Leicester facing full lockdown

Ifailed · 28/06/2020 12:25

According to the BBC www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-53206506.
Anyone living there - how do you feel about this? Personally I would feel terribly trapped, almost like I was being punished, like when teacher's used to keep a whole class behind due to the behaviour of a minority.

Is this likely to affect the production and distribution of Walkers crisps?

bumblingbovine49 · 30/06/2020 00:32

What I'm finding difficult to grasp is how they'll prevent people going from say Braunstone to Blaby, if Blaby ends up outside the lockdown zone. 10 mins up the road by car or you can walk/bike it down the great central way bike path

Local lockdowns won't work without enforcement. There is no way that people won't go down the road to get things if they are near the border of the area under restrictions It was different when everyone was subject to the same rules/ guidance ( wherever the hell it was) and nothing was open but expecting people in one area to abide by lockdown just out of the goodness of their heart after 3 months of restrictions when everyone else in the country can go where they like is asking for it to fail. Without policing the borders it won't work and we don't have enough police to do that.

AgeLikeWine · 30/06/2020 00:32
@AgeLikeWine no map has been published according to our local MP's and councils. The daily mail has unsurprisingly not checked its facts, or somehow got hold of something not realised to us people of Leicester who haven't the foggiest idea what to do.
@Chaotic45 OK, thanks. I may have naively assumed that the Fail would do some actual fact checking before publishing an article about something important...

popsydoodle4444 · 30/06/2020 00:48

I'm from one of affected areas in Leicester;throughout the lockdown I've watched a couple of my neighbours take the piss and ignore it;same thing goes for lots of people I know around where I live:they've seen their neighbours also ignoring lockdown.

Am I surprised we're having a increase in cases?,no not at all.

It's down to ignorance and selfishness.

As for our major;he'll refute the government at every turn;he's a massive labour supporter.

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 01:00

@popsydoodle4444 I think it's happened all over the country tbh, but in Leicester it's caused a major issue. Maybe others are brewing elsewhere and hopefully this might make people think twice before being foolsih.

As for our mayor in Leicester I totally agree- he's so busy slagging off the government with every single breath sentence that he utters that I can't trust him either.

The Cummings Effect.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 30/06/2020 01:59

"My hairdresser has just spent weeks re-arranging everyone's appointments and now will have to stay closed."
It took weeks to re-arrange appointments? Bloody hell.!

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/06/2020 03:27

I don’t think what happened during lockdown in Leicester did happen everywhere else

I think in most areas people were SD. Only going out for essentials. Not working. Staying home and keeping safe.

That is why the virus numbers in these areas has gone down where as Leicester and a few other places where people ignored the lockdown the virus numbers remain high.

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 06:30

@Oliversmumsarmy ah I see. I was under the impression that people have flouted the rules everywhere. But maybe I'm wrong- it certainly has been the case in Leicester and villages all around. It's been infuriating to watch.

Sleepyblueocean · 30/06/2020 06:45

"Schools not in the lock down zone, if teachers live in the city they won’t be able to go to school therefore their bubble will have to close."

Those teachers will stay be able to go to work. If you work somewhere outside the lockdown area you can still go there.

Pixxie7 · 30/06/2020 06:47

What concerns me the most is the fact that children have been affected to the extent that they are closings schools which doesn’t bode well for September.

Casino218 · 30/06/2020 06:51

I thought the increase in infection was due to concentrations of outbreaks in food factories amongst workers who are living in crowded conditions and too broke to stop working to socially isolate. If it's due to just random people not bothering to socially distance then wouldn't that be the same story everywhere as we all know people like that?

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 07:06

I live 19 miles from what you would call the outskirts of Leicester in a rural village. Our local schools have closed immediately as of today citing the fact that some teachers live closer to Leicester.

No one knows what is happening.

Early daily prayers happened as usual throughout Leicester this morning according to my friends.

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 07:06

*10 miles

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 07:08

@Casino218 that has not been announced as the reason for the issue. It may be a factor, but there is was more to it than that. If you read this thread you'll see some sensible suggestions from the ground level.

feelingverylazytoday · 30/06/2020 07:27

@HeIenaDove

The Cummings Effect.
Stop blaming Cummings. People have been doing this from the start of lockdown.
CKBJ · 30/06/2020 07:33

Thought the rhetoric was children don’t spread this virus, however there is evidence of children spreading it in Leicester, even though the children aren’t badly affected. Hence closing of schools. Doesn’t bode well for September, opening all schools with no social distancing! Children’s education is obviously very important so schools reopen but non essential retail, pubs, restaurants etc will all need to close. Think the Times toiled with this at the weekend from a Sage document.

TerrapinStation · 30/06/2020 07:33

@HeIenaDove

The Cummings Effect.
If the posts on this thread from people who live in the area are true I don't think anything anyone connected to the government did will have affected the behaviour of sweatshop workers or the devoutly religious.
TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 30/06/2020 07:41

Really frustrated that they still haven't published which areas are affected. I know the announcement was late but they should have just stayed up and got it out.

What are people who work in shops and stuff supposed to do this morning if they work just outside the boundary of the city. Do they go to work or not?

MayFayre · 30/06/2020 07:44

We are probably just outside the affected area, but it would be nice to know.

The handling of this announcement has been farcical.

GoingBackTo505 · 30/06/2020 07:47

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but it seems from reading what the local MPs are saying that Blaby won't be locked down. Blaby has Fosse Park which is the biggest shopping place outside of the city centre. And 10 mins from Wigston, which will be locked down. I don't see how this will work. Along with lots of other things.

Alex50 · 30/06/2020 07:47

Did anyone listen to Matt Hancock this morning?

SimonJT · 30/06/2020 07:47

@Pixxie7

What concerns me the most is the fact that children have been affected to the extent that they are closings schools which doesn’t bode well for September.
Yet we are repeatedly told that children aren’t getting it and aren’t spreading it, the danger is that some people (idiots) will think children don’t pose a risk.
starrynight19 · 30/06/2020 07:48

Did schools in Leicester reopen to more children or just the three year groups does anyone know ?

The same as the national picture, I imagine keyworker provision may have a wider uptake, but the same could be said for many cities, however some schools in Leicester have been shut since early June due to the number of pupils testing positive.
