Had an appointment booked today and I've been looking forward to it for months.

On arrival I had to have my temperature taken and was told it was too high to be allowed in.

I laughed as I assumed she was joking since I felt fine, I Wfh and haven't been anywhere!!
Not even a supermarket.

She told me it was 37.3 and she would have to cancel my appointment!!!!

I am so upset, I've had to rebook and she has nothing for 8 weeks 😣

I called the Dr as I thought I must be coming down with something without knowing, but the GP told me that this was a normal range temperature and particularly for that time of day (app was 3pm)

So what wasn't I allowed in 😢

I felt like a kid at Christmas today going to the salon, I cried all the way home that my appointment was cancelled! 😖

You shouldn't be driving when you're crying.

Is that all you took from this thread?

No. I took a lot from the thread but I couldn't be arsed explaining what and why just for someone bawling because they couldn't have their hair cut.

My contribution was valid. You cannot drive safely if you are crying. I can imagine the call to the insurer "I was so upset I was crying and didn't see the pedestrian on the crossing". And yes, this does happen. I have interviewed more than a few people who have been in an RTC due to crying.

In that case I shouldn't have driven back from the vet when I had to have my labrador put to sleep. I should have stayed there indefinitely.

Plenty of people have to drive whilst upset. It is inevitable. You have to try and control it.

sothebellsring · 16/07/2020 19:16

I run around 36.8 in the morning and 37.3 in the afternoon. Maybe try a morning appointment next time. They were BU though and will end up losing business this way.

onedayinthefuture · 16/07/2020 19:20

37.3 can be quite normal for a woman after she's ovulated 🙈

MinorArcana · 16/07/2020 20:24

@brababab OP has said that the hairdresser used an oral thermometer that went under the tongue, not a forehead thermometers.

MinorArcana · 16/07/2020 20:26

@brababab sorry, hadn’t spotted that the thread had gone over to another page! Blush

Miljea · 17/07/2020 00:42

A) You cried all the way home, and B),despite your own research revealing that your temperature was normal, you went to your GP......

Seriously?

Okaaaay.

ttim985y · 17/07/2020 01:03

my temperature is normally in the 37 point something range. That's a perfectly acceptable temperature

BeTheHokeyMan · 17/07/2020 01:08

See this is what I'm worried sick about - I'm fat and always hot. I'm actively avoiding anywhere that requires a temp check to enter in case it's high and I'm turned away. My anxiety is sky high over it

Medievalist · 17/07/2020 09:08

BeTheHokeyMan Out of curiosity, what places are you so anxious about being turned away from?

BeTheHokeyMan · 17/07/2020 11:27

If I was slim I wouldn't care about been turned away from anywhere but unfortunately when you are fat people tend to blame everything on that ! I live in a small village with two shops and one has a temperature checker at the door so I won't go there at all. It's just the pitying looks and the judgement that I've become used to as a fat person that makes me anxious.

Randomfires · 17/07/2020 11:29

She’ll be turning a lot of people away if she maintains over 37 is a temperature. Mine reads 37.5 in the afternoon and that’s totally normal. The Covid-19 guide was 37.8 if I remember correctly

Randomfires · 17/07/2020 11:30

@BeTheHokeyMan your external temperature doesn’t affect your internal temperature unless it’s extreme hot or cold. Your body regulates to 37 degrees!

BeTheHokeyMan · 17/07/2020 12:39

Ah ok so even if I'm feeling extremely hot and sweaty my internal temperature could be normal ? Well that's very reassuring to hear thank you

Sadly it's not quite as simple as that. I don't want to make you anxious - I just don't want you to be freaked out if your temperature does read high.

Your core temperature is not affected by the outside environment (except in really extreme situations e.g. if you have hypothermia). But normal thermometers measure your surface temperature. This does vary to some extent if you are hot because one of the ways that the body maintains a constant core temperature is to divert blood to near the skin to cool down. This is why people look flushed when they are warm.

But..as I said in an earlier post, surface thermometers tend to read slightly low anyway. So the chances are that, even if your skin is warm when your temperature is taken, the thermometer will read as normal. I really wouldn't be put off going to a shop.

BeTheHokeyMan · 17/07/2020 14:16

Thank you so much I appreciate your reply and explanation @mrsnoah2020 and also yours too @randomfires you have both helped ease my worries

Alicatz66 · 17/07/2020 17:31

Oh no ... I’d have been gutted too .. I think it’s uncharted territory for everyone.. they are probably scared of breaking any rules ... I’d go somewhere else .. then you can always go to your next appointment and just explain you couldn’t wait 8 weeks ?

curlymom · 17/07/2020 17:32

So they are now medical professionals?! It’s pretty hot today and if you were rushing around that would be normal. They should have let you have a drink and get your breath back then try again. Try booking elsewhere?

FelicisNox · 17/07/2020 17:38

It's not a true high temp but it's their business.

Neither of you is in the wrong really, just find another salon.

dustyparadeground · 17/07/2020 17:38

It's over 100 or 38 you need to worry about. Hairdresser will be losing a lot of business turning you and others away measuring 37.3

I'd agree with this, when her takings are down on what she thinks they should be, she'll rapidly ditch the temperature checks.
Zenne · 17/07/2020 17:52

That's not a fever. That's normal range! Next time go with a nurse pocket book which shows normal stats / ranges. I studied healthcare and bought one from amazon uk.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 17/07/2020 17:57

I’m sorry but couldn’t get past the temperature of 33 degrees being fine because it’s been run past lawyers and it’s a multinational company. Well both are know. For being blood sucking vampires so maybe people being near death is normal in their world.

That post has really cheered me up no end.

Maybe they should use a rectal thermometer, their employees are probably used to being fucked in the arse at least on a metaphorical basis!

Zoejj77 · 17/07/2020 17:57

Yeah 37.3 what a joke. I thought 37.8 was the gauge. I wouldn’t be happy if either maybe the person read the result wrong

NicolaC17 · 17/07/2020 17:58

It’s a difficult one because they need to air on the side of caution. 37.3 for me would be a temperature but I’ve always tan a low temperature.

linsey2581 · 17/07/2020 17:58

I work in a dialysis ward and we don’t allow anyone in that has a temperature that is over 37.7. Sorry but your hairdresser is correct to refuse anyone that has a raised temperature. Better safe than sorry.
