Leicester facing full lockdown

According to the BBC www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-53206506.
Anyone living there - how do you feel about this? Personally I would feel terribly trapped, almost like I was being punished, like when teacher's used to keep a whole class behind due to the behaviour of a minority.

I feel v sorry for businesses affected by this

Adelais · 29/06/2020 21:25

Is it just Leicester or Leicestershire? We live just outside of Leicester. I’m guessing she won’t be going back to school next week, not gonna lie I’m really dissapointed.

iVampire · 29/06/2020 21:26

So he’s also shutting the schools. Does anyone know about that?

Not surprised - the news reports yesterday said 5 primaries had already closed, so I’m not surprised it’s been extended

Mylifestartstoday · 29/06/2020 21:26

Is it Leicester city, Leicestershire, or certain postcodes? Not very clear

Alex50 · 29/06/2020 21:26

This will make people think they should stick to the rules, your businesses, your life, travel, will be locked down until the infections come down. There will be more cities closed down as there will be peaks round the country.

MarcelineMissouri · 29/06/2020 21:27

If you google schools and Leicester this is what comes up and it talks about approx 10 staff being infected and a couple of children. This is only from 5 days ago. Has anyone seen reports of further issues in schooks?

Mylifestartstoday · 29/06/2020 21:27

@Adelais. That’s what I want to know. Mine have just started back one day a week. Years 10 and year 12, so vital years for exams next year. School closed, but which areas would be a good help

rosie39forever · 29/06/2020 21:28

It looks to be just the city but no clarity on where the boundary is.

PseudoBadger · 29/06/2020 21:28

It's Leicester and the surrounding urban areas, he mentioned some names of towns. Not the whole of Leicestershire. Sounds tricky to administer.

Whattheduck · 29/06/2020 21:28

He said it included Oadby,Birstall and Glenfield (I live in one of those areas) but they are just saying on sky news that not very clear about other areas

Chaotic45 · 29/06/2020 21:30

He definitely said areas to include oadby, wigston and Birstall.

Does anyone know how we can find official guidance. I have friends with shops in local area (and I live 10 miles away). People need to know so that they can inform staff......

Babyroobs · 29/06/2020 21:31

The suburbs he mentioned were Birstall, Glenfield and Oadby.

Me too !
Adelais · 29/06/2020 21:33

I hope they announce where the boundary is soon. I live close to Birstall but not technically in the city.

Chaotic45 · 29/06/2020 21:33

@Babyroobs is correct re areas- IGNORE MY POST BELOW.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 29/06/2020 21:34

Just been putting it all on Facebook and linking to the info in Leicester mercury. No idea how they're going to distribute the news to everyone across the city and county.

2 week review so this may last longer for us than that and kids will all definitely be off now till September unless they're key worker or vulnerable.

Feeling sorry for my friends who are hairdressers, it's been a long wait and they were all looking forward to starting up again.

Won't make a huge difference to me and mine as we've all been working/schooling from home and not meeting with friends anyway so just keep doing what we've been doing.

EdithWeston · 29/06/2020 21:35

From BBC article yesterday, about the schools which had already closed before today's announcement;

"Leicester has seen a number of Covid-19 cases in recent days.
Several schools have been affected. Herrick Primary in Rushey Mead; Moat Community College in Highfields; Whitehall Primary in Rowlatts Hill; and Humberstone Junior and Humberstone Infant academies have all closed for a number of days"

CKBJ · 29/06/2020 21:38

Feel sorry for all the businesses that just opened or were about to. Concerning to hear children have been particularly affected. Any stats?

WelshBunnyBoilerIsStalkingMe · 29/06/2020 21:38

We're in Wales (used to.live in Leicestershire) so still pretty much in lockdown with a 5 mile local travel limit.
I think the police have done alot by car number recognition here.
We went to our local beach no problem at all but lots off people being pulled over on one if the main roads into the beach town and turned around by police. No-one local knows anyone who's been stopped, so i thnks it those out of the area being pulled over.

We had to travel to England for essential travel 2 weeks ago and did get stopped by Welsh police a few miles from the Severn Bridge and they knew we were well out of our "permitted" area when they started chatting to us. We were given the all clear to continue our journey because we had relevant paperwork to confirm essential travel.

Any way the point I'm trying to make is car number plates may be one of the tools Leicester may use.

HeresMe · 29/06/2020 21:39

I was thinking so if bame people are more affected younger are they then more contagious? Are the kids more contagious?
In my town centres local park, when ever I have been to the park there have been very big groups of BAME I'm talking 30 to 40 meeting up pretty much daily, in fact most big groups I have seen are from that background.

In the Southern Asian community they seem to be very close and move amongst family's maybe that is the reason.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/06/2020 21:41

I'd quite like some reassurance on how they're going to police this. We live in a neighbouring county. How are they going to stop people traveling out of the locked down areas coming here to shop, have their haircut or visit pubs? Nothing's been said and, as a military wife and mum, I know it's not as simple as "bring in the army."

Do places like pubs and hairdressers have to take contact details in case of an outbreak? I’m guessing that doesn’t include postcode though.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/06/2020 21:45

We can only hope so ... I just wish I could be confident it'll happen in sufficiently large numbers

whacks493 · 29/06/2020 21:46

Wonder why schools are closing? They are safe places are they not?

Flibbitygibbit · 29/06/2020 21:47

Am near Birstall. Just means that we carry on as we were, no hairdressers etc. Disappointed but I wasn't ever going to go to pubs etc.
