Not sure how I feel about having this download on my phone without my permission. How about you?

@WhatCFeryIsThis - it's worse than just weather on my phone, I have Panda Pop. You'd think putting pandas in a bubble would be against animal cruelty laws. I save as many as I can, but I keep finding more in an thing called "levels".

PinkBuffalo · 21/06/2020 14:20

bubble I was just curious! As it was I since replied to several WhatsApp messages I had so all good right?

tinytemper66 · 21/06/2020 14:31

On mine too samsung A9

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 14:51

@tinytemper66 - On mine too samsung A9

And do you know what it is and why it's on your phone?

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 14:54

@OchonAgusOchonO Not a problem.

Actually, rereading my post, I probably did sound as if I thought it was part of a conspiracy theory, I have a tendency to be a bit sarcastic at times.

Must watch that. I had a very upset response from a poster on one thread a while ago as she completely missed the fact that I was being heavyhandedly ironic.

I was angry about something and the post that had upset her, taken at face value, made me sound like a complete dick Grin

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 14:57

@pigsDOfly - Well, my sarcasm regarding tinfoil hats obviously failed tooGrin

iwilltaketwoplease · 21/06/2020 14:58

Nope, nothing on my iPhone.

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 14:58

@bubbleup My remark about having no time for conspiracy theories was in response to the tone of the OP, which sounded as if she/he thought we were all being cyber stalked in some way because this app appeared on our phones.

I'm fully aware it's not some sort of weird conspiracy.

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 15:01

@OchonAgusOchonO Oh no, that's fine. I've got my tinfoil hat sitting beside me on the floor as I type.

Just to be on the safe side, you know. You never know when you might need one Grin

bert3400 · 21/06/2020 15:04

I have it and I'm not even in the UK ? I'm still on a UK network .. but I'm baffled 😲

WhatCFeryIsThis · 21/06/2020 15:06

@MRex I give up now. Please keep fighting the good fight and saving those pandas. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my wallet back off my phone and into my handbag. I never agreed to transfer it to my phone in the first place!!

SoupDragon · 21/06/2020 15:10

@bert3400

I have it and I'm not even in the UK ? I'm still on a UK network .. but I'm baffled 😲
Why are you baffled? It's there because you have updated your phone and agreed to installing it.
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/06/2020 15:18

Just for the record, I mentioned before I have it and I'm in Australia.
You'll no doubt be pleased to hear that the tinfoil hattists here are also up in arms about it, claiming it to be another way the govt are trying to control us here too. Whilst also claiming that covid isn't real and ain't no one gonna make them believe it is and they're CERTAINLY not going to get tested for it!

rainbowunicorn · 21/06/2020 15:31

@bert3400 why are you baffled?
You do know that this is not a UK only thing. Apple and Google should be the clue there. Two of the biggest bloody companies in the world. This is a bit of software put there so that if you decide to download an APP at some point in the future then it will work.

MRex · 21/06/2020 15:39

@WhatCFeryIsThis - oh no, it's fraud!

BertieBotts · 21/06/2020 16:38

Bert it will be because the google account or apple account linked to your phone has a UK ID. You will probably encounter issues trying to download your local app if/when you get one. You can fix this by adding a second account to the phone which was created in the country you're in.

BertieBotts · 21/06/2020 16:40

For example, I don't have it, because the google ID on my phone is linked to Germany.

BertieBotts · 21/06/2020 16:42

So, yes, it is a UK only thing - the apps in other countries don't use the same API. I'm sure google/apple will roll it out as an update to countries that do want to use it as well as the UK.

BertiesLanding · 21/06/2020 16:46

Not worried at all. Most CV tracking apps are only workable using existing tech - in this case, Apple and/or Google; so both have updated their OSs to plug into any app way may use in future to help track and trace.

The govt's own-made app was too much of a privacy liability because data were going to be stored centrally. Apple and Google's tech doesn't do this: it's simply peer to peer via bluetooth.

Haffdonga · 21/06/2020 16:46

It's come with the latest Google update in preparation. Presumably It wont be operational until the app is set up.

midnightstar66 · 21/06/2020 17:28

Why are people annoyed it’s been added without permission. Do you give permission individually for all the other settings on your phone? Odd!

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 17:30

@BertieBotts - So, yes, it is a UK only thing

No it's not. I'm not in the UK and it was included as part of iOS 13.5 here.

OchonAgusOchonO · 21/06/2020 17:32

@midnightstar66 - Why are people annoyed it’s been added without permission

And the irony being that they did give permission. They either have automatic updates, which they gave permission for, or they updated without reading the detail.

susandelgado · 21/06/2020 17:34

Yes it's on my iPhone . You can't activate it without an app though.

Sazza75 · 21/06/2020 17:35

I’ve just checked and it’s on my phone too.
