A trial of a drug which could reduce ICU admission by 79%, and is already in use for other things so doesnt need human trials for side effects etc.

Promising news about one of the many vaccines in production.

Hospital admissions have not increased, more than 2 weeks after pubs and restaurants reopened.

Lots of reasons to think positive at the moment Smile

Thank you that's great news if they could have it ready by year end - what a difference that would make.

Great news Smile

tobee · 28/08/2020 16:27

I get the feeling we're going to get a great big splurge of good news in the next few months!

Every day more is becoming known. Even where cases rise etc etc they can learn more and more from the data.

Not sure if this is a rehash if something already posted:-

This might be similar to the Apple story but it made me happy so thought I’d share. My mum was telling me about vaccine good news that she heard on radio 4 so I went hunting....

I feel like good news when it arrives will probably come as quite a surprise. I doubt they’d want to count down to it too much as people might opt to just stay home more and wait rather than spend!

Anyway, I’m encouraged by this and it seems to have links to other positive articles that I’ve not got time to follow now (but will later).

Do we think that once the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated, lockdown can effectively end completely before they roll out to the wider population?

I think you have to bear in mind that many of the 'wider population' are vulnerable to some extent, so caution will still be needed for a while.
Jrobhatch29 · 29/08/2020 12:14

Not sure if anyone is interested haha but I found this quite interesting and reassuring. Even the CFR in Spain is very low at the minute. It is a low CFR for people in their 60s and 70s too and climbs once in 80s. It's obviously lower as well really as its not the IFR. Anyway just thought it was quite useful info. Wish we had breakdowns like this for the UK

Lots of good news at the moment!

I heard that the Oxford vaccine is awaiting regulatory approval, no idea how long it takes but a friend who works at a major London teaching hospital has been asked if they were willing to have the vaccine ahead of official approval date to be confirmed but she believes in the next month. They all think it's going to be approved basically. National rollout is unlikely before the end of the year but vulnerable groups will be ahead of that. I'm trying to get more information but stbexh hasn't heard anything else directly from his friend at Oxford alas this week

MsYamada · 29/08/2020 13:00

Thanks for this thread. I've had awful anxiety for a while now and it helps to read posts that are positive.

Thank you so much for this chink of light at the end of what seems to be a ridiculously long tunnel! There are so many people (just in the general population, not NHS staff) who would take the Oxford vaccine now if they could. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long 🙏🏻

That's amazing, thank you. We did get the last update on the vaccine in July didn't we,saying it was safe to use I think? So I'm hoping for an update every 2 months. E.g. hopefully some news in Sept, then announcing it's ready to go for vulnerable groups in Nov/Dec. Imagine if the most vulnerable had been vaccinated by Christmas, that would be amazing.
tobee · 29/08/2020 17:11

I've been trying to work out whether "we'll hear when we hear" or if little hints are being dropped! (Re a vaccine) 🤔

tobee · 29/08/2020 18:18

Did anyone see this? Would be amazing if this was rolled out everywhere at some point (soon hopefully)! Really would deserve to be called a game changer!
