Had an appointment booked today and I've been looking forward to it for months.

On arrival I had to have my temperature taken and was told it was too high to be allowed in.

I laughed as I assumed she was joking since I felt fine, I Wfh and haven't been anywhere!!
Not even a supermarket.

She told me it was 37.3 and she would have to cancel my appointment!!!!

I am so upset, I've had to rebook and she has nothing for 8 weeks 😣

I called the Dr as I thought I must be coming down with something without knowing, but the GP told me that this was a normal range temperature and particularly for that time of day (app was 3pm)

So what wasn't I allowed in 😢

I felt like a kid at Christmas today going to the salon, I cried all the way home that my appointment was cancelled! 😖

@MrsNoah2020

Drinking a cool drink won't affect your core body temperature much no, but what about if your taking your temp with an oral thermometer? I've just had some water with two ice cubes in and done mine a few times after drinking it:

Before: 36.4
After 1 minute: 35.2
After 5 minutes: 35.8
After 10 minutes: 36.1
After 15 minutes: 36.3

Obviously my core temp didn't change much, but my mouth was colder. Would be similar after a hot drink of tea. We used to use oral thermometers on the ward years ago and hated them for this reason!

FishyDuck · 16/07/2020 12:24

I'd be going elsewhere in future OP.

Candyflosscookie · 16/07/2020 12:27

@heartsonacake your assertions have really made my day. Best laugh in ages.
GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
Good luck to you and your dead/hypothermic staff. Really, just fucking google it. Try NHS site. You know, like a random told you. 😄😄😄
33. Hilarious.
😂😂😂
And let them know their equipment is buggered/needs to be operated correctly. Or you're letting people with actual high temps in.
From yet another health professional.

ScribblyGum · 16/07/2020 12:31

Maybe heartsonacake works for a zombie multinational corporation? I bet they run cold.

Candyflosscookie · 16/07/2020 12:31

@Topseyt I posted before catching up with the rest of the thread and hadn't realised how many other people have @heartsonacake surely they must get the message by now. Grin although doesn't sound like they will be easily swayed 🤣

Candyflosscookie · 16/07/2020 12:32

And yes OP I'd just find another salon.

The80sweregreat · 16/07/2020 12:34

I would find another salon : my one didn't do my temperature , but I did have to wear a mask etc. As a woman in her mid fifties I do get hot so they might have turned me away too if they did this!

DevonLulu · 16/07/2020 12:37

God help your poor GP! As if they’ve not got enough to worry about - a perfectly well women with a possible low grade temperature crying over a haircut!

randomsabreuse · 16/07/2020 12:39

Ear thermometers are very user dependent. I can get consistent readings across the family because I've learned the exact angle that gets a sensible (not 34.7 or so) reading from both DC - in fact a low reading is almost certainly I've not positioned the end right!

DH is a vet and just can't get the angle right in DS. That said I'd struggle with a rectal thermometer - however I do know you are trained to make sure it goes in next to the skin and not in the middle, or you're likely just going to measure the temperature of the patient's faeces...

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 16/07/2020 12:46

@LunaNorth

Does anyone know if heartsonacake works for a large multinational company? Only, s/he hasn’t mentioned it...

🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Stopyourhavering64 · 16/07/2020 12:48
@heartsonacake has had her arse well and truly handed to her on a plate. Some of it from health care professionals.

Her employees are mainly hypothermic. I picture them wandering around with icicles hanging off them.
I was thinking her employer's must be reptiles?!

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 16/07/2020 12:48
@heartsonacake

Do you work for Iceland? Grin
I love this!

Isthisfinallyit · 16/07/2020 12:48

37.3 would be a raised temperature for me and would mean I wasn't fully well. I have in the past felt quite poorly at only 37.1. My normal healthy temperature is 36.6 like the vast majority of people.

Well yes, but for me that would be my average daily temperature, and I'm pretty sure I haven't had an ongoing fever for the last decades. Refusing me on a basis of a 37.3 temp would mean a permanent ban in my case, since I don't go lower.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/07/2020 12:54

It's sensible for the hairdresser to take precautions
BUT
she needs to learn the normal temperature range and increase her threshhold accordingly !

BigChocFrenzy · 16/07/2020 12:55

and she'd be excluding a lot of women during and post menopause !

GreyTS · 16/07/2020 12:57

@heartsonacake

They were right not to let you in; it’s important they take extra safety precautions.

I take my employees temperature every day; I’ve never had any of them being anywhere near 37. Highest I’ve had was 35; most are around 33-34. Your hairdresser will be seeing the same, and she doesn’t want to take a chance.

😂😂😂 wtf, this thread is such a useful reminder of of how a little information is a dangerous thing 🤣
GreyTS · 16/07/2020 13:01

@2155User

All my energy in this thread has gone to laughing at *@heartsonacake who thinks that a temperature of 33 is normal, thinks the NHS website isn't a good source of information and disregards everything because they work for a multinational corporation*
I imagine it's a case of internet people not being who they claim to be Hmm
Jocasta2018 · 16/07/2020 13:01

On a lighter note about COVID & body temperature.
Has anyone taken their temperature whilst in the middle of a menopausal hot flush?
I did and appear to be on the verge of spontaneously combusting....

Haenow · 16/07/2020 13:26

I understand your frustration, OP. I must say though, this thread has some hilariously batshit comments and I love it. Grin
Hearts has probably gone back to her igloo.

Whoopsmahoot · 16/07/2020 13:34

To be honest I would assume she was running late or double booked. Find a new hairdresser.

whereorwhere · 16/07/2020 14:16

Well it's a pain in the butt but crying over it seems a little dramatic

whereorwhere · 16/07/2020 14:17

@hearts are your clients dead?

BilboBercow · 16/07/2020 14:22

The people here absolutely determined that they must know what a normal temperature is and isn't is hilarious. Yes you and your non-medical workplace definitely know better than the NHS, GPs or the national guidance on Covid19.
Carry on.

HeIenaDove · 16/07/2020 14:24

@PhilCornwall1 Your post gave me a much needed laugh. Thank You Grin

@Whoopsmahoot I was thinking exactly the same thing. They have double booked and are trying to get out of it.

This is just another reason not to bother with going to the hairdresser .

I did find it a bit of a chore anyway pre pandemic but did it because i liked the end result. Now with masks and temp checks added in (i understand why but id never pass it) i get too hot Some of us have to walk to town. We are not all in air conditioned cars. My temp is always up during my period So if my period showed up the day of my appointment i would have to cancel. I wouldnt be making a trip all for nothing. Plus we have to wear masks in supermarkets now and id rather do that as less often as possible (im waiting on some visors but obvs they cant be worn while having hair done.

Another reason to put on the shan"t be bothering list.
