Is anyone else sick of the mask brigade?

I am going to be wearing a face covering from the 24th.
However I’m getting sick of the constant steam of ‘shaming’ on social media especially.
The latest is a passive aggressive meme being shared which says ‘if you don’t like the mask, you definitely won’t like being intubated in the ICU’
I’ve just seen another one on a local page in the style of queen’s ‘we will rock you’. Basically “you’re a big disgrace, spreading your germs all over the place” blah blah blah.
I have anxiety and panic attacks and I am going to struggle wearing one, although I’m going to try my best. There are those who really won’t be able to for various reasons - asthma, copd, autism, other mental health issues and I bet they’re reading these posts feeling awful about themselves.

@HeresMe And proper gaslighty too.

You want masks for free?

Or do you want cooled masks for free? Are the cooled Japanese masks free? I thought you said they come from vending machines.

But yes, fuck the environment? You know what happened when something is free? It gets discarded everywhere.

Many places do give out masks, hospitals do, some shops do. Fabric masks cost pennies per wear.

I am doing better, I am reusing mine.

No need to shout, BTW unless it makes you feel better when you do. Flowers

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Where was your moral outrage when people were going on ski trips and cruises and Cheltenham. After people had already been well warned about the virus. THEN it wasnt about caring for others was it THEN it was all about them losing money/deposit if they dont go.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/07/2020 18:02

Ah, here we go.....

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 18:04

"You want masks for free?"

I thought this was about saving lives

Not personally no. We can manage. But do i think they should be handed out to families on a low income. EVERYONE on a low income. YES.

Italy have done it.

HeresMe · 19/07/2020 18:05

@helenadove

They are gaslighty its scary.

The communist regimes used fear of what might happen if you didn't inform. Now people revel in it.

daisymay133 · 19/07/2020 18:07

Masks are only required for shops and transport so don’t see the point

We can walk about, go the gym, cinema, pubs and restaurants without so why bother 🤷‍♀️

If it applies to all indoor it would make sense but it doesn’t

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 18:08

@HeresMe I KNOW right. It was perfectly legal to go on cruises , ski trips etc at that time.

Its perfectly legal not to wear a face covering until the 24th.

The latter gets the outrage The former doesnt.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/07/2020 18:12

Sorry, pressed too soon. I’m on the train and my mask is in the way.

I’m not in the slightest morally outraged. I’ve been told I lack morals anyway.

Andy Burnham has just been on Channel 4 news talking about poor housing and the gig economy/zero hour contracts and the inability to self isolate because they wont be paid. Shit like this is what will cause spikes. Burnham pointed out that employers had received a lot of financial help and now it was time for them to do their bit and pay so their employees could afford to self isolate.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/07/2020 18:51

There should be punishments for knowingly going out with symptoms. People shouldn’t even need telling to stay home if I’ll or have to self isolate.

I don’t think masks should be free. Those on low incomes already get enough help and there has to be some incentive to working otherwise even more people will simply opt out.

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 18:58

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss They cant stay home if that means they cant pay rent.

Time for you to own it.

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 18:59

Im taking DHs advice and applying for my Italian passport when this is done.

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 19:01

And IM the one with no compassion re Covid Hmm

Alsohuman · 19/07/2020 19:05

It must be lovely on your planet.

Pray tell what all this abundant help is, please? Because I'm low income and I don't get any.

And heaven HELP we provide those on low incomes with free masks. Scrounging layabouts that they are, potentially getting masks which cost all of pennies to make! Never mind though eh, poor people are disposable. Why would a (Tory) government want to protect them to the tune of pennies per person when they've got their own nests to feather.

EstuaryBird · 19/07/2020 19:59

I’ll tell you what I’m sick of...I’m sick of all the sneers comments about the ‘mask brigade’ and ‘sheeple’ and ‘muzzles’ etc etc.

Just get your heads round the fact that I wear a mask to do my best to not make other people ill. If you don’t like it then just fucking ignore it. I don’t need your approval. I couldn’t give a shit what you think.

In Tesco this afternoon (with very few people wearing masks) and some arsehole man fucking shouting abuse in my face because I wore a mask to go shopping and apparently he finds this offensive...dickhead.

If you don’t want to wear a mask then just don’t but don’t fucking condemn people that do. Just keep your breath out of space and leave me alone.

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 20:05

i havent. And the bloke you came across was a twunt.

HeIenaDove · 19/07/2020 20:06

Did you report him to the manager/supervisor?

InMySpareTime · 19/07/2020 21:52

Anyone concerned about people in poverty not having access to face masks, you can make/buy masks and donate them to your local food bank. They put them in food parcels so recipients can access public transport.

Mummyshark2018 · 19/07/2020 22:15

I have no problem wearing one although they are not particularly comfortable but this sums up how I feel atm.

Clever quote but demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding about what masks are being used to achieve.

A more accurate metaphor would be ‘going to an orgy and only using a condom with the first person you sleep with’
