36 areas in UK at risk for lockdown ‘within days’ - are you in one?

Really need to be able to access local data on risks like this instead of finding out through news outlets:

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-bradford-and-london-boroughs-among-36-at-risk-areas-that-could-be-just-days-away-from-local-lockdowns-12018594

Not happy at all, why is govt not being transparent with data?

Is information from the Zoe App included? Because that largely relies on estimates from reported symptoms from users plus actual tests and then modelled. Unless I've got that totally wrong?

Deelish75 · 01/07/2020 15:37

Just seen the second Guardian article/map and that does follow on from what the BBC were saying on 21 June which is good.
My borough has gone up by 100% but it's still around 6 /100000 so not really a hotspot, but needs keeping an eye on.

Pillar Two is the swab testing for the community at large. This really only started about 8 weeks ago. This makes up 75%+ of both tests and positives now.

Yet we were being told for weeks that transmission in the community is low. I think 75% is pretty high.

Bol87 · 01/07/2020 15:43

Oh goodie. My council is on the new list. Although the bottom of it.. 🥴

HandsOffMyRights · 01/07/2020 15:46

Yes, we have been around the top of the various CV hotlists since this began.

SpongeCake23 · 01/07/2020 15:46

Does anyone know what the increase is in Oldham?

Not in these maps and stats, no. It does feed into the overall picture of infections and growth, and R rates, considered by the Government, alongside lots of other indicators such as triage rates from NHS 111 and hospital admissions rates.

Thank you PatriciaHolm

So, according to sky news this morning, Gloucestershire was number 5 on the list of 'places as risk of localised lockdown'.

Now, its number 145 out of 150 areas in the UK for NUMBER of cases, not percentage, with 0.63 cases per 100,000.

Top class journalism there.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 01/07/2020 16:05

Yes already heard about Bradford. So how does it work of I live in Bradford and work in Leeds? 😂

conveniencestore · 01/07/2020 16:06

@FlamedToACrisp He is an incompetent buffoon/evil git elected in a single-issue election on a populist vote. He and his government have never been in a position to manage this situation.

torydeathdrug · 01/07/2020 16:11

this has more about the various pillar tests

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-data-methodology/covid-19-testing-data-methodology-note

Pillar 1: swab testing in Public Health England (PHE) labs and NHS hospitals for those with a clinical need, and health and care workers
Pillar 2: swab testing for the wider population, as set out in government guidance

Pillar 1 tests are processed & reported in NHS/PHE labs. The pillar 2 is reported by commercial partners & includes the home tests, drive in testing centres & satellite testing centres which can be at NHS Trust locations and care homes - many of the care home positives are picked up in pillar 2.

torydeathdrug · 01/07/2020 16:15

sorry didn't finish my sentence - pillar 2 is described as 'community testing' but all that means is not hospital & not processed in an NHS/PHE lab- when ppl talk about community spread they usually exclude care homes but the pillar 2 'community' testing includes care homes.

Whysomanyexcuses · 01/07/2020 16:28

It would appear that some newspapers continue to post rubbish in their aim to spread fear

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/07/2020 16:36

@PatriciaHolm thanks, that makes sense.

amicissimma · 01/07/2020 16:50

I would think the most likely way we're going to get a handle on this, absent a vaccine, is by publishing all the results, by the first half of postcodes, promptly. At the moment, even when we can find Pillars 1 and 2 they're over a week old.

They would need to be easily available online, ideally also read out on the TV and radio news, at least areas where positives are rising. And where there is a steep rise it would be a good idea if Local Authorities would post that up in town and village centres. Yes, we do need the information handed to us on a plate - that's the way to keep the population informed.

Thus informed, the sensible majority can see for themselves if local infection rates in the community are rising and take practical steps to reduce interaction, such as shopping less frequently, delaying visiting, haircuts, less essential shopping and paying close attention to distancing, avoiding indoor gatherings, etc, until the rate drops again. There's not much point in agitating about idiots who won't do that, unfortunately we always have to live with such people, even when they put us at risk.

The alternative is to keep having lockdowns, which probably won't work very well as people travel and which do more and more damage to the economy.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:02

Aforementioned (by me and others) Bedford to me is a big worry because it is in the East of England - an area not otherwise greatly affected-and so being ignored. The mayor is repeatedly expressing frustration.

Look how that Guardian article barely mentions it, for example.

It's Pillar One figures are huge compared to others!

It's quite a different place to the others on the list. Lots of commuters into London,too...

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:05

And, might add, virtually zero public awareness that Bedford may be in a spot of bother.

Nadine Dorries' constituency is next door.

ListenLinda · 01/07/2020 17:10

@DontGoIntoTheLongGrass i’m the same. The original rules apply if it happens, go to work if you can’t work from home.

MRex · 01/07/2020 17:12

Not true, I know several people who live there have mentioned it to me and said they have been told to be particularly careful. National news probably hasn't covered it much.

Gingernaut · 01/07/2020 17:17

Yup, Wolvo is in the top 50.

Can't say I'm surprised either.

Saturday 4th July will be absolute carnage.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:18

Not been on Look East at all either. No one on my Facebook mentions it. Shops etc. all very busy. Schools continuing to open up more widely. Most pubs and hairdressers getting geared up (some pubs aren't)

The only reason I know is because I look at the local paper online and follow the mayor on Facebook.

I live in Bedford.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:18

Told by whom. out of interest?

LincolnshireYellowBelly · 01/07/2020 17:36

Windsor and Maidenhead have said that it’s not true

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 01/07/2020 17:51
@DontGoIntoTheLongGrass i’m the same. The original rules apply if it happens, go to work if you can’t work from home.
I hope so. I am a key worker so are schools still going to be open for the children I'm wondering?

Itscoldouthere · 01/07/2020 18:00

@Piggywaspushed I’m in a village just outside of Bedford, I’m seeing things on FB and on Look East Bedford has been mentioned as the highest in the East of England several times (we watch the one after 10pm).
I saw a post from the Bedford councillor (on FB) asking question in parliament about numbers and have had FB posts today about Bedford Council and Central Beds not opening playgrounds on July 4th.
I do lurk on Covid posts though as I like to know what’s going on, but most people I speak to where I live don’t seem that informed.
