Most places that have eased lockdown measures, are seeing an increase in the number of cases. So there is no way around it (at least in the short-term), live a "normal life" and increase the risk for everyone (there are no "personal risk" in a pandemic).

I see a lot of people in mumsnet saying that we suffer too much to save the lives of 80 year olds. While I find this cold assessment horrible on its own, there are so many case of under 60s suffering badly. This is a harrowing picture of 63 year old woman:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jun/25/from-cold-to-coma-to-homecoming-one-womans-100-days-of-coronavirus

Sure, the risk is low. Sure, we deal with risks all the time. But we also try to mitigate risks all the time. We use seat belts, and we look before we cross the road, we use helmets, etc There are many reasons why someone needs to go into work, and those are understandable. But do people "need" to go to raves, beaches, cinemas? do we really need to go into shops and buy a new summer outfit?

Life needs to be different, and we need to find new ways to make our economy tick. Lots of opportunities in new fields. Lets support each other and look for new ways to make the world go around.

On the contrary, if people carry on spreading the virus to others through their actions, some they may kill, what else are they other than selfish fuckers.
If they want to die free, then do so without hurting others.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/06/2020 15:56

I'll be getting on a plane next month if I can. That ok with you OP? No? Oh well, never mind.

hammeringinmyhead · 25/06/2020 15:56

I am quite pissed off with anyone who says "I understand people need to go to work" and "People don't need to go shopping" in the same paragraph. Do you think the people behind the tills are kindly volunteers? A vast number of jobs require physical customers.

hashtagbollocks · 25/06/2020 15:56

Where's the anti dementors' thread, I need some normal people , although glad to see most replies on here are

FlamedToACrisp · 25/06/2020 15:56

@StrawberryPea

I'm really tired of people telling everyone on MN to 'please do this' and 'please do that', as though they are some kind of wise elder preaching to the lesser idiots 🙄

I've got my own brain thanks and I'm perfectly capable of keeping abreast of information available on which I can make my own decisions.

And no, I won't be staying at home.

Completely agree! I'll make my own decisions.

(although I WILL be staying at home!)

My plan is to boost the economy by buying lots of random stuff I don't need but fancy the look of on Ebay!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/06/2020 15:57

In Ireland they're opening everything over the next month but the ads still tell people to try to stay at home. So they seem to be saying we know you need to do things, just be careful

Sounds like same as here, and which is what I;ll be sticking to - I don't want to be going anywhere potentially busy and stay at home most of the time anyway (apart from walks and going to the supermarket for food)
I don't see the point in judging and shouting selfish fuckers stay home! like some on social media are though, that's just going to get people's backs up if they're doing nothing wrong, sticking to the guidelines.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 25/06/2020 15:59

I think people who put their own interests above the health of fellow humans are selfish cunts.

Have you seen Bournemouth beach today?
magicseaweed.com/Bournemouth-Surf-Report/12/

There are some who think teachers should just go back to schools with no safeguards in place that all other occupations have. If that's not selfish cuntery I'm not sure what it.

So much ME ME ME. So little care for anyone else.

It's dispiriting but not surprising from some here.

Jrobhatch29 · 25/06/2020 16:00

@Devlesko you were saying ridiculous things on a thread yesterday too! It is not selfish to take your children to the beach on a hot day. Alot of people do not have gardens. Nor is it selfish to go out and buy things especially for children who have had 3 months growing time! It is not selfish to want some normality back.

worriedandannoyed · 25/06/2020 16:00

I think everyone has been too harsh on the OP. Life has changed for good, we'll never be as carefree as we once were. Shopping will be more online, social distancing will be around for a while. I don't think anyone is living the same life they were before right now are they? We are all capable of weighing up risks that suit our family situation and no-one should criticise another persons decision.

I for one won't be visiting pubs when they open on 4th July but everyone else is welcome to do as they please!

