A trial of a drug which could reduce ICU admission by 79%, and is already in use for other things so doesnt need human trials for side effects etc.

Promising news about one of the many vaccines in production.

Hospital admissions have not increased, more than 2 weeks after pubs and restaurants reopened.

Lots of reasons to think positive at the moment Smile

My post was a cut and paste from Daily Mash. It's jolly positive AND humorous.

Jrobhatch29 · 24/07/2020 11:08

@NeurotrashWarrior

Good news is great. At the same time this is in relation to things like medical discoveries as yet fully untested, during a worldwide pandemic.

It's close to cancel culture and an echo chamber, or at least foolish and immature, to deny debate around caveats relating news about the coronavirus pandemic.

I found the sniffer dog story delightful. I'm so reassured that in my area, numbers are low and stable, no clusters and last week no cases in schools. I'm reassured that people I know in the nhs know about the vaccine and are very positive. Every single one has then added caveats due to the known unknowns and the unknown unknowns. It's basic problem solving.

Going forward into sept the vaccine and treatment news is reassuring to me, especially as I'm classed as CV and working with Sen . It would be foolish of me, working in the coal face, as a professional, to discount the very real challenges my own profession has to overcome in the coming months, which were already an issue before Covid.

It's offensive to have those concerns dismissed. Primarily as realism is what will solve the issues schools have and help to keep them open.

How many dismiss the very real concerns from nhs workers around the coming winter season?

I see what you are saying but maybe that kind of analysis is not needed on here? Things get debated to the nth degree on the other threads and that is fine! Maybe just the positive news on its own is enough here? There are plenty school threads too
CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 11:09

There are plenty school threads too

Tell me about it! But it wasn't a teacher who brought up schools on here.

askmehowiknow · 24/07/2020 11:11

@lifeafter50

What is ironic is those teachers who whine endlessly about 'teacher bashing' and then turn up to fret to derail a positive thread with the stuff they bang on endlessly about in their own pompous'Staffroom' threads ( and if you want batshit doom and gloom there's the place to find it!😀) Let the rest of us have a misery-free zone of realism. Thanks OP for publicising good news -some of us are delighted to hear it!
Batshit doom and gloom Grin

Definitely sticking with the batshit sniffer dogs

Juststopswimming · 24/07/2020 11:17

So much positive news right now - great thread! I'm ignoring the dementory posts [puts fingers in ears - la la la la la]

I have a friend who works for a global company who provide medical equipment (specifically respiratory equipment for hospitals, providing ventilators and CPAP) and they were just saying that even though numbers are going up in places like Spain and the US, they're not seeing anywhere near the demand on supplies that they were back in the spring. The ability to provide earlier treatment has definitely helped so patients arent getting as bad as they were, but also that people dont seem to be needing such intensive treatment anyway. Really hoping the tide has turned.

Angrymum22 · 24/07/2020 11:26

I live in one of the 20 areas with a 0.0 infection rate. Very reassuring when I’m working, as front line healthcare (dentistry) I have felt very vulnerable since we started back.
Great news about vaccine.

TJ17 · 24/07/2020 11:32

Oh I see the miseries are still out in their thousands.

Imagine I said a family member had terminal cancer.
Then I said to someone, after a visit to hospital, that said family member seemed very comfortable and content today.

And their reply was "well they are still dying though. It would stupid and naive to be positive so you have to hear all the negative parts too"

No....no I don't. I can be as positive as I want whilst still being aware and careful of the dangers too.

This is a positive thread. And if we want to bury our heads in the sand and dream of cuddling the sniffer dogs then we can.

If we want all the other facts we will read up on the many other miserable threads 🙄 now bore off and go be miserable elsewhere!

Jrobhatch29 · 24/07/2020 11:35

t.co/hBJQwYhUy9?amp=1

The weekly surveillance report is reassuring again. Pillar 1 cases are down and hospital admissions lowest in months

CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 11:48

Oh I see the miseries are still out in their thousands.

Thousands? Hmm

JumpingJackFrost · 24/07/2020 12:04

Oh what happened? I left this thread for a little while trying to detox from my phone and it's turned into a teacher bashing bunfight..... why?
Can't we have one thread that's positive?

CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 12:12

You'd have to ask the poster who brought up the subject in the first place.

KitKatastrophe · 24/07/2020 12:38

Too right @TJ17
I'm being careful and doing everything I should be (social distancing, masks etc.) While trying to remain hopefully optimistic about the future. I find it makes my existence a lot more bearable to look for positives. Luckily in real life I've yet to meet anyone who immediately jumps on anything positive with doom and gloom.

GoldenOmber · 24/07/2020 12:49

Luckily in real life I've yet to meet anyone who immediately jumps on anything positive with doom and gloom.

I have! Luckily in these socially distanced days I can just mute her on Facebook Grin

Honestly people it is OKAY to let a conversation about positive news just be positive. It’s not going to send hordes off to Ayia Napa, it’s not going to mean untested treatments get approved before they should be, it’s not going to flood the country with cute sniffer dogs. It’s okay. You can just let people feel positive.

CallmeAngelina · 24/07/2020 12:52

You can just let people feel positive.
Yes, that's fine, until someone decides to bring in a thinly-veiled jab at teachers, which rather spoiled the mood.

This study is yet another to find pre existing antibodies against covid. This study found 60% of children have these antibodies that neutralise the virus, which possibly explains why they make up such low % of cases. I dont know about you, but for me the low risk to children is a huge relief

Jrobhatch29 · 24/07/2020 18:48

As an aside too, this is antibodies that have been found. Other studies have found cross reactive t cells in adults!

FrippEnos · 24/07/2020 19:06

openplankitchen
And yet there are teachers on here terrified about returning to school full time from September.

You are so full of it, I bet that your eyes are brown.

FrippEnos · 24/07/2020 19:07

The antibody information, results and further research is really good news.

Interesting!

Will be forever grateful that it appears to not affect children too badly 🙏🏼😩 that in itself is something to be positive about!!

MarcelineMissouri · 25/07/2020 21:01

Good news about rapid on site testing

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/07/2020 22:35

Great thread. Thank you for starting it.

cathyandclare · 26/07/2020 07:18

The new rapid testing looks great, it'll make a massive difference to getting the NHS back to full function.

Sunshiney1981 · 26/07/2020 09:36

Another good news piece:

‘The influx of an estimated 500,000 people to Bournemouth’s beaches last month did not lead to an increase in cases of Covid-19, the chief executive of Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council has told LGC’

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/07/2020 10:00

I’m quite excited to see the government’s commitment to cycling and the link to obesity. I really hope this translates into real money and change.

Delta1 · 26/07/2020 11:28

@Sunshiney1981 oh that is great. I had meant to follow that but forgot. Great news. As was the Times piece confirming the lack of proven child to teacher transmission. There will always be the naysayers desperate to squash any hope and optimism for their own weird agenda, but human and naturally resilient and hopeful. I'm really hopeful that with use of local lockdown where absolutely necessary, schools will remain open. Our kids need that.
