If masks are made mandatory in England, will this put you off high street shopping?

It’s far easier just to get everything delivered. Who wants to queue for shops and get squirted with sanitiser and fanny about masks, got better things to do

Angel2702 · 13/07/2020 16:24

No I’d rather masks were worn in enclosed spaces. Especially when winter colds etc are back in circulation.

EnlightenedOwl · 13/07/2020 16:25

@Fosler

Yes. They are very unhealthy. There is a huge amount of bacteria in your nostrils so you would be breathing it out into your mask and breathing it back in again, repeatedly. As someone who suffered an extremely painful sinus infection for months there's no way I'm wearing a mask.
They are disgusting and unhygienic
Fedup21 · 13/07/2020 16:26

I would be far more likely to visit the shops if masks were made compulsory. I haven’t been to a non-essential shop since the start of March-I would go happily if I knew other people would need to wear masks.

I think they should be worn in schools as well.

Blobby10 · 13/07/2020 16:28

Yes - I find them unpleasant to wear and they would add more unpleasantness to an already unpleasant experience. i don't enjoy clothes shopping at the best of times but I do need to try clothes and shoes on before buying as i seem to be a weird shape and there isn't one style or size that I can say for certain will fit or suit me. My last three attempts at buying online resulted in the entire orders being returned and me having to wait over 3 weeks for my refund!

I went to my local High Street two weeks ago for some T shirts which I could get away with not trying on ----so long as they are long enough. I held the T shirt on hanger up against me to check the length and got told off by the shop assistant when I put it back as it wasn't long enough (she sprayed the hanger). I was barked at again for holding other people up who wanted something further up the one way system than I was as I was trying to decide between two colours, two ladies in front of me got barked at for asking if they really needed to sanitise again as they'd done it in the shop next door and come straight on from there - Ok shop rules but the barking tone of voice was not necessary!!

The whole experience was rushed and unpleasant so I will certainly not be using my High Street until such procedures have been cut back or better still out.

SoftBlocks · 13/07/2020 16:29

No, it would make me more likely to go.

ChaToilLeam · 13/07/2020 16:29

@cologne4711

No it wouldn't. And if it stops people from faffing around in shops, so much the better.

MNers who don't live in the UK - is there this much debate over masks where you live? And if not, why are the British so childish about it?

There definitely isn’t. Everyone here, apart from a minority, is just getting on with it. For shopping and public transport, it’s mandatory. If you go to a restaurant then you take your mask off at the table and replace when you leave. It’s fine. Apart from people who have health reasons not to wear one, or disabilities, I can’t see the problem.
DuineArBith · 13/07/2020 16:31

No, but I'm afraid I don't do that much high street shopping anyway.

DarkMintChocolate · 13/07/2020 16:35

No, I have not been shopping on the High St, other than to go to the pharmacy since lockdown. I would go, if it were mandatory to wear a mask.

I always wear a N99 respirator; and it reminds me to not touch my face at all.

nocoolnamesleft · 13/07/2020 16:42

No it won't put me off. It would make me much more likely to go shopping.

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/07/2020 16:43

Yes, although I haven't been shopping (apart from for food) since shops reopened. I am shopping online if I need things.

It's bad enough queuing up for the supermarket and going around the one way system/faffing with hand sanitiser etc. Necessary but a pain so I don't want to have to do it in other shops.

I may have to begrudgingly do a trip to Clarks late August for DS school shoes.

bodgeitandscarper · 13/07/2020 16:46

No, I'd be more comfortable with everyone wearing one. Not a great shopper anyway though.

Oldandcobwebby · 13/07/2020 16:52

No. I'd feel much happier about going shopping if everyone was wearing a mask. Anything that mitigates against me (and you) catching this awful disease is a good thing.

ScribblyGum · 13/07/2020 16:53

No, the opposite. Currently actively avoiding shops. Would be much more likely to go into town if the majority were wearing masks.

Hmm
ZombieLizzieBennet · 13/07/2020 16:59

I already didn't like shopping, wouldn't do it recreationally, bought second hand whenever possible and only went onto the high street where necessary. Masks will make no difference to that.

EggysMom · 13/07/2020 17:02

Yes. I'm happy to wear a mask for essential food shopping, but it would make me refrain from any kind of recreational shopping, such as for clothes. It's not pleasant to wear one, it would detract from the experience.

HeIenaDove · 13/07/2020 17:12

@Fosler Yes The bacteria that caused my recurrent facial impetigo colonized in my nostrils , However if i came across attitudes like this while i had a flare up due to wearing a mask id be happy to share it if people want proof!!

Grin

Because of course it would be far better to breathe all that stuff out onto someone else.

GameSetMatch · 13/07/2020 17:26

I won’t avoid the high street but will probably go less, i think it should be mandatory though!

Triangularbubble · 13/07/2020 17:28

No, because until I can actually try clothes on and don’t have to faff with queuing, one way systems and endless rules, I’m not going back anyway. I already only shop online or in supermarkets for electronics, toys, pet supplies, most furniture, bedding, electricals etc and any clothes that don’t depend much on fit. I don’t find shopping or browsing a leisure activity and if I can’t try anything on there’s no benefit to me in going to a shop. I already wear a mask happily enough for an hour a week in Tesco, if I really had to go to a physical shop for something it would be ok.

Lindy2 · 13/07/2020 17:34

No. I would actually be more likely to shop if people were wearing masks as it would be safer.

Whilst too many people are walking around without masks I will stay away as much as possible.

HappyHammy · 13/07/2020 17:43

I would rather wear a soft mask out shopping than a hard plastic ventilator mask in ITU 24/7. Complete no brainer in my family.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 13/07/2020 17:44

yes

So would I. Doesn’t stop my debilitating panic attacks when I put one on though 🤷🏻‍♀️
