With this virus England now needs to be treated separately to the rest of the UK

When you look at the daily figures the death rate in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is usually always now 0 or very low single digits with even infection rates in the single digits per day.

England on the other hand is recording 100+ death rates most days and a few hundred new cases. The fact Scotland, Wales and N Ireland are so low is giving England a false sense of security.

Therefore we're at the point where England's figures should be reported separately. The other home nations have took the virus seriously and not rushed to ease restrictions until the rates were low enough and more stringent rules.

It's not the 'UK' that is announcing more deaths every day than the rest of EU put together it's England announcing more deaths than the rest of Europe including the home nations.

Close the border.............

My DM believes that Sturgeon has done an amazing job.

She has done better than Boris, I'll give her that.

But my county has far fewer cases of CV compared to where my mum lives. She doesn't realise that. Perhaps due to the messaging coming from the SNP.

@AntiHop

Population of England 55 million Population of Scotland 5.5 million

Of course there are more cases in England. Plus there's more area of population density in England.

To be fair Scotland is recording zero deaths daily for days now (and very low figures before that). There was 180 deaths in UK the other day, all in England. 10% of that isn't 0.

That is not correct. Those deaths were reported 'the other day' but the vast majority will have occured earlier, some of them weeks earlier.

what we would really need to know is when the people in England were infected.

Scotland has many fewer cases than England.

When it was very widespread in England and limited tests, it was not so prevalent in Scotland.

A lot of the lower death rate is probably due to where the initial outbreaks were.

The size and population density will also help control infections.

I really hope it stays low in all of Scotland and the rest of the UK too.

Perhaps that is something you should start hoping for instead of gloating about how well Scotland has done.

The UK as a whole could have and should have done a lot better. Nicola Sturgeon has some serious questions to answer when this is over, the same as Boris and his cronies do.

I'm in fecking Yorkshire. If we're dividing into Scotland & England for lockdowns & I have to be lumped in with Cornwall I'm going to tell t'council man to f off. Imaginary lines dividing us & them is what caused every bleeding war in history. Never knew the traffic warden from threads existed in real life

HamishDent · 13/07/2020 20:10

I live in Scotland and I’m fed up with the divide this is creating between us and England. Of course England are going to have more cases; they are more densely populated.

Sorry for the blatant cheekiness but can I use this thread to ask our Scottish friends a question: what is the likelihood of weddings going ahead (100 guests) in Scotland late September?

Timeforanotherusername · 13/07/2020 20:25

Mike i would say very unlikely.

Late September it would have to be inside most likely.

I can't see things improving enough for that.

Have a look at the different phases though.

And if there was a ceilidh...........

MikeFromSpaced · 13/07/2020 20:30

Ah thanks, Time! I can’t see it going ahead but the bride and groom haven’t said much on the matter, apart from ‘we’re still planning for X date’ Confused
