Not sure how I feel about having this download on my phone without my permission. How about you?

It's added with software update to 13.5.1 to iPhones.
It wasn't on my phone, just updated and it's there now.
What you are seeing is an API. There are many APIs on your phone. For example you need an API to turn the flash on. The only difference with this is you know to search for it. It doesn't work unless you install an app to make it work. Try reading this and using a bit of grey matter. Stop repeating fb crap without taking the time to investigate.fullfact.org/health/covid-19-track-and-trace-app-has-not-been-automatically-downloaded-peoples-phones/
Patronising or what! I hope you are not a teacher or parent Grin

It’s not the app, it’s just the capability for the app to work if you download it. We don’t even have an app yet. And it’s switched off on my phone anyway. I’m the first to worry about date privacy but this isn’t something that’s active.

Jux · 20/06/2020 02:11

It's on mine, not switched on though. ATM I hardly leave the house at all, and dd even less than I. I might switch it on just out of curiosity.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 20/06/2020 04:29

Yep . It's on mine too - "Covid-19 Exposure Notifications". It's off so I would have turn on blue tooth (which I never do) but I have found bluetooth switched on numerous times when I haven't touched it. I'm pretty sure it must be able to be switched on remotely.

EnlightenedOwl · 20/06/2020 04:49

On mine too. I turned off location tracking yesterday.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 20/06/2020 05:27

Yep, is on my Huawei P30 too under Google settings. Wouldn't be on a P40 as they don't have Google.

AMostExcellentStick · 20/06/2020 05:46

Honestly the outrage about this across social media comes across as a bit naive. If you have a smartphone then it has the capability to do so much! This just adds another capability (but without an accompanying app does nothing). Do you normally check the content of every update? Do you allow location services, or mic access, for any of your apps? If you're worried about privacy the answer is simple - either learn more about your phone, or ditch it.

My iPhone wants me to update to latest software so assume it will be added with this

So I just read through all the updates listed for the software upgrade and no mention at all about this

Saw this, checked and it's there

On my too! Covid 19 exposure tracking it says!

TryingToBeBold · 20/06/2020 06:23

No disrespect but as soon as you have a modern day smart phone or Alexa or use the internet..

Say goodbye to your privacy.

You can't really get up in arms about this?

This.

And if I may say so... the idea of the British or UK government or anyone else being able to co-ordinate this internationally is hilarious. With leaders who can’t type, can’t get out of cars, can’t pronounce ‘vegan’, yet they’re able to organise this? What are you smoking because I want some!

LovingLen · 20/06/2020 06:26

On the iPhone its just an api so you can use the app if you want, just don't download the app, it's to make it easier for those that want to use the app

DianaT1969 · 20/06/2020 06:27

My Android did a forced update this week. I always resist them for a while (guinea pigs while they iron out bugs). But it went ahead and updated anyway.

MyOtherProfile · 20/06/2020 06:27

Wow this thread is an eye opener. Plenty of people have explained this isn't an app, it's not tracing anything, it's just an APi for when / if people get the currently nonexistent app and yet still some people are talking about the invasion of privacy and the app making their system sluggish.

Never have I wanted to shout more loudly RTFT!

Jayaywhynot · 20/06/2020 06:28

It's on mine too, wow

TryingToBeBold · 20/06/2020 06:30

I'll grab my tinfoil hat for the rest of this thread Grin

I know 'fact checking' has gone out of fashion, but seriously? A cursory glance would have told you it's not a tracking app. Now you've alarmed a bunch of people who seem equally unable to fact check

It's a harmless API enabling tracking Apps IF IF your country has one & if you download it. No different to loads of other 'workings' on your phone. 🙇🏻‍♀️

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 20/06/2020 06:49

werent we told not to download this or upload or whatever?
