Had an appointment booked today and I've been looking forward to it for months.

On arrival I had to have my temperature taken and was told it was too high to be allowed in.

I laughed as I assumed she was joking since I felt fine, I Wfh and haven't been anywhere!!
Not even a supermarket.

She told me it was 37.3 and she would have to cancel my appointment!!!!

I am so upset, I've had to rebook and she has nothing for 8 weeks 😣

I called the Dr as I thought I must be coming down with something without knowing, but the GP told me that this was a normal range temperature and particularly for that time of day (app was 3pm)

So what wasn't I allowed in 😢

I felt like a kid at Christmas today going to the salon, I cried all the way home that my appointment was cancelled! 😖

This worries me as my DS runs on about 37.5 and above all the time which is normal for him. If he's under this it means he's ill.

cologne4711 · 16/07/2020 14:30

she'd be excluding a lot of women during and post menopause

Yep.

Topseyt · 16/07/2020 15:00

@Stopyourhavering64 yes, perhaps s/he works in the reptile house at London Zoo.

SmilesAreFree2020 · 16/07/2020 15:20

They will never let me in then since I'm peri-menstrual and my temperature is always on the warmer side of the normal spectrum!

How stupid

lifeafter50 · 16/07/2020 15:23

So sorry that happened to you. I had (kind of the opposite yesterday in that I was rushing to meet someone for my first lunch on a restaurant since ever -was late, couldn't park, it was hot and I was stressed and hurrying. When I got there was horrified they got the thermometer out and exploded bed that mine would be high not because ofCovid but...yadda yadda -probably making them suspicious of me. To my surprise it was normal tho I felt extremely hot. DS said 'yeah but if you sweat as much as you are now it will cool you down' Gee thanks, son!

NiknicK · 16/07/2020 15:27

Oh I’d have been fuming. I’m only in my 30’s but I’m officially in peri menopause and I’m always hot even in winter. My temperature is very often high yet I am not poorly or displaying signs of any illness what so ever. If this happened to me I’d have been furious and would’ve given the hairdresser a piece of my mind.

SmilesAreFree2020 · 16/07/2020 15:38

33 degrees is normal @heartsonacake...... oh my - that's a medical emergency.

lifeafter50 · 16/07/2020 15:39

Christ!! I hope the government don't read this!!! Hancock will be doing a press conference where his next set of "guidance" will be establishments are to take customers temperate rectally for accuracy. He'll be saying it's not a request, it's an instruction!
I guess it's one way he could make us "stay alert"!!! *
😀😀😀😀
This has made me howl with laughter!
Sorry OP, I know it must have been a disappointment but please know that you have cheered up someone, who was feeling down, from some of the hilarious posts on your thread.

SmilesAreFree2020 · 16/07/2020 15:42

Rectally is usually one of the most accurate.

Oh my! I think I will avoid the hairdressers as a peri-menopausal woman for the moment

Topseyt · 16/07/2020 15:49

I keep having mental images of hairdressers outside their salons shoving thermometers up customers' arses! Grin

betteliefsen · 16/07/2020 15:59

@CloudsCoveredTheSky

You couldn't get a haircut? I'm so sorry, that is terribly upsetting. How utterly horrendous for you.
Quite.

The OP is so hard done by.

Some people clearly need this inspirational meme.

I'm looking forward to seeing @heartsonacake joining Matt Hancock for the 5pm briefing today. He's been after someone who can represent a multinational corporation and reassure people hypothermia is nothing to worry about.

@heartsonacake

They were right not to let you in; it’s important they take extra safety precautions.

I take my employees temperature every day; I’ve never had any of them being anywhere near 37. Highest I’ve had was 35; most are around 33-34. Your hairdresser will be seeing the same, and she doesn’t want to take a chance.

What weird place do you work at then? The average norm is 36.5. If the highest you have had is 35 then you have some freaking weird people in your workplace.
back2good · 16/07/2020 16:38

I'd be upset, too, OP. Think about all the menopausal women experiencing hot flashes at the 'wrong time'...

Surely they could have waited a few minutes then taken it again.

Morecheesywotsits · 16/07/2020 16:43

OP I'm sorry, I get that it was upsetting not to be able to do something you were looking forwards to for so long

I reckon the poster works at the Ice Hotel.

You shouldn't be driving when you're crying.

Is that all you took from this thread?

No. I took a lot from the thread but I couldn't be arsed explaining what and why just for someone bawling because they couldn't have their hair cut.

My contribution was valid. You cannot drive safely if you are crying. I can imagine the call to the insurer "I was so upset I was crying and didn't see the pedestrian on the crossing". And yes, this does happen. I have interviewed more than a few people who have been in an RTC due to crying.

Well here is definitely a prime quote for the 'most bonkers thing you ever heard on a thread' thread! Grin

Analcolico · 16/07/2020 17:33

I would be going elsewhere to have my hair cut, OP. Regardless of whether a temperature of 99.1 is normal for you or not, telling you to stick a thermometer under your tongue is not acceptable. I am not in the slightest bit bothered by Covid, but I am very bothered by the Big Brother element it has unearthed.

brababab · 16/07/2020 17:34

Not read through all the posts. Sorry if this has already been mentioned. Forehead guns tend to read up to .5 degrees lower than an oral reading so your temp could actually be up to 37.8. Sensible hairdresser.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/07/2020 17:36

If the norm at heart’s workplace is 33-34 and someone had 35, then surely in normal terms it would be 36-37 and 38 so that person had a fever?!

brababab · 16/07/2020 17:39

Just seen it was under the tongue Confused
