Thread number who knows , because I've lost count. We're adapting to normal 1.0 and lost our status as murderers. The grass is not off limits anymore and we can eat a bag of crisps outside with being accused of "premeditated picnics". Not a pan or pot in sight.

Oh well, there's still the second wave.Grin

Fab, thanks! That would actually work pretty well in her room.

GnomeDePlume · 16/07/2020 23:09

Wow!

GnomeDePlume · 17/07/2020 12:59

Poo!

I have just been told I have to go back into the office 2 days per week from 1 August. I like working from home, I dont want to talk to people about nothing much.

110APiccadilly · 17/07/2020 14:59

Gnome you could always cough ostentatiously if anyone looks like coming near. That should keep people away!

I had exciting news today - Welsh Government say partners can come to baby scans from next week! And I have my 20 week scan next week, so I'm hoping DH can come (waiting for confirmation from the midwife that the hospital aren't doing their own thing and still saying no.)

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 17/07/2020 15:32

Fingers crossed that he can attend Picadilly .

Very emotional day today, lots of tears from the y6s, parents and teachers. I can't quite believe the year is over already.

Dad's bday as well so ... just a weird day. I find it harder than the anniversary of his death.

At least the booze gifts will come in handy later.

DarkHelmet · 17/07/2020 19:16

Come on aw I bet! I have a friend who works in a primary and he says kids have been quite emotional the whole time they've been back. So many feel robbed of what should've been an exciting final year at primary.

Well, I'm house hunting!! I've just had a virtual tour of a bloody lovely place out in a village about 45 minutes from here. I don't want to count my chickens before the hatch or pin my hopes on just the one place, but oh myyy I love it!! I want it!! 😂

110APiccadilly · 17/07/2020 19:55

Health Board have decided they don't have time to implement the guidance on scans by next week, so that's disappointing. I was doing fine with the idea of him not coming before they changed the guidance, wish they hadn't raised my hopes now.

Tootletum · 17/07/2020 20:02

It's all so shit. It's not that I'm some idiot who thinks it's all not real. I just resent the way so many people seem to like to label others as behaving selfishly, whilst justifying all their own actions as reasonable. So I got a massive fucking lecture about a kids party in the garden (3 kids), but they're all good to stay with parents and do whatever they think is right because they're right and I'm wrong. They can just fuck off.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 17/07/2020 20:18

Oh no Picadilly . I get what you mean, getting your hopes up at the possibility now means you're disappointed and sad about it, while you had come to terms with it before.

Dark that sounds exciting. Fingers crossed that you get it if you like it that much.

Tootle I know people that have been slagging everyone and their mother off, including schools and how they're dealing with stuff while having hairdressers, nail technicians etc in their home at the height of the lock down. God forbid some poor fucker went to the shops twice in a day, but they just had to have their hair done! Hmm

DarkHelmet · 17/07/2020 20:55

Oh picadilly that is disappointing!

Tootle sadly some would infantilise us and deem us incapable of making our own rational risk assessments. I sacked all those lot off weeks ago when it became evident they had no issue with my eldest DD working flat out in a supermarket at the height of a pandemic, but woe betide her if she popped over to see me and DD2 for a bit of moral support.

The whole thing has had many firmly hoisting their judgey pants. And they can fuck off.

110APiccadilly · 18/07/2020 08:57

Yeah, I'd got myself firmly into the mindset that scans are medical, and medically healthy baby is all that matters. Then of course let myself get out of it! Still, I'm sure I'll get myself back there. Wish Welsh Government could have talked to health boards before making an announcement about it though - seriously, how hard would that have been?

Tootle I just wish people would treat us like adults. Yes, going to a Covid party or licking handrails is probably a bad idea (although I'm pretty sure licking handrails always was). But having friends/family/kids' friends over is pretty low risk and might be vital for mental health. Just let people decide - and provide comprehensive financial and other support for the shielding if they want to stay shielding - in my opinion for as long as they want it. Some shielding people have been really scared by the government's pronouncements. I think if they still don't want to go back to work in August, the government needs to take financial responsibility for that.

