A trial of a drug which could reduce ICU admission by 79%, and is already in use for other things so doesnt need human trials for side effects etc.

Promising news about one of the many vaccines in production.

Hospital admissions have not increased, more than 2 weeks after pubs and restaurants reopened.

Lots of reasons to think positive at the moment Smile

Pandemic? What pandemic? 😍😍

Chris Whitty always reassures me. Says reasonable chance vaccine ready for next winter, by which I assume he means for everyone so I think we’re looking at priority vaccination in the spring? I find it helpful to have a time frame to look to.

This is just a preprint and I don't pretend to understand the science lol maybe someone else does? Seems to suggest a strain has been identified that has mutated with potential to be less severe. Says it is important to find out if this strain is in circulation.

10 minute breath test!!
www.thetimes.co.uk/article/nhs-trials-10-minute-coronavirus-breath-test-hl6w0lvzw

I really hope one of these things actually comes to fruition the saliva tests seem to have disappeared and a lot of the quick results tests seem to have come to nothing as well. It would be such a game changer to have something like this properly rolled out.

TheKeatingFive · 23/08/2020 22:26

I couldn’t agree more. In the short term, swift testing has the most potential to get us back to something like normal.

I really love this thread. I was feeling quite depressed about everything today. Reading the comments here always makes me feel more optomistic and hopeful. 💕

boon · 23/08/2020 23:02

*optimistic

Memory B cells remain stable even after antibodies have faded. Looks good for longer term immunity

Thank goodness for this thread! The stats are speaking for themselves there. Thanks for sharing!

It's good news that the Government has changed its mind about masks being worn in schools, so kids are a bit more protected there.

CKBJ · 27/08/2020 15:15

Good news today: In Scotland in the last week nearly 17,500 children (2-17) have been tested revealing 49 cases, only an increase of 2 from the week before when tests were significantly lower. This should provide parents with some reassurance, especially in lower risk areas.

herecomesthsun · 27/08/2020 15:38

Positive cases across England fall for the first time in 6 weeks,
despite an increase in testing. This is from 6616 to 6115 cases/ week.

Fingers crossed this will continue.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/28/vanishingly-small-risk-of-death-or-severe-illness-for-children-from-covid

There is a thread on this but the doom mongers have already turned it into a school misery thread. Hope the OP of that thread doesn't mind me posting it here where it might just be accepted as some positive news. Risks to children vanishingly small!

Alex50 · 28/08/2020 10:26

This is such a good thread. Keep the good news coming Smile
