Anyone else randomly selected for a Covid test?

Just received my random test which I will do in a bit (when I’ve got the courage to stick things up my nose/throat).
Anyone else received theirs?
I think mine must’ve got rushed through as my town is on the list for possible lockdown.

Yes! Am really happy as hace a random sore throat today. I had completely forgotten I answered ‘yes’ to taking part a few weeks ago.
Going to see if couriers can pick it up tomorrow / Sunday. Feels v glamorous & important that someone would pick it up, rather than me shoving it in the postbox 😂

Oh give over with the guilt tripping @Lindy2

DH did one for Imperial this week. Muppet sent off the package with the code before realising he needed it for the survey. Thankfully they texted him with a reminder.

DS (age 8) was randomly selected - apparently it's to try and gauge the levels in the community.

Am going to have to say no, as he's had a load of really bad nosebleeds in recent weeks and I really don't want to set him
off again. DD2 keen to help so might call and ask if she can do it instead, or if they particularly need an 8 yo boy.

Raimona · 25/07/2020 07:09

It's a shame that a 5 minute test was such an inconvenience to you that you felt unable to help important medical research
Nah, they wanted me to drive 30 mins to a testing site. That’s over an hour round trip just to get poked up the nose and I didn’t even feel ill. There was no incentive to put myself out.

PatchworkElmer · 25/07/2020 08:10

Yes, I said I’d do it and am waiting for the kit

Scottishgirl85 · 25/07/2020 08:12

My husband has been selected for an antibody test. Finger prick home test, not arrived yet.

donkir · 25/07/2020 08:42

My 5yr old has been selected for a test. We have declined.

warbies92 · 25/07/2020 08:44

@Autviaminveniamautfaciam

I have one for DS11. I don't see the point. He doesn't have Coronavirus and if he was asymptomatic surely one of us would pick it up off him and be ill? I think it would have been better if they were doing antibody tests.

Seriously, what is the point of this?

So that they can get an idea of virus prevalence throughout the general population. It’s really important that they understand this.
EveningNibble · 25/07/2020 08:47

I was invited via email from the app as was any others I lived with. My children and I went to a drive through centre for it. It was the second time we had been tested. It was absolutely fine.

SellFridges · 25/07/2020 08:50

I assume all the “see no point” people are also those who don’t allow medically students into appointments. How the hell do you think we find out more about this?!

Frezia · 25/07/2020 08:53

I was, I'm just waiting for the courier to pick up mine. I'm pretty sure I don't have it and haven't had it. I recently had to do the test on my toddler and it was traumatic for all involved, I honestly wouldn't choose to put a young child through it again, until they come up with a less intrusive test. I heard they're working on a saliva test, fingers crossed it's available soon.

cece · 25/07/2020 08:57

My 11 year old ds was selected. He's autistic so I ignored it. Nothing has happened.

TuckMyWin · 25/07/2020 09:03

My 5 year old was selected. He's had two tests already because he gets tonsillitis repeatedly- and any fever means a CV test at the moment if he wants to go to school. I'm not subjecting him to another one when I'm sure we'll have lots more to do come September when school starts- it's really not pleasant and I basically have to sit on him to get it done. So we've ignored it. Anyone else in the family- possibly even his younger brother who hasn't had one yet but will almost certainly have to in the future and might as well get used to the idea - and I would have done it.

Whatthebloodyell · 25/07/2020 09:04

My 6 year old has received the letter, but I won’t be getting him to do it. Too much discussion about CV makes him
worried.

Frezia · 25/07/2020 09:04

I spent more time trying to squeeze the bag with the sample into the too small postal box they provided.

PleaseChooseAnother · 25/07/2020 09:38

I took part in the research comparing swab tests with saliva tests, so did both tests.

The swab test was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Tholeonagain · 25/07/2020 17:49

I’m doing this and have the courier booked for tomorrow. Did those who have done it get a pick up window, or did you have to wait in all day?

I don't know if it's the same for all of them, but I got a text with a window on the day
AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 25/07/2020 21:07

My DS6 was selected at random about a month ago - part of research with Imperial College and Mori (I think)

OvertiredandConfused · 26/07/2020 07:39

Two 17yo at my DS school have tested positive this week. One a random test request and one key worker weekly test (temp job). Both asymptotic and not aware of contact with anyone diagnosed or with symptoms.

Pre-test, both have been socialising with friends. Mainly outside but car sharing and hugging...

This is why these tests matter to understand prevalence I guess.

Cockadoodledooo · 26/07/2020 14:17

I did, in May. Negative.

The antibody test I had a month later was positive.

Aragog · 26/07/2020 16:42

The Zoe app chose me to do a randomly selected test back in early June. I chose to do a home kit. Was fairly simply and not overly unpleasant. Negative result came back a couple of days later.

HalfDutchGirl · 26/07/2020 22:21

Courier is picking up mine tomorrow. Frustrating that I couldn’t ask for morning or afternoon pick up, I’m hoping I’ll receive a text giving me a time as I really don’t want to wait in all day.

MyMagicStars · 27/07/2020 14:34

DD4 has had a package come for her at uni via Hermes, but hasn’t ordered anything at all or used the post room since coming home in March. Her GP is the one near us now, is there any chance this is a COVID test?

Lindy2 · 27/07/2020 15:04

MyMagicStars it could be. I think it was Hermes that delivered the test for DD last week. She needs to open it to see.

I get the feeling there's a big effort to test Secondary school age children and University students at the present time.
