Not sure how I feel about having this download on my phone without my permission. How about you?

Yes. It's on mine too

Didkdt · 20/06/2020 00:40

It's on mine but seems to require another app or update to activate it

mumoftwodc · 20/06/2020 00:42

It's on my iPhone too. There were two Apple updates last week so maybe added then?

incognitomum · 20/06/2020 00:46

Yes on my Samsung too.

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/06/2020 00:51

Found it on my phone.

TARSCOUT · 20/06/2020 00:57

What you are seeing is an API. There are many APIs on your phone. For example you need an API to turn the flash on. The only difference with this is you know to search for it. It doesn't work unless you install an app to make it work. Try reading this and using a bit of grey matter. Stop repeating fb crap without taking the time to investigate.fullfact.org/health/covid-19-track-and-trace-app-has-not-been-automatically-downloaded-peoples-phones/

TheMadScientist · 20/06/2020 00:58

On mine - all those with it in their phone do you have the ZOE app? Could it be linked? (No tin hat just an observation that I have that which gives daily reminders and wondering if linked somehow?)

Talisin · 20/06/2020 00:58

The covid tracing API was added to iPhones with the 13.5 update which was released on 20 May. They didn’t hide that that was contained in it, just a case of reading the release notes. If you don’t remember downloading it then you probably have auto updates switched on.

MintyMabel · 20/06/2020 01:00

You do have to download an additional app to activate but I'm just a bit sceptical and bemused that it landed in my phone without my prior knowledge or permission. It's a bit scary if I'm honest and I don't feel like I have control of my privacy.

Of course you don’t, you have a smartphone and you apparently don’t know there are a gazillion ways various apps and system services will track you and your data.

tenlittlecygnets · 20/06/2020 01:01

On mine too. You need to download an app for the tracker to work - click on the tracker, it will tell you!

Exactly. But much better to cry conspiracy.

clpsmum · 20/06/2020 01:04

Not on my iPhone

oliviaskies · 20/06/2020 01:05

Seychelles Whilst I can't say why you're phone was sluggish, it 100% had absolutely nothing to do with this.

oliviaskies · 20/06/2020 01:05

your phone, not you're. Oops

Mine said I just needed to turn blue tooth on for it to activate. Like hell I will. I have turned off all Google permissions etc. I would have been happy to download an app for track and trace but will not be party to it this way.
IndiaMay · 20/06/2020 01:09

Yep on my sony

Mythica · 20/06/2020 01:23

Looks to me as if it's been added to my Google account not my phone.

Meh

But it doesn’t do anything on its own. It is a foundation that a future app can sit on and if you’re in the UK then at the rate we’re going, that will be never. You saw or read about Thursdays press briefing, yes? Where Hancock said they were ditching their original app for one built with Apple-Google tools (and a whole lot of other bollocks). This is the alteration to their operating systems that they have made - worldwide - to allow apps made with those tools run. It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING until the app is installed.

Natsel84 · 20/06/2020 01:32

I have it on my phone . But it's off... wont be downloading anything. Talk about big brother watching you .

LonginesPrime · 20/06/2020 01:34

That's just the infrastructure, OP.

It's not tracking you without your consent.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 20/06/2020 01:41

@FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue I too thought this was some sensationalist circulated crap. I checked out of curiosity though. It's actually there.

flamingochill · 20/06/2020 01:46

There is no need to be scared.

iPhones and Androids sometimes have new features in their updates. Did you worry when Health or Dark Mode was part of an iPhone update?

The CV tracking works in conjunction with the CV app and there isn't one atm in the UK. The tracking setting will only "activate" if you download the app. Otherwise it will be dormant. CV apps can't work without Apple and Android introducing these new settings.

Tianalia · 20/06/2020 01:50

I have it too 😮