TheGreatWave · 25/06/2020 16:03

I have never been to Bournemouth beach in my whole life. Am I missing out?

Devlesko · 25/06/2020 16:04

I'm waiting for the comments in sept when kids can't go back because people haven't socially distanced 1m let alone 1+ other measures.
It will all be the teachers fault again, nothing to do with their decision at all. Grin

glueandstick · 25/06/2020 16:04

Crack on.

I won’t be. I want to enjoy life. And I want my family and friends to enjoy it too. This ain’t going away any time soon so we need to learn to live with it.

NoMoreFlowers · 25/06/2020 16:04

I agree with you

Devlesko · 25/06/2020 16:04

TheGreatWave

Me neither, it does appear so. Grin

Clutterbugsmum · 25/06/2020 16:05

I don't think anyone's been hard on OP, we all getting sick and tired people telling us what to do, when really it's what THEY don't want to do.

I want us to get back to near normal, people need to do their jobs, we now need to do what we did for the NHS to getting the economy back working. All children need to have a proper education in schools with their friends.

Just because they have opened beaches, non essential shops and pubs and restaurants doesn't mean you have to visit them.

coronafiona · 25/06/2020 16:06

I am being forced to return to work next week. All of us have successfully wfh all the way through with minimal impact on the business. I don't want to go back in, I feel it is far too soon and I can do my role from home. But the boss says we have to go back, so what can I do? So, no I can't stay at home as much as I'd like. It's not always about personal choice OP

NotDoinNuffin · 25/06/2020 16:06

I agree with you OP. Mumsnet has shocked me on this subject TBH. Wouldn't have expected this much selfish twattery. Makes me wonder if these are real people or bots. Hmm

Saz42 · 25/06/2020 16:07

YANBU. Im with you OP. The scenes on the beaches are horrendous. Sure, people have to go to work when they can't wfh, and supermarkets etc. But going out to very crowded places is unnecessary.

countrygirl99 · 25/06/2020 16:07

Of course we will be carefree again. Some things will have permanently changed a bit, a lot of things will return to as they were.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 25/06/2020 16:07

Such a lack of reading comprehension in answer to Lua

She was clearly talking about not doing stuff that isn't essential.. work if you cant wfh, send your kids to school if there are spaces and you think in balance it's better for them .. just try to be mindful that this epidemic is far from over ..

However if the mentality of the gung-ho posters on here is anything like the thousands of moronic knuckle draggers on my local beach yesterday ..shitting in take away boxes and leaving it ... then I am staggered they can even write .

Are people even remotely aware that a viral pandemic does not go away because you are pissed off or bored ?

IrmaFayLear · 25/06/2020 16:08

No, you’re not missing out. Lovely sand, but the town has gone downhill in recent years and is quite mucky.

Domdoeswhathewants - I think it may be you who is the selfish one. People need to work, children need education. It’s the ME ME ME people who are demanding everyone stays in to protect them.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 25/06/2020 16:09

Having seen the pictures of the piles of rubbish left on Bournemouth beach from yesterday you can guess what the attitude is of the people who are going there right now.

CatandtheFiddle · 25/06/2020 16:10

But do people "need" to go to raves, beaches, cinemas? do we really need to go into shops and buy a new summer outfit?

No.

These things will be there next year. And I, for one, would like to survive that long.

Even though, in the eyes of MN ageism (not all MNetters) I'm one of those "old" people who've "had their life" at 60, and I should step aside for the young people.

EmMac7 · 25/06/2020 16:10

So much stupidity. The virus just magicked itself away, huh? Never mind the 1200 new (registered) cases today. We’ll be doing a Texas within 6-8 weeks.

MargotB7 · 25/06/2020 16:11

I'm not hitting any beaches anytime soon or any illegal raves but I will sit in a large beer garden with friends (I may take a fly swatter to twat anyone who comes too close).

People will do their own risk assessments and there is nothing you can do.
