Anyone else randomly selected for a Covid test?

Just received my random test which I will do in a bit (when I’ve got the courage to stick things up my nose/throat).
Anyone else received theirs?
I think mine must’ve got rushed through as my town is on the list for possible lockdown.

I did...presumably because I had a cough and have been ill with my asthma since. However I’ve had an antibody blood test through work that was “undetected” so I’m not inclined to bother.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/07/2020 13:34

Received a letter for my 16 year old daughter saying she has been selected at random for a test.

Lau7 · 24/07/2020 13:34

Yes I was randomly selected and waiting for it to come in the post. Let us know how you get on!

blackcat86 · 24/07/2020 13:35

DPs were randomly selected. They've been living it up on M&S vouchers for doing repeated tests.

gigglingHyena · 24/07/2020 13:47

Yes, did one a couple of weeks ago. I can't say it was a particularly pleasant way to start the day (had to be done by 8am ready for earliest collection slot) but it wasn't too bad and didn't take long.

blobbyface · 24/07/2020 14:28

Yes I was selected about a month ago. Used to tests anyway as have a weekly one at work

BunsyGirl · 24/07/2020 14:53

Yes, my DS was selected for a random test back in May.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 24/07/2020 15:01

I received mine today after being randomly selected. Done 2 before (when symptomatic but negative for work requirements), it’s a bit gag inducing, but it’s no real bother. Pain in the bum to get up on a Saturday to test before the courier at 8am, but that’s the slot I booked.

Slightly odd that this test has no carrier fluid in the little vial unlike the previous 2, and needs refrigeration after testing until the courier does the pick up, but providers & requirements change so not overly bothered.

It’s only 5 minutes, not much to give in these weird times.

Yes, I was randomly selected to do one a few weeks ago. Not the most enjoyable of experiences but straightforward enough. Result came through a few days later.

Autviaminveniamautfaciam · 24/07/2020 15:08

I have one for DS11. I don't see the point. He doesn't have Coronavirus and if he was asymptomatic surely one of us would pick it up off him and be ill? I think it would have been better if they were doing antibody tests.

Seriously, what is the point of this?

ShellsAndSunrises · 24/07/2020 15:12

You could be asymptomatic too? WHO are not overly sure how many people are, but some countries believe it’s a high percentage.

Autviaminveniamautfaciam · 24/07/2020 15:38

Actually, pretty sure we all had it in Feb. Still think an antibody test to see how widespread herd immunity is would be better money spent.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/07/2020 15:44

I also think an antibody test would be better.

theemmadilemma · 24/07/2020 15:46

Yes. Mine arrived today.

Longdistance · 24/07/2020 21:38

I’ve booked the courier to come on Monday, so I’ll do the test Monday morning early.
I would rather a test to say if I’d had it, then I could donate my plasma. I was quite ill before Christmas and after my dm was admitted for breathing problems at the end of January.
We’ll see...

My dad been selected for antibody test he is 74

MyMagicStars · 24/07/2020 23:27

Feeling horribly anxious in case DD3 or DD4 have to have this- both are absolutely freaked out at the thought of the tests, possibly ADHD and sensory related. Is it mandatory?

HalfDutchGirl · 24/07/2020 23:32

Yes, I’ve been randomly selected too. Will arrange my courier for Monday and do the test that day too.

Raimona · 24/07/2020 23:36

I was selected for a test a while ago. But I didn’t get tested because I didn’t feel unwell and basically didn’t see why I should inconvenience myself and have swabs poked up my nose. Are they offering vouchers to get tested now? Perhaps because a lot of people like me saw no reason why they should get tested.

Longdistance · 24/07/2020 23:36

@MyMagicStars no, you don’t have to do it. As I was selected for it I thought ‘why not?’ 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ll do my bit. Your dds won’t have to do it. If you receive one for them, shove the letter through the shredder.

DS was randomly chosen.

That's not an experience I want to repeat in a hurry. I have no idea how I wasn't bitten or vomited on.

Grandmi · 24/07/2020 23:56

My son had an NHS letter yesterday and he is quite happy doing the test !! I have had two Covid tests and it is not as brutal as people perceive!! Do it yourself and relax ...it’s ok .

Lindy2 · 24/07/2020 23:57

My 12 year old has been selected and the test arrived today. She has ADHD and hates anything medical. She is however going to do the test because she wants to do her bit to help. I'm proud of her because she is definitely well outside her comfort zone.

I do know of another child selected for a random test a month or so ago. He totally unexpectedly got a positive result. It seems there a plenty of asymptomatic cases out there and random testing seems a pretty good way to try and find out more information about them.

LAlady · 24/07/2020 23:58

Yes, I did mine at the end of June and my dad has just been selected too.

Lindy2 · 25/07/2020 00:00

Raimona you seem to have missed the point about asymptomatic cases. It's a shame that a 5 minute test was such an inconvenience to you that you felt unable to help important medical research.
