It’s a slogan not a fiscal policy.
It won’t get anywhere near the wealthiest families. Just a lot of people living in London and the SE.

mum2jakie · 05/07/2020 19:22

We'll all end up paying, one way or another!

WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:25

Urgh! Why do they think that because you earn £50,000 a year each you're 'wealthy'

OP posts:
WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:25

Strapped as it is!!!! 😩😩😩😩

LoisLittsLover · 05/07/2020 19:26

It's not worth getting paid over £100,000, you have to really really jump up to make it worth it once you account for additional tax and removal of things like funded childcare. It's so silly because if things were more gradual people wouldn't mind so much, but it makes it stupid to accept any jobs or pay increase that take you over.

newphoneswhodis · 05/07/2020 19:32

Oh didums. Must be so hard. Poor you.

WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:34

@lois agreed!!!!

WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:35

@newphonewhodis how much lemon have you had today?

OP posts:
GreekOddess · 05/07/2020 19:36

Did she specify what she meant by the wealthiest?

If she is talking hrt i.e. over £50k earners then Kier Starmer's positive start will mean nothing as he will have alienated the middle classes.

AriettyHomily · 05/07/2020 19:36

I don't even know where to start with one. Ffs.

WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:38

@greek £50k earns in one household aka £100,000 or over

OP posts:
WellDoneBridge · 05/07/2020 19:39

@arietty what do you mean?

OP posts:
GreekOddess · 05/07/2020 19:40

One £50k earner in each household? How does that translate to £100k? I don't know what you mean?

AlpineBell · 05/07/2020 19:47

Think op is trying to say 2 x 50K earners in one household

zonkin · 05/07/2020 19:49

It'll be our children who pay the Coronavirus bill over the next few decades

Triangularbubble · 05/07/2020 19:49

Income =/= wealth

There’s years to go before another election, Ms Dodds is not actually enacting policy at the moment. No need for indignant frothing yet.

GreekOddess · 05/07/2020 19:51

So two higher rate tax payers or just one person who earns over £100K?

Gizmo79 · 05/07/2020 19:55

Surely the government could just get the tax from the companies that use tax havens etc rather than trying to get the money from a certain percentage of the country. I doubt this will happen as far too many Tory voters will get hit.

meow1989 · 05/07/2020 20:06

Personally I am in support of higher earners being taxed higher to ensure equity across the country so i dont think I will be giving you the response you want. I believe that this is a just and fair idea.

How will increasing tax for everyone improve (to a reasonable standard) things for those at the bottom of the earning table? How will increasing tax for noone help?

To put it coldly, someone has to take the hit and those who are least likely to feel it significantly are higher earners.

Yabu. No I'm not a low earner.

Cismyfatarse1 · 05/07/2020 20:08

Have you been to the pub?

ChickenDrumstick · 05/07/2020 20:18

I’m afraid we’re all going to be hit with this, no matter why you earn. Be prepared for higher taxes.

Of course, places like Amazon etc won’t pay a penny of course though, they’ll remain tax free and the rest of us will be paying for this for years.

ChickenDrumstick · 05/07/2020 20:19

*what not why you earn

AldiAisleofCrap · 05/07/2020 20:22

Urgh! Why do they think that because you earn £50,000 a year each you're 'wealthy'
Because those of us with a household income of 100k or 100k + are well off compared to the majority of people in the U.K. . I have no problem with our family paying more tax.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/07/2020 20:22

If your household income is £100k then you are well off. If you're "strapped" on that then you need to make some lifestyle changes. I'm a single parent with a total income of £20k and I live comfortably on that as I adjust my lifestyle accordingly.

damnthatanxiety · 05/07/2020 20:25

Waxonwaxoff0 totally depends where you live. London and parts of the SE are very different from The Wirral
