now the increasing numbers certainly weren't

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 31/07/2020 16:23

I gather the residents of Ilkley and Addingham are fairly annoyed about being included in “Bradford” - and it all gets a bit random when you reach the boundary with Craven (e.g. Steeton and Eastburn are in Bradford but Crosshills and Sutton-in-Craven aren’t - even though there is little geographical separation between these villages - they pretty much run into one another).

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 31/07/2020 16:27

Craven is in Blue - the unshaded area is Bradford (the boundary with Pendle is just off the bottom left of this map).

Hopefully sensible people will be much more aware of sending children to school poorly or going into work. Schools in particular will be sending children home with the merest hint of a snuffle to get them tested, and I know some of them have policies that even if your test is negative they want the child to stay at home until their symptoms of whatever they have have gone.

Again hopefully COVID has been a wake up call for some families hygiene and hand washing is taken more seriously.

I missed my GM's 100th birthday a few years ago as I was about 40 hours into the 48 hour 'quarantine' after a bout of norovirus. There was no way I was going to risk her health or any of the other residents in her care home. I was desperately sad I was missing it but no way was I prepared to take that risk.

My0My · 31/07/2020 16:48

The BBC is reporting that lifting restrictions has caused these problems but clearly not everywhere. They have stopped the proposed 5000 attending Goodwood tomorrow but Bournemouth is rammed again. The race goers were all members so not travelling from anywhere with much Covid about! West Sussex isn’t a hot spot.

At this rate, it’s dc going back to school vs the rest of us being very restricted. Pubs and restaurants will close again soon!

My0My · 31/07/2020 16:52

I think we now all realise we don’t have enough sensible people about! We have selfish idiots who must gather with others whether it’s on the beach or Eid dinners. Some hadn’t been doing enough since restrictions were lifted: that’s now obvious when you look at the hot spots.

They’ve identified areas by council boundaries so you get a millionaires row with terraced overcrowded housing in the same council area.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 16:58

Well then lets hope all the idiots get it before the schools go back, that or we will be put in a very strict lockdown.

AnnaMariaDreams · 31/07/2020 16:58

Ilkley had the first cases- all those skiing trips in February. Now too posh for CovidConfused?

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 31/07/2020 17:23

@AnnaMariaDreams - they’re probably at least as upset about being described as “Bradford” as they are about the additional restrictions Wink

doityourselfnow · 31/07/2020 18:25

Treated with contempt and now he's claiming it has nothing to do with Eid.
Ok we'll watch how you lockdown when its announced on twitter 11.45pm on Christmas eve. At least you'll be able to spend it outdoors in the park when its pissing it down.

Agreed!

amusedtodeath1 · 31/07/2020 19:11

Just a note about Rossendale, all my family live there and although the number of confirmed cases is very low, requests for tests have risen exponentially over the few days apparently, a lot of people who were out and about are saying they feel very unwell and concerned they have it. Tests are taking 4 days to come back.

Lissy23 · 31/07/2020 19:31

I live in Calderdale and there are isolated areas affected and we still have a low overall level. So it doesn’t make much sense to me that we’ve been included.

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2020 19:48

Lissy same here in Kirklees.
It seems daft that people living in a large city close to me can socialise but just because we are managed by a council that also looks after a town (further away than said city) which has had a rise in cases we can’t

islockdownoveryet · 31/07/2020 21:19

And this is exactly why it's so important that everyone follows all of the guidelines and doesn't ignore them based on their own risk assessments, isn't it? Because many of us have seen this coming but are shouted down constantly. We can't just carry on as if nothing has happened because then this happens, and it starts slowly and is only really noticeable when it's out of control. I'm sorry @Hearhoovesthinkzebras** I don't understand your comment has answered mine .
Of course I've followed the rules but I have to work I've had 3 months furloughed .
So what do you suggest people do that need to work who need childcare but have no choice but to ask relatives during the holidays ?

neatknottedfinger · 31/07/2020 21:36

I gather the residents of Ilkley and Addingham are fairly annoyed about being included in “Bradford”

Snobbery is alive and well in the area then!
