Is anyone else sick of the mask brigade?

I am going to be wearing a face covering from the 24th.
However I’m getting sick of the constant steam of ‘shaming’ on social media especially.
The latest is a passive aggressive meme being shared which says ‘if you don’t like the mask, you definitely won’t like being intubated in the ICU’
I’ve just seen another one on a local page in the style of queen’s ‘we will rock you’. Basically “you’re a big disgrace, spreading your germs all over the place” blah blah blah.
I have anxiety and panic attacks and I am going to struggle wearing one, although I’m going to try my best. There are those who really won’t be able to for various reasons - asthma, copd, autism, other mental health issues and I bet they’re reading these posts feeling awful about themselves.

Just let people who want to go to shops wear a mask and those of us who don’t need/want to go to shops won’t have to, that’s what I’m doing!

HeIenaDove · 18/07/2020 14:59

Our visors have just been dropped off by DB at my mums I will be picking them up later

So those who were getting off on the idea of me and my skin being uncomfortable or developing my previous skin problem in a mask will now have to wank over something else

ilovesooty · 18/07/2020 15:26

I wouldn't dream of challenging someone in public as I'm not privy to their challenges and personal difficulties. Surely no one likes wearing a mask but I'm already doing so because I don't have an exemption and I feel it's the right thing to do. If people can't wear masks I'm hopeful that they'll observe social distancing and I don't feel they should be met with suspicion and disapproval.

I am getting tired though of the strident vocalisation of those who keep carrying on about simply not wanting to wear one. Just shut the fuck up and stay at home then.

Nobody is getting off on the idea of causing anyone discomfort or health problems. Nobody.

I've seen people wearing the visors and they look like a good alternative. Maybe even better. Something to be positive about, surely?

HeIenaDove · 18/07/2020 15:32

@Darker go and read what has been posted by GreytExpectations

HeIenaDove · 18/07/2020 15:33

Japan have cooled masks in vending machines for people to buy so more comfortable in hot weather.

There is nothing that prevents you from sticking your mask in the fridge and wearing it then if that's more comfortable for you.

Why does have to be all throwaway and single use?

Sockwomble · 18/07/2020 15:56

"If those people really are not able to wear a mask, it's likely that their lives are not anywhere normal anyway."

What does this mean?

MessAllOver · 18/07/2020 15:56

there are a lot of sanctimonious types about and if it wasn't masks, it would be something else. Just let it go over you. Like water off a ducks back.

I'm a little puzzled by what members of the (for want of a better description) "non-mask wearing brigade" actually want?

If you want people to stop online and public abuse/victimisation of people not wearing a mask, I'm totally with you...I think vitriol of this kind is absolutely disgraceful given that, as many have pointed out, there are valid reasons why some people can't wear a mask.

If you want us all to agree with you that mask wearing is pointless and we shouldn't have to do it in shops and on public transport, I'm afraid I don't agree with you. While it's true that the science is inconclusive, there are tentative indications that infection rates are lower in countries with high mask-wearing rates (Japan comes to mind here).

If you want to be free to enter shops and use public transport without wearing a mask, you can probably get away with it. The very few times I've been on buses lately, the drivers have not challenged anyone not wearing a mask.

If you want people around you not to regard you as being an increased infection risk if you're not wearing a mask, I'm afraid that's not really fair on them. You ARE an increased risk. It makes me very uneasy when people cough or sneeze near me and they're not wearing masks.

In the UK people with autism and learning disabilities are supported to live as 'normal' a life as possible. At my son's school they are all severely autistic but went to supermarkets and other shops and to cafes and other places. Likewise do all the adults I know of at specialist college and in supported living. They are not shut away.

toothpasteinmytea · 18/07/2020 16:07

Yes fed up of sanctimonious bores who like to remind us all over their social media that they stay inside, wear a mask etc because they aren't selfish. Meanwhile people who don't wear a mask are awful humans who are out to kill others.

I'll bet every one of the smug gits has endangered lives in another way, whether it's careless driving, over-consumption that's contributing to the climate change that is killing people, etc

Catspaw123 · 18/07/2020 16:35

Just had an update on Twitter from our local public transport company remining people if they see people on the tram with no mask dont decide yourself to challenge them or film them (people have been filming non mask wearers and posting this to Facebook). There may be a perfectly valid reason and people challenging non mask wearers is causing arguments on trams which staff have to sort

Are you saying that all of those who are encouraged to go out and about can't wear masks?
Lweji · 18/07/2020 16:37

Or can't learn and get used to wear masks?

mummabear1967 · 18/07/2020 16:37

I don’t want to wear a mask either, I’m not used to it and I just don’t like the thought of it but if it helps reduce the spread then I’ll suck it up and get on with it. Then I can take it off again once I’m out of the shops

HelloMissus · 18/07/2020 16:47

Covid has made some very dull people feel very very important.
They were literally hero’s for sitting at home. And they could endlessly spy on friends and neighbours and find them lacking.
For a time the authorities were even listening.

Indeed and how cowardly to film people and upload to social media. But totally confirms to the type of person who is a Covid mask zealot.

bigknickersbigknockers · 18/07/2020 16:54

I totally agree OP. Im sick of the virtue signalling on SM from people thinking they are bloody perfect. "OOhh no I wont be going in a pub thank you very much" but then complaining that she cant get her gel polish on her toes and her Dennis Healy eyebrows done. Wendy.... wind your neck in.

Lweji · 18/07/2020 16:57

Have you considered that some of those people may be vulnerable, and rightly scared, but want to be able to lead normal lives as much as possible?

Funnily enough, people who agree that masks (or whatever measure) are important, don't seem to get upset that other pp post about the importance of masks (or whatever measure).

Sockwomble · 18/07/2020 16:57

"Are you saying that all of those who are encouraged to go out and about can't wear masks?"

They are all encouraged to go out and about. Learning independence skills is part of the curriculum for all older pupils in special schools. They aren’t going out at the moment but that is true of children in all schools but visits to places in the community and independence training is expected to resume in September.

The vast majority of students in my son's school will not cope with masks. Many will not understand what they are for and will see it as someone trying to force something on their face and with them also having major sensory issues there is no chance of them keeping them on and every chance of them becoming extremely distressed

And are you saying that there are over 500 k people like this in the UK?

Presumably they have learnt to cope with other things they initially found distressing. I'd suspect many can eventually learn to use them, or a face shield.

Sockwomble · 18/07/2020 17:26

I said that some people with autism and or learning disabilities can wear masks and some cannot.
You no nothing about these disabilities so what you suspect isn't really relevant.

Sockwomble · 18/07/2020 17:27

You clearly don't know what distressing feels like and looks like in this context.

Itsallaboutyou666 · 18/07/2020 20:15

Im heartily peed off with the anti mask brigade. Try to complain to relatives who were not able to be with their loved ones who died in hospital the only way they could communicate and say goodbye was by the nurses holding up a iPad so they could see their loved ones for one last time. So think of that when you start winding about it that makes your face red and you can't breathe and and and what more excuses could you come up with ???can't wait for the 24th to come along. sorry to sound so bad-tempered about it but that's how I feel