GnomeDePlume · 18/07/2020 11:41

110APiccadilly I understand the particular disappointment of having had you hopes raised and then dashed.

That is exciting DarkHelmet. At what stage in the process do you actually get in to look? Are the virtual tours live or pre-recorded walk throughs?

You would want them to be useful. I could imagine a pre-recorded view would involve too much lingering on artfully arranged lemons and the like.

DarkHelmet · 18/07/2020 13:29

Gnome it was a pre-recorded tour and yes, much lingering on fancy lamp shades and close ups of tiles and taps! What I wanted was for them to show me the view from the windows so I could get an idea of what I'd be looking out at. Maybe a wander round the garden to see what there is to work with. A good virtual tour, but definitely lacking.

I've booked a live virtual tour for Monday!! Super excited that I'll be able to ask her to look out of the windows, go into the gardens, look at the boiler etc. And if I'm still interested after that, I can request the keys for a refundable deposit and take a look asking on my own. Woohoo!!

It's actually happening Smile

Willow2017 · 18/07/2020 16:48

Picadilly
That's crap. How on earth haven't they figured it out by now? They have had months! If they can do MRI's surely they can do baby scans.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 18/07/2020 19:55

Made me think of you Gnome Grin

Grin yes, a perfectly clear message!

GnomeDePlume · 19/07/2020 08:59

I have come to the conclusion that senior managers need us minions back in the office because they need to look busy.

My company is managed in a very aggressive style. WFH is discouraged because that makes cracking the whip over people's heads difficult. Many people have actually worked more effectively without that constant whip cracking.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 19/07/2020 09:03

Gnome there's a brilliant thread here about micromanaging, sometimes to the minute. With one poster(troll) claiming management make rounds to ensure everyone is working as they should and a set limit for toilet time.

I'll see if i can find it for you

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 19/07/2020 09:09

Aibu. ahhh boss quibbling over 1 minute. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3963326-Aibu-ahhh-boss-quibbling-over-1-minute

Here it is

GnomeDePlume · 19/07/2020 09:18

Thank you ComeOn that would be interesting.

I think that senior managers are the ones who have been challenged most by WFH. As a minion most of my problems were to do with getting systems to work properly. Once problems were solved I was able to get on with my work.

WFH has challenged senior managers who need to see their minons working. These are often the same senior managers who dont like their minions to ever have a headphone in and who like to be able to see their minions' screens at all times.

IMO it isnt a lack of trust, it's a lack of confidence and a lack of knowledge of what their minons do all day.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 20/07/2020 09:52

This is what I like about being a TA. For the first 3 years on the job I only saw my mentor in that capacity three times a year for my performance review. The head even less. Just the way I like it.

I saw more of them this year and tbh, can't say it was a positive or supportive experience. Going back to my usual way next year.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 20/07/2020 13:35

It came! Quality isn't great as it's fairly thin but not too bad either, especially at the price.

110APiccadilly · 20/07/2020 18:14

My WFH problems have all been IT ones. In terms of working well with my team etc, it's all gone excellently.

DarkHelmet · 20/07/2020 18:19

Come on ooh that's really pretty! I'll have to show that to DD2 see if she likes it.

I had a virtual date last night. That was .. different! I'm not a huge fan of video calls but once I relaxed a bit I actually quite enjoyed it. He's at the other end of the country so meeting up irl will be a military operation, but I'm not in any rush. He's been messaging me all day so I assume he's still interested even after seeing how cringey I am on video calls 😂

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 20/07/2020 18:22

Oh wow. That sounds really interesting, I'd be cringing sooo much but I'm really awkward on the phone. I actually only talk to mum. If OH rings I answer with "what's wrong?"Grin

More details please. Living vicariously through you.Grin
