Really need to be able to access local data on risks like this instead of finding out through news outlets:

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-bradford-and-london-boroughs-among-36-at-risk-areas-that-could-be-just-days-away-from-local-lockdowns-12018594

Not happy at all, why is govt not being transparent with data?

Wigan council put something out in social media this morning saying it was nonsense. Let me see if I can find it

MarshaBradyo · 01/07/2020 11:40

Not my area SE London. Tough going if they do.

Gateshead council also put something out yesterday saying it was nonsense. I think we had had a 100% increase in cases ... from 2 to 4. They basically said it was the media scaremongering.

reinacorriendo · 01/07/2020 11:45

Yes I’m in one of the areas

Don’t think it will make a difference to all pig ignorant twats on my road because they continued to do what they wanted during lockdown. Might keep my employer of my back as apparently living with someone who is extremely clinically vulnerable and her GP said not to come work and even their own risk assessment said not to come in still expected to come to work because it’s changed now but no evidence can be provided eye roll I’d like a lockdown just so my workplace gets shut.

Living with someone who is shielding we don’t do much anyway apart from food shop, exercise and that’s it, so not going to make any difference to me

PotteringAlong · 01/07/2020 11:47

Here was the post. It wasn’t from the council, I was wrong.

HariboHippo · 01/07/2020 11:49

I’m in one of the areas, and also work for the local council in another, and have been told today by our PH team that it’s nonsense. The figures are spun to show a certain narrative. As PP said one area shows a 100% increase but it went from something like 2 to 4?!

RancidOldHag · 01/07/2020 11:50

This was linked to another thread.

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/896777/Weekly_COVID19_report_data_current.xlsx

It includes both pillars 1&2 by upper tier LA

I don't know which are rising/falling, but there are about a dozen with a rate >20 per 100,000. Barnsley, Bradford and Oldham are >35

Any idea who told SKY 36 areas of concern? And which they are?

Realitea · 01/07/2020 11:51

Yes I’m in one of the areas and I can’t say I’m surprised. The amount of people who aren’t taking any precautions is shocking. I walked past a small pub yesterday that was open with people sitting around drinking together! I’ve been laughed at for wearing a mask in the supermarket. The attitude is pretty awful around here.
It wouldn’t bother me if we had to lockdown again, I hope it makes people pay attention to what’s happening.
I’d like to see the detailed numbers though, whether it’s pillar 1 or 2 and where in the county these cases are. Also if it’s between households/which workplaces
We need a lot more information than we’re getting

usedtobeboss3 · 01/07/2020 11:51

Ridiculous use of the data and lazy reporting. Suffolk has been included, for example, because there were something like 3 (up from 2, so '50%'!) new cases last week. Hardly a surge, in a population of 700, 000 across the county...

Alex50 · 01/07/2020 11:55

That list is rubbish it was in the Express paper, I think the government has said it is rubbish, this is the one to look at.

Ulrikaka · 01/07/2020 11:57

Yes and the council has also issued a statement to say it is not true.

PatriciaHolm · 01/07/2020 12:00

That list is RUBBISH. It is based on Pilar one, and just on % growth. Havering is top because it went from 2 to 8 cases. No one really believes they are going to lock down havering based on 8 cases?

The chart posted above shows the areas with greatest current infections , with Leicester clearly at present an outlier.

Realitea · 01/07/2020 12:00

Our local council have said it’s concerning and they need more information to find where these cases are. But after reading further, I think it is a panic about nothing. We had no cases for a long time and this week have had 8.

whatsthatnow74 · 01/07/2020 12:05

I live in York which is on the list. Our local newspaper has reported that this 'spike' is literally one single case and they have asked for clarification from the local council

frozendaisy · 01/07/2020 12:06

Depends where exactly the boarder is drawn! I am working on the assumption it will happen to most around an area of dense populations at some point if Leicester lockdown works.

netflixismysidehustle · 01/07/2020 12:08

I'm in one of those areas. The pillar 2 data not being part of local data is shocking. We have a drive through test centre which could mean a lot more cases. Confused

RedskyAtnight · 01/07/2020 12:08

My area is on that list because we had a recent single (quickly identified and isolated) cluster after weeks of a very low number of cases. Doesn't make the area particularly likely for a local lockdown. Not particularly responsible of the press to put out stories like this and scare people.

Etinox · 01/07/2020 12:09

It's scaremongering I think. The Isle Of Wight, for eg. has 1 case. One infection, not one death. Statistically irrelevant I would have thought!

BonnyWeeOne · 01/07/2020 12:10

How on earth are they going to police lockdowns in a certain few of the London boroughs? Surely the overall movement within London is just so immense that it'd be thoroughly pointless.

pigeon999 · 01/07/2020 12:12

We are on the list, after zero infections for the past month we now have 5 new infection cases (not deaths) so it is hardly an 'outbreak' I can't even start to think about going back into a lockdown, the last one hasn't even ended yet Confused Confused

Chloemol · 01/07/2020 12:12

The data is out there, the bbc news site has information on levels in each area, and there is another site where you can drive data down to your list code

What you mean is you want it handed to you on a plate

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/07/2020 12:13

Whatsthat - I am not surprised! I knew York was at zero recently so it doesn’t take much to make a big rise, if you are only thinking about percentages!

Deelish75 · 01/07/2020 12:14

Yes I am and I'm surprised by it. No more than 2 weeks ago I checked on the BBC website and our borough was doing really well compared to the rest of the county. Yet no other boroughs within our county are on the Sky News list. Not sure what to think.

Our council's website is currently experiencing technical difficulties so can't check with them.
